February 14, 201214 yr Author http://translate.goo...-en-gud&act=urlAccording to an anonomus source to Sweclockers the 3770K can reach 5Ghz on air fairly easy. Most people get the 2600K up to around 4.6Ghz on air easily so if thats true we would see around 10% improvement from clockspeed alone from Ivy + IPC improvements (that I suspect will be minor). But the 3770K actualy replaces the 2700K pricewise and I belive most people get that one closer to 5Ghz so maybe the improved overclockability wont be too notable with Ivy.That is going to 5GHZ on AIR? - remember the TDP is 77W. That is a 23% drop in thermal output from the SB chips.Wow, technology these days moves so quickly it never fails to fascinate me. Edited February 14, 201214 yr by benorg
February 14, 201214 yr Yes 5Ghz on air. Thats true... I suppose 5Ghz on the 2700K is not on air. It is nice to see that the technology improves even thou AMD does not offer much competition here. The reduced thrermal output is really appealing. My i7 860 starts to feel old. Will i be able to restrain myself from upgrading until Haswell...

Will i be able to restrain myself from upgrading until Haswell...Haswell is a year or two away. I actually think that it will be the lasrgest jump yet in a while. I hope that they add lots of instructions for the new Haswell chips. But that does make some sense to wait for Haswell. The performance from an 860 to a Haswell will likely be tripled.
February 15, 201214 yr The GTX680 also features a 512Bit memory interface.(Never been done before by Nvidia!)The very wide memory interface will give us more FPS due to FSX populating them. Not so! My GTX 280 has a 512Bit memory interface. I can tell you with quite dated hardware I DO have quite excellent performance (particularly smoothness, though lacking in raw frame rate as predicted), and I attribute some to the 512Bit interface, plus low latencies (for it's time). I'm w/ you on this new high end release from nV. It appears my next box may indeed be ivy bridge i7 3770k processor and a nvidia gtx 680! I think I'll be duly impressed as long as the IB o'clocks well. February 15, 201214 yr Author Only if you stop coming here to inhale what Ben is smoking! Oh hush Stephen! I just like people to make sensible purchases! :Nerd:
February 15, 201214 yr Only if you stop coming here to inhale what Ben is smoking! Knowing myself I'll soon fall for the temptation of a 3770K. Ben is certainly doing his best to help=). And once I'm on a s1155 board I might just get hold of a 2600K and a 2500K to study the impacts of IPC and cache =). What would we do without hardware

February 16, 201214 yr Think I am definitely gonna skip IB; happy with FSX performance; I don't use autogen, so I doubt wether kepler will help with the pci 3.0; when fsx is bogged down in my set-up its the stuff being written off the cpu that is limited still by the CPU, not the grpahics card. But I have flyable frames and smoothness in most all circumstance now that I am going to sit tight and just do some flying and enjoy:) Simon
February 16, 201214 yr Intel to postpone mass shipments of Ivy Bridge processorsbummer :(that's terrible news, Dazz! The initial shipment will probably all go to Apple. February 16, 201214 yr Author Intel to postpone mass shipments of Ivy Bridge processorsbummer Daw... I was hoping for much sooner.
February 16, 201214 yr Yeah, it sucks some major &@($*.Guess this probably means that Haswell will be delayed too? who knowsI was considering selling my 2600K and fund the upgrade to a 3570K even without PCIe 3.0. Oh well, More time to mull it all over then

Oh well, More time to mull it all over thenHere is another ARTICLE."The delay of the "Ivy Bridge" processor is being reported by DigiTimes, a publication that typically voices the concerns of device makers. Those concerns are just as often opinion as they are fact."I was likely going to upgrade to a new chip just for the sake of early adoption. :Big Grin:Although, I am a regretting my purchase of the P67 chipset now...
