Which Cores?

Featured Replies

Hi Guy's. Does anyone use the Process Affinity option in advanced settings to improve performance?Just wondering if theres any benefit in assigning single cores for Vox ATC as i appear to be running all my four cores on it as i do for FSX and other add-ons according to task manager.

Kind Regards

Simon.

Not using it.

I'd also be interested to hear what others are using. I'm planning on moving it to one of my latter cores to see if it improves performance.

I was told by FSPC when I asked this question when using their Booster, they emailed me back that all addons best practice to be placed onCore 0.if anyone knows otherwise , I'll be glad to hear.

Thanks for the info JoelSo this theory is to have all running add-ons on Core 0 and FSX on the remaining Cores or FSX using Core 0 as well as the others?

Well i tryed some tests last night and moved all my add-ons to Core 0 and FSX used all cores (including 0) and i seemed to lose FPS which i guess was the processor under more strain so i then moved all add-ons over to core 3 instead ( I have 0-3 cores) and the FPS went up and i reckon its here that i get better performance. So this seems a better option for me and as long as i continue to get good performance i will stick ith it.It would be interesting to hear of anyone elses experience with this.

good to know.how do you set other addons to use a certain core other then Vox BTW?

I just go into task manager and select 'processes' then right click a process and select 'Set Affinity' and then choose which processors to run the selected process.Trouble is i hav'nt worked out how to save them so they have to be changed each time i load up. I'm sure it makes a difference though.

Unfortunately with Task Manager it won't save the affinity. I use a program called Process Lasso to do this and it works great.I have 6 cores and use it to switch all but the vital Windows processes to the latter cores. I still let FSX use all 6 cores. FSX does most of its work on core 0 and 1. After that, as I understand it the remaining cores are used for scenery load.I find this configuration gives me best FSX performance. I run VoxATC on the latter cores and it works great. When I have run it on Core 0 I have had issues with both FSX and VoxATC.It may be natural for core 0 to be the priority for programs or perhaps just the way programmers code, but only so much can be done on 1 core.Chris

I agree with you Chris as i did some recent tests using different cores and came to the same conclusion. I will have to look into the program you mention as its a chore having to change settings everytime.Cheers.

Simon.
