It's Unbelievable That Anyone Would Bash This FREE Program!

Featured Replies

First let me state that I have had every version of the Flight Simulator franchise going back to 1982. I consider myself a hardcore flight simmer. Microsoft has given us a free program that has the entire island of Hawaii that you can fly around AND explore on foot and people are complaining? I just don't get it! I don't get it at all. It's not FSX and it should not be compared to it. Microsoft never said it was the successor to FSX therefore no one was shafted. You either like it or you don't. I respect everone's opinions but the negative/bashing posts are uncalled for and are truly sickening. To the haters, I suggest you play through the force fed opening tutorial and then try the Free Flight mode. Take off in the Icon or the Stearman and fly off somewhere. Listen to the changing wind noise when you yaw the plane or lower the landing gear. Then go find a waterfall, a town, a road, a interesting building or ship, a hill, or a beach and then land your plane. Listen to the squealing brakes when you try to stop hard. Then get out and walk around your plane taking notice of the details. Then keep walking and explore the area further. There is no limitation on how far you can walk so walk around the whole island if you like. (Hold down the SHIFT key to run) Maybe it will still bore some of you after that. But keep an open mind as to what it is and more importantly what it is not.Flight is different and I like it. When I want to do some hardcore flight simming, FSX and FS9 are still here for me to use. Nobody has taken them away. So I want to say this again. MICROSOFT FLIGHT IS FREE! No one lost a penny purchasing it. It was a gift and that alone warrants a simple statement from me.Thank you Microsoft for the gift!Todd

For abit of a wow factor, set the time of day to dawn or dusk and look at the way the sunlight reflects on the canopies, with scratches and all and also how the landing lights interact with objects on the ground.Fly the Icon A5 and open the canopy during the flight using the O key and hear and notice how the nose starts dropping because you have just set off a giant airbrake, great stuff. Oh and its free :)

It's not a gift mate, it's a demo. I also think it's a little unfair if you're allowed to post a thread in such a provokative way, challenging what people should think, just because you come from the pro flight camp. Will be interesting to see what happens here.

What? When did I challenge anybody's thoughts?(Shakes head in disbelief)Todd

HiIf you like it cool play with it thats it who cares if you are a hardcore sim guy or a newbie the only thing is important do you like it thats it.By the way just because its free its doesnt mean anything WORLD OF AIRPLANES going to be free as well and you can fly and fight over nice terrain, maybe with better FDE thats it.Im enjoying FS9, FSX, LOCkON, IL2 and World OF tanks, and i will be part of World of Airplanes too, Ive tried Flight and its nice, if i want a nice vfr i prefer fsx orbx and nice bush plane, if i want arileners i go with Fs9, i f want to fight there are il2 lockon, so for me FLIGHT is little bit off but its still nice and i can understand those who just want to jum in a plane and make a nice hop,

Hm... it's not really free.. it's just one of the ways to sell stuff. It's basically a demo. People who will buy everything will pay much much more in the end than the price of one full game. I'm not really fond of gifts like that.

People have a right to dislike Flight. Its not everything for everyone. Its just HOW they go about doing it seems to be the problem.

I'm just considering FLIGHT as being given apple tree seeds when we asked for lovely red apples. I'm interested to see the price of the DLC's but i'm itching to get home in just under an hour and try this out for a couple of hours.Either way, i'm probably gonna just LOVE flying the base game.

Only just got back in to flight simming and Avsim after a year or so - pardon me whilst I find my feet again!

Exactly my point!

You're telling me that if a restaurant gave you a free pizza and then handed you a menu and you had the choice to come back and try something else in the future you wouldn't be grateful for the initial free pizza? I mean you're not obligated to buy anything yet you're not appreciative of the initial gift? And if others choose to return to that restaurant and spend lots of money that affects you how?You call it a demo if you like but regardless it was free. My true point is, if you don't like Flight then move on! You lost nothing! Go fire up FSX, FS9, or X-Plane and be done with Flight. But what's the point of slamming a free program (or demo if you like)? Some of you seem to be misunderstanding my post. I'm not telling anyone to like Flight. I'm not a Microsoft ######! I simply said that I don't understand all of the Flight haters who haven't even tried the program and are bashing it because it isn't the program THEY wanted it to be. There are also some who tried the opening tutorial and thought that was what flight was all about and never went any further. I only gave an opinion that the haters should look at it again with a more open mind of what it is and what it isn't.And it seems that some may need clarification that my thanks to Microsoft was mine and not a suggestion that others do the same.Todd

I'm one that Flight doesn't impress me much, I tried it and uninstalled it. I did reinstall it trying to give it a fair shake, but it's just not doing it for me. Not because it's anything bad, I just can't find any aspect to it, that FSX with the addons I already own doesn't already do as well or better in the same locale. Example GUI is too restrictive, I don't find scenery is better, different but not better. Sky textures are default level. I like the Stearman's panel but not the Icon. Instruments are not clear on the Icon, especially the GPS where you get the heading. Forcing me to use the so called HUD. Performance is good, but if I take out AI and use default level aircraft as well in the same area FSX, I get similar performance, so that's a wash. On a positive note it looks like it reads your control setup if you have FSX and sets it accordingly. I have a custom control setup using 2 joysticks (Due to a malfunction of part of one I use the second) Yet every button is assigned the same as I had in FSX, the only difference was the trim buttons were reversed. I doubt that was only coincidence. It made setup easy.

Well, you call it a pizza, I call it a smell of pizza. That's the difference. :wink:The program would be free if they wouldn't sell anything. But they do. Most of the Flight will not be free... if I continue your pizza comparison.. it's more like you get the dough and tomatoes for free but if you want cheese and ham, you have to pay. For me, the whole pizza would be the whole program, not parts of it (2 airplanes and a small island). We both have the right to express our thoughts. You like it, I don't. I'm cool with that.

...but what they do give you is free, with no strings attached (Other then having to register with Windows Live). There is no time limit to the game like the FSX demo had, so there is nothing stopping you from using the product as is if you choose not buy anything. The choice to do so is there if you want, but it's not a condition to use the base platform, hence the base program is free.

Thanks

It's free than.Yet, people will be spending much much more money to get the same amount of stuff that you get in other ordinary games which are not free.

hence the base program is free.
You mean the base of pizza  Just joking..

Well, if we're going to use the pizza analogy, I see it more as a plain cheese pizza, with the option to add additional toppings for a nominal fee. Hey, I love me some free cheese pizza, but if I'm going to be seeking pizza out, I want supreme.Or something. Anyway, still debating getting it. I'm leaning on the "no" side, based mainly on what *everyone* already knows (limited a/c, flight area, etc.), so this isn't a case of "Try it out before you make a decision!". I fly port to port. I look up short, 2 hours or less revenue routes on Flight Aware to and from airports that might strike my fancy at the moment. Flight just doesn't grab me where it matters.

Re-read your subject line. You disparagingly labeled some people's posts "unbelievable bashing". You mischaracterized those posts as complaining about a free program, rather than as complaining about two years of misleading, bait-and-switch advertising (no one would object to a free, no-distant-navigation sim if it'd been acknowledged as such to begin with). Then you falsely denied challenging anyone, and went on to disparage the post that pointed out that you'd done so ("(Shakes head in disbelief)" is a disparaging reply).
