I have ORBX but as good as it is, I just don't get that excited flying over scenery even of that quality in Australia. I am always turning back to other parts of the World. Australia is without any doubt a great place to travel around on the ground, but not so good from the air imho.I suspect the number of people who bought ORBX coverage for Australia would be quite small in the scheme of Microsoft's sales targets for Flight scenery. Alaska is world-famous for it's beautiful scenery and I expect MS would be concentrating on similar types of areas now and in the medium-term future.
Let's not forget that Orbx didn't create AU because they thought it was the most beautiful plane on earth. They created it because they lived there. It's a spin off of freeware made by some enthusiastic Aussies! As soon as Orbx found out there was a business in creating scenery, they immediately went for PNW, followed by Pacific Fjords. The exact same and VERY logical area MS is giving us soon. Only the MS offering is bigger and, so I sincerely hope, cheaper too. Well, I am sure it will be cheaper, at least when it comes to dollar per square mile. I have no worries about the quality because the MS Flight engine is so much better then the FSX one!(Maybe that's why Orbx wasn't too positive about MS Flight... )

I doubt they really care since there are no SDK for flight.I think MS should worry because ORBX scenery inside FSX offers much more than flight.

I live in the US and I'd buy places like New Zealand, Japan, Norway, Greece and Columbia in a heartbeat.

The good think is it will allow comparison with FSX + ORBX Pacific Fjord scenery (that is more or less the same area and so same kind of scenery) to see if we can stay with FSX + mods or if Flight can be appealing.Looking forward for the first feed back and comparison screen shot.

It does, yes, but firstly it is much more expensive. I am not being judgemental to either ORBX or MS in saying that, but that is the truth of the matter. I believe, however, that both sceneries offer value, just appealing to different market expectations. Secondly, many computers that run Flight well will choke on ORBX scenery. This is one of the main reasons I no longer use FSX. Performance is a very high priority for me because a consistently high frame rate conveys the fluidity of flight far better. I know that in buying MS scenery for Flight that I am extremely unlikely to run into any performance issues. I cannot say this for the ORBX scenery I own, and I own a fairly powerful PC.

Anyway, its great there is competition, so we can expect two high quality products and fair prices.

My guess is that at least some of the 1.2 million miles would be Canadian. For those wondering what happens at the border of the scenery my guess is it switches to very low resolution textures and elevation, and no airports, buildings or autogen.- Gary Letona
Perhaps a tiny bit will be of Canada, but no reason it needs to be high-res, but around half of the 1.2 sq miles will likely be water, assuming the area will be a rectangle that includes all of Alaska.

Hi,Hope the next scenery after Alaska will be Norway. The scenery would be awesome with the fjords and mountains when flying a turboprop between the many airfields along the coast.rgs

My goodness, what a huge turn around from those awful toxic anti Flight posts of just a few weeks ago that led to the shutdown of this forum. This is really great to see and bodes well for the franchise...
