Building New PC - Research Phase

Recommended Posts

I know I'm being a jerk (lately?) but IB is not the 3rd generation Intel core chips. It's just a tick, not a new generation

I don't want to wait for IB anyway, i can easily upgrade this configuration later.

Thanks

The memory standard for that board:

DDR3 2200(O.C.) / 2133(O.C.) / 1866(O.C.) / 1600 / 1333 / 1066

Thanks a lot for that

After a reasonably long wait for the Ivy Bridge CPU's to come out, ive finally come out with this. ANy suggestions on what needs improving? Could we keep it under £900 though. Just to let you know, I already have a moniter:

hold steady,

When you get a decent cpu cooler [dark rock pro is my suggestion], you need LOW PROFILE RAM, or it wont fit ;).

The cpu cooler isn't great, try and go for the above

I would go with the sandybridge over the IVY, I bought mine 2weeks ago. IVY bridge needs more volts and doesn't overclock as well, which FSX really benefits from.

Also, ASUS boards are better than gigabyte in my opinion, I would go with the P8Z77.

560 Is ok, try and squeeze to a 670.

Are you really asking us our opinion on which DVD drive you should have? And I suppose the numerous treads suggesting that there is no point in getting an i7 obviously passed you by.

Paul,

Im a complete rookie when it comes to constructing a computer so I need all the help I can get. As for the I7 threads, you are completely right and I apologise.

Alex,

What do you mean by Low profile ram??

I agree with you Dazz,

I'm upgrading my machine in the next 2-4 weeks.

I'll be using an I5 Ivy and the fastest Ram I can get my hands on.

Already got a 570 GPU so I'll keep that, throw in a 120gb SSD for FSX and a H100 Corsair cooler.

Gotta say though my Original I7 920 oc @ 4ghz has done me proud the last 2 years.

That was the CPU that really set FSX alight

Thanks for your help Dazz. Is it not worth getting 12GB or 16GB?
