January 30, 201214 yr I was leaving for a couple hours, so I loaded a flight with the NGX and turned on "Pause at Top of Descent". However, when I returned, I checked my computer only to find that the aircraft was still at cruising altitude several hundred miles past my destination. Was the problem that the target altitude wasn't reset? Though that doesn't seem to have anything to do with pausing... -Bram Osterhout
January 30, 201214 yr Interesting. I use that feature too as it will never fail to have my wife or 5 year old distract me at some point during cruise ( yes, I have poor FD security procedures in our home). Its always worked for with the MCP ALT reset or not. Maybe try turning the feature off then back on? Also check the ini file to see if its saved or not. Ryan Syferd (KSEA)
January 31, 201214 yr Author Now that I think about it, I didn't press any sort of save button. Perhaps it was just a stupid mistake on my part. Haha -Bram Osterhout
January 31, 201214 yr Commercial Member It was probably an issue where in setting up the flight, you never entered the arrival, so the aircraft never calculated a T/D. No calculated T/D, no T/D to pause at. When you're setting up the flight, enter the route, then come back in and fill in the SID/STAR (but not the approach - that's assigned in the descent). Without the STAR, it won't calc a spot to descend. Kyle Rodgers
January 31, 201214 yr On a related note... I wish you could adjust how far from descent the pause will take place. It would be nice to have more time. Just being picky though. Regards,Bob Quick
January 31, 201214 yr Yep 10NM are too short for adjustments I wish it was 25NM Alaa A. RiadJust love to fly............... W11 64-bit, MSFS2020, Intel Core i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20 Ghz 6 Cores, 2 TR HD, 16.0 GB DDR4 RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6 MB GDDR5
January 31, 201214 yr Commercial Member How is it too short? You're already on pause...Why not do your business on pause and then unpause when you're ready? Kyle Rodgers
January 31, 201214 yr How is it too short? You're already on pause...Why not do your business on pause and then unpause when you're ready?I don't allow changes or adjustments while on pause. A long standing rule that is not open for discussion or change. Regards,Bob Quick
January 31, 201214 yr Commercial Member I don't allow changes or adjustments while on pause. A long standing rule that is not open for discussion or change. Then that's your own fault. I partially sorry for being blunt, but your own procedures are getting in your own way.If you care that much about the realism of the situation, you wouldn't be using the feature to begin with, so you're already "cheating." Why not cheat and be smart about it by setting things up properly on pause? You would have been doing it just prior to where it paused anyway.I'm all for fitting the sim around your time (we have other lives, after all), but to put yourself on the back end of the curve because you're too stubborn to loosen the reins a little is a bit foolish. You're welcome to keep your practice that you assert isn't up for discussion, just realize you're going to be putting yourself at a disadvantage because of it. Kyle Rodgers
February 5, 201214 yr Pause at top of descent works very well when I start a new flight at the same place and with the same aircraft than my previous flight if I load a panel before starting.Seems pause at top of descent does not work when I start a new flight at the same place and with the same aircraft than my previous flight and keep the previous panel (saved flight). February 6, 201214 yr How is 10nm possibly too short of a distance? Set the MCP to initial descent altitude .... done ? Should take about 3 seconds. Johan Pettersen
February 6, 201214 yr I use the 'Pause at TOD' option for every flight. I may be wrong but I think I had to set this option 'on' for each NGX model...600, 700 etc in the CDU.
