Brakes not working on joystick buttons

Featured Replies

I had assigned my button 1 to both brakes and it was working fine for a while. Now, I can assign ANY button to brakes, but only the 'x' key works.Anyone have any problems like this and know how to fix it?I've already removed the assignments, restarted Flight and reassigned them, but no go. I'm tempted to uninstall and reinstall but it's a hassle I'd rather not go though if I can avoid it.WildBillWell, I got them working again. I deleted standard.xml in the %LocalAppData%MicrosoftFlightPlayers[varies]CareerControls folder.I then had to remap all of my controls that weren't default. For now, GTG!

Same problem here... button 1, no workie!BTW, I can assign the left and right toe brakes for my Saitek Pedals but there are two problems... 1) when I restart the game, the assignments are gone. 2) I have to "pump" the toe brakes to get them to work (when they are assigned). For problem number 2, I decided to look at "standard.xml". The code there shows an entry for the left and right brake axis, under an entry for the Saitek Rudder Pedals. It looks to me as if there needs to be some sort of "repeat" section... maybe???Maybe someone with xml skills can take a look! Thanks!

Hello Wild Bill,Welcome to Avsim. Hope you stick around and help build a positive and fun flight community here. I am sure there are members that can answer your questions.Kind regards,

The answers are no further than the new Tutorial section no one seems to be aware of yet... ;)First of all, you need to edit the right copy of the standard.xml file. Just like FSX, there are backup copies of all configuration files that're stored in case the program needs to recreate them. Since Flight and FSX may have more than one User, so too are the config files stored under the specific user's AppData folder area. The standard.xml file you must edit is found here:..UsersYourUserNameAppDataLocalMicrosoftFlightPlayersA31CB2FEA2F1CDF1CareerControlsThe specific edits you need are in the article Arwen wrote earlier this morning:http://forum.avsim.net/tutorials/article/23-differential-braking-with-joystick/

Thanks n4gix... I read that tutorial already. It does not address my left/right "toe" break issue (with Saitek Pedals) and it does not address the "full" break to button 1 issue.

You need to first assign the pedal's brake axes in the config manager of Flight. Then quit flight, find the entries in standard.xml file, make the required edits, save, and then relaunch Flight.Granted, I have the CH Pro Pedals, but the procedure should be the same for both models. While Arwen's mini-tutorial specifically mentions buttons on a stick, the same procedure is used, except in the Saitek's left and right brake entries.

it does not address the "full" break to button 1 issue.
What issue are you having with the "full" (both?) brakes? Both brakes are:<EventName>Brakes.Increment</EventName> <Repeat>32.000000</Repeat> ; this line was already included by default (which was why the "both" brakes key worked without any edits. If you are referring to the the ability to apply partial brake pressure (by pressing one button) and full brake pressure (by pressing another button), this doesn't seem to be an option in Flight (yet?). Pumping the brakes gives you the closest thing to partial brakes, while holding the brakes gives you full brakes.

Yes, unfortunately brake pressure isn't supported in Flight at this time. They are either on or off, which is why the <Repeat> has to be added to simulate a pumping action automatically.

I hope you don't think I'm being rude, but it does not seem as if you are reading my posts. Everything is explained. The turorial refers to "buttons" not "axis"... my toe breaks are "axis". Prehaps if I copy the code from the standard.xml file on my PC, it will make more sense...<MapName>Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals{37482420-5780-11E0-8002-444553540000}.{45AAD43A-A9BC-40E0-96BA-A3E3577BBE53}</MapName> <MapVersion>6</MapVersion> <Axis> <AxName>XAxis</AxName> <Index>0</Index> <EventName>Brakes.IncrementLeft</EventName> THIS IS THE ASSIGNMENT FOR MY "LEFT" TOE BRAKE <AxScale>1.000000</AxScale> </Axis> <Axis> <AxName>YAxis</AxName> <Index>1</Index> <EventName>Brakes.IncrementRight</EventName> THIS IS THE ASSIGNMENT FOR MY "RIGHT" TOE BRAKE <AxScale>1.000000</AxScale> </Axis>Before reading the tutorial, I had already attempted adding the repeat code here, when I discovered I could get them to work (sort of) by pumping them. Instead, the next time I started Flight, it acted funny (almost crashed) and I found that it removed the" standard.xml" file and rebuilt a default copy. And, lets not forget the OTHER problem I have with assigning "toe" brakes.... as soon as I restart Flight, the assignment for the toe brake (left and right) are gone... and I have to reset them again (everytime).I hope I have explained things better.

Oh no, not "rude" at all my friend, just frustrated! I do understand that feeling all too well myself at times... :Peace:I posted the settings for my pedals'

	 <Axis> <AxName>XAxis</AxName>

only the name of the controller is different. Did you not read post #6?However, the settings are not "displayed" by the configuration UI in Flight, although the settings should be working in the sim. Exiting Flight will not erase the edits you've made. They will still be there for the next time you load up Flight.

Yes, I realize that.

But, NOT the toe break assignments... in my case. They are gone. I have said that several times now. That's one of the reasons why I say it does not seem as if you are reading my posts... sorry! And, I did add the "<Repeat>" code snipit... but when I do (as I said above)... Flight has a "fit" (almost crashes) and rebuilds the "standard.xml".Perhaps we should just forget this for now. I thank you for attempting to help, but maybe it's best to just let things be for now. I don't want to waste any more of your time! Thanks! As a final note. The "button 1" brake works now. I did as the original poster did. I had to delete the standard.xml and start over from scratch.

You may assign the axes of ther pedals to toe brakes in Flight, but they will work as push buttons. You cannot use the repeat xml for the axis. Flight simply throws out the controller set up and resets to default...Makes it pointless to have pedals in the first place... show stopper on my setup...Andrew

Since MSGS have acknowledge this issue and have stated that it is being worked on, I'm willing to be patient. In the meantime, I can either use the keyboard or the two trigger buttons on my yoke, which is what I used in FS9 and FSX until I bought pedals... :Peace:

I've got the Saitek pedals as well, and am also waiting for the brakes to be supported...If I assign them in the UI, they appear as X and Y axis which conflicts with the Yoke X and Y axis.If I add the "repeat", Flight protests and rewrites the xml fileIf I try Rx and Ry axis, Flight ignores them.. best to wait!
