Hey guy's, thought this would be an interesting poll to see people's impression's so far, and to see a cross section of who is using MS Flight now.I must say at first I was skeptical about flying in Hawaii, but I went ahead and bought the Hawaii pack with the RV-6, and I've been having a blast! The RV-6 is really alot better then the default planes, I've already made a few flight plans and have been having alot of fun doing short hops around Hawaii using VOR navigation.

I would suggest that you add one more choice for this : Do you use VOR navigation with the RV-6 or Maule?

  • Yes
  • No, I don’t know how to use VOR
  • I havent bought the RV-6 or Maule yet
  • No, I know how to use VOR but navigation isn't relevant to the short distances traveled.

Cheers,

Jonathan

Nice poll. I voted the usual answers for a GA flyer that likes MS Flight, but I chose for Airliners instead of small prop planes. Not because I like airliners that much, but because airliners in MS Flight are a bit useless without ATC, an autopilot, long distance covering a lot of scenery, etc. etc. etc. And THOSE are things I'd like to see in MS Flight, maybe even more then an airliner. I mean, really, if ever MS will be releasing an airliner, it won't be comparable to the PMDG 737NGX, I think.... so I will reserve FSX for that one. But I'd really love to see more 'flightsim-stuff-we-are-used-to' in MS Flight!

That would be better indeed. I voted I do use VOR but I only used it for now to see if it worked (I did one complete flight with the aid of VOR) and because there is no GPS. Normally I fly missions and jobs and simply follow the magnificent bright yellow arrow... :P

I agree on the VOR question. No correct answer available for me. Had to fib and pick one.Ray

Hi mna27Nice Poll, but IMHO, I think some questions need tweaking.Have you bought the RV-6 or Maule aircraft yet? (The RV-6A comes for free with Hawaii, Mustang P'51 does not). How would you compare Microsoft Flight’s flying characteristics to FSX? (Don't know yet, still have to test)Would you say Microsoft is on the right track so far? (Dont know)How much do you think additional planes should cost in the future?(Speculating about cost, might be "dangerous" for us)If you had a choice, what type of planes would you mostly purchase in the future?(All of the above)And I agree the VOR question also needs another choice.

unfortunately it does not give the option to edit the poll anymore :(Sorry about the VOR question I was thinking more along the lines of who knew how to do it, to show the experience of each pilot playing MS Flight. I guess it will be a little more needed in Alaska.

maybe it will let me edit the poll on my home computer where I started it..., Ill check when I get home.

Agreed. I haven't used VOR in Flight, although I know how to use it. I don't fly in real life, but am a technician, so I'm pretty familiar with most avionics.

I shot the Lanai ILS in the RV just to see how it works in-game. I'm familiar enough with the islands to pretty much get anywhere I want to go, at least in VMC, so I doubt I'll get much use out of radio nav there, but Alaska beckons.

guess it's to late to edit the poll :( don't see the option anymore...I guess you don't really need VOR in Hawaii you could prob just point in the general heading or follow the coast, but I'm still having alot of fun using it. I haven't flown in Hawaii much at all in previous sims so I don't know where all the airports are, so its fun making a VOR flight plan and not looking at the map at all to hop around.

For the VOR question how about... I know how to use VOR but I haven't tried it yet? Until AI and atc is added I may not get around to using it. Why follow the airways when you are alone in the world? Right now this is a pretty good VFR program. I was married in Hawaii so I have some built in nostalgia.

Because using a vor is useful for navigation, and also quite fun?I want atc, but i don't fully understand not usuing radio navingation because it's missing. Atc in fsx was a bit of a mess. I rarely used it for ga flying, and it was hard to do a long jet flight and keep it working. Rc4 was much better. So i want atc for flight, but good, usuable atc. You're not alone in the world in multiplayer - but yes, i do want ai, that's top of my list too.

I agree with you about FXS. I always made sure I had AISmooth running in the background. But having atc vectoring ai aircraft into my flight's vicinity would be most realistic. After all, these navaids are put there to control flight traffic. Sure, it's fun just doing the instrument navigating thing, but for me, most of the fun is navigating through the vors and dealing with traffic and weather on the way to touch down. I know HOW to use the vors. I guess I need more of a reason to do it in MS Flight. Especially in these low and slow aircraft.

So far I haven't really done any flights in Flight where the VORs were relevant, but I do know how to use them. In the category of aircraft price I answered 'what I would like to pay', rather than what 'a plane should cost'. I'd prefer planes to only cost $10,- but that doesn't mean I definitely won't buy them if they cost more.

good points, should I make a new poll tweaking the questions and maybe removing the price question? If enough people vote it might be an interesting source of info for Microsoft.
