I imagine the same thing that happens when you hit a "border" in Flight now... The land becomes untextured and you keep flying until you run out of gas. People have already gone beyond the so-called "border" around Hawaii and found untextured islands well outside the in-game map.

I just realized that calling this "Journey to Alaska" is a misnomer, since it doesn't look like making the journey (flying from Hawaii) will even be possible.
