February 23, 201214 yr Right, Well I'm saving up for a new computer but I'm not sure which one to get. I don't want to get the mother of all computers that will set me back £2000. All I want is something that will run FSX + NGX and a few scenery add-ons and possibly REX, along with anti-aliasing. I've found this one that is at a reasonable price of £664.93. What do you think of the specs and will it run what I have listed: Also, here's the link to it if anyone wants to fool around with some of the specs to see if they could improve what I've listed: click here- Case: Antec 300 Gaming Case (default choice, options available)- Power Supply: OCZ ZS 650w PSU- CPU: AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4100 3.60GHz Processor- Motherboard: AMD 760G Chipset (AM3+) Motherboard- RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit- Hard Drives: 1TB HDD- Graphics Card: OcUK GeForce GTX 550Ti 1024MB GDDR5- Sound: 7.1 Channel Sound (On-Board)- Optical Drive: OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black)- Cooling: x2 White LED 120mm Fans- OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-BitThere's also this option which is a lot better but as i said, I only wan't something that will run them. I don't want to go wasting few hundred pounds on something I don't need so I don't want a huge computer if I don't need it. February 23, 201214 yr Go for the i5 machine I cant imagine it being that much more than the first one. you can't beat Overclockers for build and support. You will be happier in the long run.Wycliffe
February 23, 201214 yr Yep, get the sandy bridge system & you'll be good as gold. Also when you get it be sure to click "more options" during the fsx install & put it somewhere besides the default location. Anywhere outside of c:program files(x86) will be fine. February 23, 201214 yr Why? (Did I do something wrong? :( )C:program files(x86) has the infamous permission restrictions that screws so badly with programs that depend on editing files in that location (ie... Virtually any addon that makes a change to fsx or an aircraft.cfg)Most of the problems can be avoided by running fsx, installers & addons in general as admin, but it's much easier to simply install fsx in c:fsx or a 2nd hard drive & be done with it.Edit: I'm not saying you should uninstall fsx & all your addons right this second to fix it, but it's definitely worthwhile to remember this & if, in the future, you choose to reinstall fsx it's better to put it somewhere else. February 23, 201214 yr Author Thanks for the help guys. MrKen I will definetly follow that advise I have had that problem as well a while back. Only problem is getting the money for that specific case. If you could, could you have a look and see what case would be best for the specs of the computer as I really don't know much about the cases. I'm not really bothered by cases but apparently there important So could someone get a case that is relatively cheap but will do the job. I'm not bothered by what it looks like. February 23, 201214 yr Any case that will hold an atx motherboard & offers plenty of airflow will be fine. Kenneth Weir My Saitek yoke mod i7 2600k @ 4.7 8GB Gskill CAS7 2x GTX580 SLI Surround + GT520 Accessory Win7x64

February 24, 201214 yr Ahhh, thank you. I principally run FSX as Admin, so it should not make a big difference for me.With Vista, Microsoft introduced a safety feature to seperate program files from program data. That way the OS could monitor the program files and ensure that nothing (like a virus) was messing with them. FSX was written before Vista existed so it writes to files in its default location and this upsets the OS. As Admin, you are allowed to write those files, but the OS is still doing the work of checking what files are being modified and by who. To avoid the system having to do all that extra work, next time you re-install FSX, simply chose another directory. Paul Smith.
February 24, 201214 yr Commercial Member Don't get AMD - they're way behind Intel now. Up the GPU to a GTX560 Ti if they have that option too - the 550's a significantly inferior card. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com

Why did i get a 580? Well it isn't quite as good as a 580 and i had been saving for it for a while. Bottom line: 560Ti performance/$ = Excellent. Rick Hobbs
