Tweaking the "Free Look" camera

I have tied to use the same techniques used by Cub1 to add the "InitialPbh = 8.0, 0, 0" statement to the cockpit view. But nothing seems to happen. Cub1, do you know what the "p", "b" and "h" stand for. There must be a way to set the default camera position relative to the airplane.
p = pitchb = bankh = heading

n4gix,Thanks for explaining the pbh meanings. It does work for the cockpit view but not for the "outside" views.Brian

I think I stumbled on something. I did a windows explorer search on "camera". I found that the .FLT files that MS Flight uses to "save a flight" have information about any changes you have made to cameras and other things during your flight. From that I found that my eyepoint changes to the F11 Free Look camera were documented in that file. So if you wish to make this change you should append the following statements to the Free Look camera definition in the Cameras.CFG file.// Changes to raise eyepontTranslation=0, 0, 0ChaseDirection=0.0ChaseDistance=37.5ChaseAltitude=5.0If you want to experiment with this, just make a bunch changes... save the flight... then examine the .FLT file for the statements and parameters that apply.Another thing I tried was changing "CycleHidden=Yes" to "CycleHidden=No" for some of the hidden camera views. The two I found interesting and useful are the "Spot" camera and the "Facilities Runway" Camera. The Spot camera is a very much like the the Free Look camera I modified to give a peek at the runway when I wanted it. The Spot camera gives me another Free Look without the eyepoint lift which is better for flying. There is no key assignment for the Spot camera that I can find but, once unhidden, it is always shown after the cockpit view if you use F7 to cycle through the cameras. The Runway camera is real jewel of a tool. It will "look" at all the runways of any airport that you are close to. If you are near Honolulu International, it will result in multiple cameras... one for each available runway... which can generate 4 or 10 or more dynamic cameras... you might find this annoying. However it does not show up unless you cycle through the views. But where it really shines is when you are trying to find one of those little airstrips in the woods. The F12 Top Down View map is not very useful. The little runways don't pop out much. The runway view will always look at the runway as you fly. It doesn't have a key assignment either... but will always display next after the F12 Top View if you use F7 to cycle views.I hope you find this usefulBrian
thanks for this, matey. Been stuck with this for a while...

I'm trying to tweak my free look camera with no success. No change I make to the Cameras.CFG has any effect in game. (I have been able to make changes in Flight.CFG after changing Custom=0 to 1. I've restored the original file now.)

I've tried adding InitialPbh and InitialXyz values as well as changed InitialZoom just to try and see some change in game. I just want to tilt the camera down a little to see the horizon during takeoff and perhaps zoom out a little.

Can someone please help a noob?

Welcome to the forums winjimon!

As you have not had a detailed response yet, I will try to help with the very small amount of knowledge I have of this.

I myself have not messed around much with changing the views, other than changing the default zoom in the cockpit view. I did notice, once I changed that and launched Flight again, I had to hit the eyepoint reset to get it to apply the first time, as apparently the zoom level was saved from my previous flight before making the change.

First, make sure you are making the change to the correct camera defnition category.

If you have not, have a read through post #15 in this thread.

Also, if you have not, have a read on this tutorial from the Flight tutorials section here at Avsim.

http://forum.avsim.net/tutorials/article/62-adjusting-your-default-view/

Also, always a good idea to make a backup of the original camera.cfg file to have just in case something goes wrong.

If none of this is helpful, post back with details on what you have tried, and hopefully someone more knowledgeable on this will be able to help.

Thanks for the greeting and trying to help Don.

I have been able to adjust the zoom, but still have no luck with initial orientation via 'InitialPbh'.

I've copied and pasted examples from the likes of the link you shared, and tried values small and large.

That is unfortunately beyond my level of expertise, there are some guys that hung out in here that can probably help you, however since the announcement of no more development for Flight, not sure how active they are in here now. Perhaps someone will respond that can help you further. If not, you might try the Steam Flight Forum, there are a couple folks from the Flight Team that are active in posting and answering questions in there.

Best of luck,

Don B

I never tested any of the camera adjustments on the Free Look camera, only the Cockpit and Screenshot cameras. The Free Look camera may simply ignore the InitialPby parameter.

I reformatted my computer yesterday and don't have Flight installed (yet?), so I can't check on that.

However, to make sure you're using the correct syntax, test your commands on the Cockpit camera, or enable the Screenshot camera and test on that.
