FSX does it work

Andy, it all depends what you want in FSX and how you use it. From previous posts, sounds like you run FS9 with alot of default textures etc?I may move to FSX one day, but for now, FS9 runs smooth as glass for what I use it for (IFR Jetz sim). Well I noticed an unbelievable difference in FPS after doing the Tweak guide. I uploaded my fsx.cfg to that tweak analsys. Wow it is magic! I am getting 20-30FPS with the NGX.Now I have to try it with traffic.Daniel

There are some excellent ideas and pointers coming out of this thread. Thanks Guys and well done Andy for probably reflecting what many of us are thinking with Flight not really being cooked up to what we all hoped. I even went out and bought FSX Gold in a pique of protest of Flight not really being what was promised on the tin, but also thinking that perhaps the time has come to move on. Some of the entries in the Screen Shot Forum shows what FSX is capable of (stunning) and yet is FS9 really that far behind? Look at Edroit (Ed's) captions in the Screen Shot forum. Additionally, look at some of the new scenery releases for FS9. For what is worth Andy, whilst (like you) battling off the winter blues and waiting the daffodils to flower, I have come to the conclusion that I am going wait another year see if anything develops with MS Flight. Hopefully, within that time there may be another generation of video cards and/or processors that will make FSX run as smoothly as FS9 does for me.

Interesting looking through all those different setups and there experiences running FSX.Interesting because all those newer machines don't sound as though they are getting a much better experience than I did with my old single p4 setup (present machine still) Having read through a lot of these posts in response to my original query I have decided I will not be scrapping my old PC yet. FSX will have to slumber on in my hard drive for the time being.Andy

Just doing the Tweaks can do more for you than a new machine!I am getting awesome FPS in FSX!But having Windows 7 64 bit might have something to do with it......Daniel

Just out of interest Daniel, when you are saying 'I am getting awesome FPS in FSX' what are your AI traffic settings ?

I just installed WOAI on my set up. Traffic makes no difference. But I will try out some heavier stuff.I was at EGLL with the Huey X, UK2000extreme and VFR scenery with traffic, getting around 20-45 FPS. Sometimes dropped to 12 but not much. That was looking at airport from above. If you are taxiing I am sure it wouldn't be so bad.Daniel

Hello AndyFor every one of those posts crying about low fps there are many more who are getting great performance from FSXJust maybe, those folk having issues have no idea how to tune their hardware or the Sim.There is a large difference between an FS9 install set up by someone who knows what they are doing and an FS9 install without any optimisation applied, FSX is no different in this regard.FSX at this point has reached maturity and is now running as well on multicore machines as FS9 does.Do not forget that FSX leverages all four cores compared to the situation with FS9 limited to one core only. The addons available now such as the NGX and J41 from PMDG and the Realair Duke are a huge step forward as is the ability to display much higher res photo textures, the UK with GenX scenery and the UK2000 stuff is stunning. You have much to look forward to in the future should you decide to build a new machine.IMHO Flight! may turn out even better and I say that as a Beta tester who was initially very sceptical of the new platform. How Flight! turns out will be totally in the hands of those folk who buy the downloaded addons, MS will take the platform in the direction that yields the most profit for them.If the community gets behind the platform it has a chance to influence the direction it takes, stay away and we may all miss out on what could have been a great Sim platform for us.

Very interesting views on FLIGHT.Nice to see a willingness to at least give it a chance .I am actually quite interested now to see what this new sim may bring having initially been carried away on the tide of disappointment and gloom expressed by so many sim fans(Cant take any more of that ) .AndyPS people seem to be rather angry at the prospect of having to pay for extra 'bits' of FLIGHT after initial free download , on the other hand I suppose we would have had to pay 60 -100quid/dollars anyway as per all other 'NORMAL' sim releases (cant remember how much FSX was initially ) if they weren't trying this new method of distributing it,that amount may buy a nice Europe or Africa scenery or addon aircraft in FLIGHT .If there good quality then i don't see the problem. Just because there MSoft produced doesn't mean they will be rubbish.(It was after all that same Msoft that bought us the flight simulation hobby in the first place) Ying%20Yang.gif :Cuppa:ppsI do like a nicely packaged product though and will miss the excited rush back from the shop/store to open it up.
