It's Unbelievable That Anyone Would Bash This FREE Program!

Like the guy that opened this thread I have a long flight sim history dating back to the first release. Still trying to understand what that really meant but felt the need to state it. Flight is nicely done program and possibly a start for improved desktop flight simulation. Waiting to see how quickly Microsoft releases scenery for the rest of the world, how the add on market shapes up and what issues with performance and reliability are discovered. I am skeptical that it will meet the needs of those flying for virtual airlines, with complex add on aircraft and connections to virtual ATC. I am optimistic that it will evolve into a decent flying simulation capable of challenging those wanting rewards or points for performing well in a gaming environment. Until that happens my Flight Sim 2004 and FSX have served well for several years each and will continue to do so. Also X-Plane is looking better with the passing of time and today would be a good day for resuming flights with it.

I'm just considering FLIGHT as being given apple tree seeds when we asked for lovely red apples. I'm interested to see the price of the DLC's but i'm itching to get home in just under an hour and try this out for a couple of hours.Either way, i'm probably gonna just LOVE flying the base game.
I wholeheartedly agree, and am very surprised that so many people who are long term flight simmers don't see it this way. How long did it take to get to FSX? Oh well....As far as DLC, put me in the tiny minority, but I think the prices are VERY reasonable, but that's just me. Picked up the Hawaiian pack as well.

It's the new concept in online gaming. Give the game to you for free then charge for extra content. I play the World of Tanks games and it is the same thing. I like the concept because I can spend nothing and play the game/sim or spend real dollars and get more content. Not many games/sim you get to try out the real thing before putting down your dollars.

In my house, FSX are for the older serious simmers. And MS flight are for the kids. But the kids dont hang on to something for long, and therefore the money for MS will be minor.Nah, if they want to make real money, they need a FSXI, you got a huge group of simmers villing to pay.Just take a look at all the good payware companies.

...but what they do give you is free, with no strings attached (Other then having to register with Windows Live). There is no time limit to the game like the FSX demo had, so there is nothing stopping you from using the product as is if you choose not buy anything. The choice to do so is there if you want, but it's not a condition to use the base platform, hence the base program is free.
I agree with you, but only Free=Great for someone who doesnt have FS already, otherwise as already said it is a very limited demo like many other programs, you can use but have limited power to save or use other functions as in this case...planes, scenery etc.

Re-read your subject line. You disparagingly labeled some people's posts "unbelievable bashing". You mischaracterized those posts as complaining about a free program, rather than as complaining about two years of misleading, bait-and-switch advertising (no one would object to a free, no-distant-navigation sim if it'd been acknowledged as such to begin with). Then you falsely denied challenging anyone, and went on to disparage the post that pointed out that you'd done so ("(Shakes head in disbelief)" is a disparaging reply).
And there sir is exactly what I meant. The complaining isn't due to Flight being a bad program. The complaining is coming from those that cannot let go of the fact that Flight is not what they expected.Todd

No, again you misrepresent. "Not what they were explicitly told by MS" is not the same as "not what they expected". And expressing a brief criticism is not the same as being "unable to let go".
What? When did I challenge anybody's thoughts?(Shakes head in disbelief)Todd
My point is if I made a thread and titled it "It's unbelievable anyone would like this FREE program" it wouldn't last long.

100% correct
