January 28, 201214 yr HiMyself and my brother bought 2 identical computers based on the i5 2500k and a GTX 560ti. His is a standard clock, mine is overclocked to 4.3 Ghz, On the same settings he is getting more FPS than me, even though mine is overclocked.!! Can't work this one out, I know I have more scenery and add on planes downloaded, is it due to this ??Thanks
January 28, 201214 yr All hardware drivers exactly the same? All Windows settings exactly the same? All background processes running exactly the same?FSX.cfgs exactly the same? All AI Traffic exactly the same?Scenery does make a difference, but so does all the above. Best that you get your FSX working the best for you and don't worry about what anyone else is getting. FSX is too complex and system dependent to do otherwise. If not, stuff like this will drive you crazy and you'll never end up flying.
January 28, 201214 yr Author Yes Jim I hear where you are coming from but my system is used just purely for fsx and should be getting more FPS than my brothers. FSX.cfgs are the same using Bojote tweaking tool and drivers and windows settings are the same. I have just have a gut feeling that something is holding back my system.I ran a sim using the PMDG 737 at Heathrow add on using virtual cockpit settings : Spring/ May/ 1200 hrs/Fair weather. I have attached my settings, it just does not seem right that I am getting around 25% less FPS even with the overclock to 4.3 Ghz.I don't know if someone would be kind enough with a comparible system to tell me what they are getting on theirs.
January 28, 201214 yr Wow that's low. Somthings definately not right, what driver version are you using? And are you using nVidia Inspector? I notice you don't seem to have any Anti Aliasing.... even with 8X AA I would be getting 20fps in that situation at the very least... and my system isn't that far off from yours.
January 28, 201214 yr If your timings/overclock are not correct/stable they can also make things worse. Have you tried removing your overclock and running at stock timings/settings to see what effect that has? Your AI settings are also quite high and depending on your AI package and the AI package settings itself can be bringing your computer to it knees at Heathrow. Are your Jetways active?Regards,Bob Edited January 28, 201214 yr by sargeski
January 28, 201214 yr Moderator Like Jim said, it's hard to compare unless you test both systems using the same addons or lack of addons. If your running the NGX at an after market Heathrow and your brother is test the sim using the default 737 and stock Heathrow, then of course you will get worse FPS. If you test both systems against each other using the stock 737, the stock Heathrow and all settings being equal then you should probably get better FPS assuming your overclock and temps are ok.Also, a few things to consider to get better FPS in the NGX.1. Use the NGX performance manager to adjust settings and refresh rates to get better performance.2. Put your zoom from .40 to around .79/.81 .The more you zoom out the more objects are going to be drawn and rendered which of course is going to tax your CPU/GPU more. Plus the fact that when you sit in the cockpit of a 737 it doesn't look like that in real life, unless your sitting in a jump seat in the back.3. Set your water one notch lower.4. Unlock your FPS and try running unlimited and you'll probaby get better performance. When I fly simple, non-taxing a/c that dont take a lot of computing power I lock the FPS at around 30, but when flying more complex birds like the NGX I unlock the FPS and achieve FPS in the mid 30's most of the time.5. Try turning off the Aircaft cast shadows on the ground. Turn them on if your making screen shots, but you'll probably pick up some FPS turning them off.6. Look into using after marker AI that will help your FPS. The stock AI FSX is a little more FPS intensive than after market payware or freeware AI, plus the stock AI calls for jetways at airports which will also wreck your performance.I have a lot worse/older rig than you and maintain FPS in the mid 20's on approach into FSDT's KJFK with a lot of traffic when flying the NGX, so if my rig can do it yours most certainly can. You just need to work on your set up a bit. Try using NickN's setup guide over at Simforums in the GEX area to get started. January 28, 201214 yr Author Thanks for the replies,Bob I just set my CPU back to base clock and I am now getting between 6.7-7.5 FPS.Just changed to the default 737 and I only get 10 FPS. No I am not using nvidia inspector, will that make a big difference ? Sorry excuse my ignorance, what exactly is AI ? I have lots of WOAI aircraft downloaded as freeware but I thought that would of been controlled by the setting aircraft setting density. Sorry I do not know how you make jetways active.Paul
January 29, 201214 yr Author Ok just lowered my water settings one notch and put frames on unlimited and now up to 12 FPS at Heathrow, still pretty poor .....

January 29, 201214 yr TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024toTEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096Also, try:[bufferPools]PoolSize=8388608RejectThreshold=131072UsePools=1
January 29, 201214 yr Also don't limit the frames per second, set it to unlimited and use an external limiter like nVidia Inspector's. That will make a big difference but it's not the biggest problem here... something else can't be right. Hope you find it.(traffic settings are quite high too)
