What aircraft do you want in Flight?

Featured Replies

Cessna 172 and the Piper Supercub/J3 Cub. (either would do)

Some very good ideas have been submitted in this thread regarding aircraft.I am sure I stated earlier, and will state again:Unless/until native Track IR support is added , I will not be purchasing any future DLC of any kind.Hate to say that as I am really loving Flight, but I feel this is sorely needed and I can be a stubborn one.

I'd love to see a Mooney Acclain Type S, I also got a soft spot for the 172RG08-627_234.jpg65243.jpg

Some cool GA aircraft or a GulfStream (yes I know they won't license their models but it's wishful thinking)

There are definitely some excellent aircraft ideas in this thread - looking forward to what is coming! One of the "splash screens" in Flight now says to look at the website for projects "in the works", and their Facebook page has a teaser "guess the aircraft" pic of an engine/prop/spinner that looks a little like a Zero - but that doesn't fit with what (I think) the growth path is...A note on Traci IR, as quite a few people indicate this is a deal breaker for them - I've never used it, and have no plans to. The immersion factor is good enough for me without it. Of course, my brother and I use to "fly" in a bare PT-22 fuselage that my Dad had in the back yard - complete with engine sounds, tower chatter, and engine failures!

Hey newthog,Yeah Track IR is one of those things, if you have never used it then you certainly would not know what you have been missing out on. Back in the early days of Track IR I had started seeing flight simmers posting on what a great device it was and encouraging folks to seriously consider getting one. I did not really pay much attention as I was just fine as things were, I mean after all my Hat1 on my TM Cougar was making panning my view around very easy. Or so I thought...And while it sounded like some sort of tracking device, I just did not really delve any deeper into it.Well I kept seeing more and more recommendations, and at that time I was getting into more and more flight simming by adding new titles to my collection - and I started seeing the developers marketing their new titles as having support for Track IR, and hearing more and more about it from flight simmers. So I thought, I will find the website for the mfg and read up on it and see for myself what it is really all about. I did, started reading up on it and thought ok well sounds a little neat, but .... then I checked out the video on their website showing how the thing worked - ok after viewing that video, I very shortly after placed an order - for what at that time was the Track IR3, which only had 2 degree of freedom movement. I was concerned however, as I am one that gets motion sickness very easily - and was worried I would not really be able to make good use of it. In fact to this day, I simply cannot play any fps games - I get so nauseated and sick from them after about 30 minutes of play. Interestingly though both flying, and racing sims do not bother me in the least. After installing my new toy, I tested it out in IL2 FB - Pacific Fighters. I remember my first flight very well. I started out on the deck of a carrier, and the first time I looked around at the surrounding water, holy cow was I impressed. Took off in my mission, got into a dogfight battle, and omg - the ability to look around by the simple act of moving my head a little, looking for bandits - keeping an eye on a bandit I was engaged with, I mean I was hooked in a big way. The adjustment for me, going from the hat switch to the Track IR device, was very minimal. I would say within about 30 minutes I was completely comfortable and it had become second nature, was not even having to put any thought into it as I used it - and every flight sim I owned at the time, either had native support already for track IR, or support available by a simple download and placement of a small file. Then when Track IR4 Pro came out, I upgraded to it as it had 6dog movement and higher resolution. And now of course there is a Track IR5, which has even higher resolution and higher fov. I am planning on going ahead and upgrading from the 4 to the newer 5 here in the next month or so. I am a big fan of flight sims, and will always have a few titles on my pc at a given time. But ever since that day of loading up that first flight in IL2 Pacific Fighters, I have been hooked in a big way on Track IR - and have always said since, I could not imagine having to fly a sim without it. For the most part, anyone I have seen that has gone to the Track IR device over the years, the effect has been very similar. Of course there are some that stated they hated it and was a waste of money for them - however from what I have seen, these are rare occurences. As far as Flight goes, while I certainly am enjoying the sim very, very much , flying with having to use my Hat1 as POV to me is like taking a step back about 10 years in flight simming. For me, the necessity of having a Track IR for use in the title, ranks right up there as just as essential as having a joystick. It has been several years, since a major flight sim release, has been released without having the native support for the Track IR device. Heck even MS recognized this as well, with FSX and previously in FS9. Which is why I am at least hopefull, that the implentation is at least on their to do list of features to be added to Flight. Even many racing sims today, are released with native Track IR support. On or around March 5th, Natural Point - the mfg of Track IR - stated on their forums that MS had expressed their desire to them at that time , to proceed with getting this done - and they- MS - have the sdk from Natural Point and all the info they need to do so. So while I am enjoying Flight and having some fun with it right now, it certainly will not be long term for this user unless they do add this feature. So much of the enjoyment I get out of Flight is from looking around, whether that be to just look at the scenery, or look for that missing Kayaker in the Rescue Mission, or try to look ahead for the placement of the next gold ring while I am on the path for the current ring I am going for in the gold rush challenge, or peek around the corner to see what is there, or lean my head out the side of the Stearman to get a better view of the runway I am about to land on, or move my head in closer to get a better view of that instrument I am looking at in the cockpit...Whew, my apologies for getting so dang long winded and away from the topic title, as you can see when it comes to Track IR I have a real passion for it in flight simulators. As previously mentioned, to me it is just as essential as my stick. My checklist prior to launching a flight simulator on my pc - Insure stick, throttle , pedals still calibrated accurately, insure Track IR device software is running and centered. So yes, it is that important to me, that MS not adding it to Flight would be a deal breaker for going forward for me with this fantastic sim.I would encourage any flight simmer that has not tried it, and especially any newcommers to the wonderful world of flight simming on the pc that has an inclination they are going to stick with it and even add more titles, to read up on it, view the videos of the Track IR in use, ask questions in the various forums, as you truly may not know what you have been missing out on.Ok , back to the thread subject...

There is a new plane news on MS Flight facebook page, at least a part of a image to make a guess.Definitely a single propeller again.... and that's again a old one ......something like a WWII Japanese model...Is MS aware the world has produced planes also in the last 30-40 years and most of them are jets ?

Whew, my apologies for getting so dang long winded and away from the topic title, as you can see when it comes to Track IR I have a real passion for it in flight simulators
No apologies needed! Our passion about games, sims, and the everything that goes with them is what makes this so interesting! While Track IR does seem like an excellent accessory, and you "stated your case" quite well, it's just not for me. However - your explanation of how it has changed your experience makes it easier for me to understand how you, and others, feel this is vital.I hope, for you and many others, that Microsoft does integrate this - as you said, there's so much to enjoy seeing!

Thanks Newthog!Yes I am passionate - and I appreciate your wishes that they do add this for us Track IR users. While I had emailed the Flight team regarding how important this was for me, several days ago, I emailed them a copy of my post here today as well, to hopefully give them an example of why it is so important for many dedicated Track IR users such as myself.Time will tell and I am hopefull.Have fun!
