Question regarding Bufferpools = 0

Featured Replies

BP=0 works great on my ancient GTX260 card. With pools im getting stuttering, without pools its very smooth. I'm getting a tiny bit of artifacts every now and then, but nothing too annoying, certainly not as annoying as constant stuttering

If you get "artifacting", especially while panning, blame it on this tweak. Heavy clouds plus heavy autogen makes this tweak unstable on most hardware.

You meant GTX570, yes?I just started experimenting with this setting again myself. I set a fairly low frame rate lock (22 fps) in nvidiainspector, and pushed my GTX580 all the way up to 1000 MHz core clock, and it really smoothed things out, especially with high levels of UT2 traffic. 22 fps with very little variance is really quite smooth...better I think than 30 fps with drops to the low 20s under load. I had tried using BP=0 some time back, but with less than spiffy results...I suspect that being able to throttle the frame rate right in the driver really helps to avoid overrunning the card.
Bob, yes 570. thx for the correction. My 570 is oc'd from the factory. I don't recall the clocks but it is a screamin mama. I think I will try the driver level frame limiter and see what I get. I currently am locked in-game @35 which with ORBX and maxed everything it hangs around 25 or so which is fine with me. Always looking for improvement though.Bob

If your hardware can handle it then use this tweak. Don't even bother with the RT or pool size stuff. From what I remember, by old GTX 260 core 216 ran it fine.

Hi everyone. @tomWhich would be the right setting for my card? I remember struggling a lot last week with stability until i changed the rt from the 96k to the 512k and there. It was so much better. So my question again, having a 2gb card 800mhz core 1250mhz memory which would be best based kn your knowledge? I have tried no pools ps=0 or 200000000/400000000 and even 600000000(600mb). But i don't see anything different. Is there something Im looking for? The only stutters i get are when you zoom the view to the left on the terrain going past me. If anyone else can help id appreciate it. Thank you Sent from my SGH-I727R using Tapatalk

It really depends to be honest. I have a heavily clocked GTX 560 Ti, but I still don't use UsePools=0 as it causes spikes in the densest autogen areas. If you don't understand what it does or don't know what you're looking for it's best to leave well alone in my opinion. It can take over your life! You should see an instant increase in frame rates if you put in UsePools=0. Further testing will reveal if it is actually stable (if it's not you will see corruption in textures and spiking of the autogen objects). If you do get instability with UsePools=0, then try RejectThreshold=131072. If you still see instability, increase it in stages as you have done. If you're happy with it how it is, I'd be inclined to leave it! You can fiddle too much, and cause a relatively fast and stable set up to a stuttering, spiking mess in a matter of minutes, and then it'll take you months to get it back how it was before! You could manually set a poolsize, but to be brutally honest I could never be bothered to do that!

I'm getting very periodical spikes in GTX570 GPU usage with PB=0, accompanied by GPU clock rate decrease to 0%. Throttling, eh? Otherwise the sim runs really smoothly without visual artifacts at about 30% GPU load. Autogen setting is at normal. Are there any tricks to this kind of situation?

Sometimes setting water to 2.x High can ease the spikes. I really don't know why, but it does work!Quite often graphics spikes occur when there's a spike in frame rate. Are your frame rates locked?Other than that, reduce autogen or try a RejectThreshold rather than UsePools=0.

Thank you. Thats how my sim was. Crazy stutters and vertical lines everywhere. I could never get past 25fps whenever it was at the peak. And not to mention the ngx, that thing swallowed my system and made it crawl to its knees. Then i changed rt and there it was. Now i get 20s-30s and sometimes 40fps and much better experience overall. Most of my sliders are to the right but not all of it is maxed. Is it normal for the frames to oscillate so much like that? Even if i use the fps limiter it doesnt stay still so i might just leave it unlimited since itll never go beyond 60. I will pm u a copy of my cfg if you dont mind looking at it. Thanks again

I'm running at 2xH, FSX frame setting @ Unlimited, externally limited @ 30.Sim has been running onRejectThreshold=131072PoolSize=8388608parameters previously, as I've been reasonably happy with performance. Now that you've lured me to tweaking again, BP=0 looks like very tempting.

How did you come up with that poolsize?Sent from my SGH-I727R using Tapatalk
