February 1, 201214 yr I routinely use the "real weather" feature but since getting the PMDG aircraft I wonder if it is better to register my FSUICP or is there a better weather product that will intergrate FSX and the PMDG aircraft. Thanks Phill Dant
February 1, 201214 yr Registering FSUIPC4 is a good idea (always, really), in this case because of weather smoothing features needed for the PMDG B-744 autopilot to work.Another good idea is to get AS2012 as the weather engine (here).Cheers,- jahman.
February 2, 201214 yr Author Thanks for the info, regarding active sky. Is this real time weather or is it something you have setup before flying? Phill Dant
February 2, 201214 yr Thanks for the info, regarding active sky. Is this real time weather or is it something you have setup before flying? You load it and it automatically injects real, live weather via METAR data (among other sources). It also does much, much more than that! At time of writing it is the most well rounded weather program, albeit expensive. There's a bit of setting up for initial use, but that's easily looked up here in the Hi-Fi forums. I can also help. February 2, 201214 yr Any good guides on setting it up properly ?WayneI'll try to find it for you. I'm using what came with AS2012 except my wake turbulence is toned down to 10%.Specific fsx.cfg modifications I use for the NGX:DisableTurbulence=1Also, you can leave that at 0 and instead use:TurbulenceScale=0.025000 ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

February 2, 201214 yr Hi Zach, I see nothing wrong with what Mario posted, although posting twice was a bit much, but it is still his opinion. I too like REX and await what the new essential software will bring to the table.
February 2, 201214 yr Author So with all of the comments it seems to boil down to REX and AS2012. There is no concensus but rather two seperate camps of support. I guess it may come down to my three main desires.1. Set it and forget it... for example I want to start in Denver with current weather and land in Los Angeles with the current weather there. REX - AS or both?2. Cost.. REX $40 AS $70? based on conversion rates. Not a deal breaker3. Ease of use.. between loading flight planning setting up the aircraft and now add weather configuring a two hour flight can quickly turn into 3.Thanks for a stimulating post! Phill Dant
February 2, 201214 yr I have both. I use rex for textures and ASE for the weather engine, which is far superior and more stable. REX Essentials might change this calculus.Regards,George

That is very nice.3 Both. The fact is that weather is better simulated at time of writing by ASE and AS2012. Turbulence feels right and there are numerous options to tailor weather depiction to your needs. Weather is always more accurate at airports without reporting stations, and wind changes are much smoother (direct wind control is to thank, here). That could change with REX Essentials. We'll have to wait and see!Hi Zach, I see nothing wrong with what Mario posted, although posting twice was a bit much, but it is still his opinion. I too like REX and await what the new essential software will bring to the table.Sorry Bill. I didn't mean to come across as callous. I just want to know more about why REX is better in his opinion. The better engine is Active Sky at this time, and saying something vague and uneducated like "Rex is best" doesn't offer much to the OP, does it?I have both. I use rex for textures and ASE for the weather engine, which is far superior and more stable. REX Essentials might change this calculus.Regards,GeorgeSince AS2012, I've completely retired REX. But yes, that is the way to go if using ASEvolution. February 2, 201214 yr Moderator Hi Phill,I'm a bit biased as I'm a long time HiFi beta tester, and while I also have REX, its current weather engine doesn't come anywhere close to AS2012. We really won't know how it will compare to REX Essentials until it's released.Having said that I believe AS2012 accomplishes everything you're looking for from "set it to forget it" to tailor everything you want, including graphics, clouds, turbulence, low/high level visibility and much much more. I for one trust in the 10 years (if memory serves me correctly) that HiFi's been in the weather engine business.Hope this helps,Pete I9-13900K, RTX 4090, DR5-6000MHZ, CORSAIR ICUE H150I ELITE, ASUS PRIME Z790-P, THERMALTAKE TOUGHPOWER GF3 1350W, WIN 11
