Two things:- there are NO special, extra textures or whatsoever artwork used in these shots! The "only" thing I changed in this scenery - compared to default Global Scenery - is, that I upped the mesh resolution! Thus, I "just" get better elevation representation AND better more detailed representation of the landuse data (better terrain placement). BUT, I still use the same raw data AND I still reference the original Global Scenery artwork set!- and these textures are SUMMER (well, early summer - which is our usual reference most of the time), no special, extra winter stuff. You need to realize, that many mountains (especiall glaciers), have lots of snow in early summer (well even trough all of the summer)! And that is what we try to mimic with our texture sets.PS: about snowy mountains in summer. I hike a lot in the European Alps, an can show you this form my experiences (late August, andyes, my pictures):Hiking - Monte Rosa Group, 23.8.2010-26.8.2010Hiking - Gran Paradiso, 21.8.2010-22.8.2010

Not really, Markus.I'm just trying to "educate" him.Seasonal textures are a VERY, VERY big issue for Jim. If it doesn't have seasons, then it just isn't worth getting.Screw the flight model, the night lighting, the 3D cockpits, the scenery!!...if it doesn't have seasonal textures, it just ain't a flight sim worth paying for! :(

well, do whatever you want if you have the time available. I don't…

"You need to realize" that it's winter time in Canada, and a lot of other areas of the world, and the ground from November to April is covered with at least a minimum of a foot of snow, not the lush green landscape we currently have in XPX. You don't need to be in mountains to have snow, maybe where you guys live, certainly not around here.I have to side with Jim on this one. It's great for all you guys that live in more temperate climates, the lush green look of XPX, but for those of us that do have 4 seasons in a year, the current seasonal representation or lack there of, is a bit disappointing. No, there are not winter textures in XPX, at least none that I see in my areas of flying, like home, where I still have close to three feet of snow on the ground. Do I see that in XPX, no, so it doesn't have seasonal texture representation. This fact isn't even worth arguing, and is a shortfall of XPX. Did it stop me from buying XPX, no, is it disappointing, sure is. I was at least able to have winter ground textures in my area with XP9, why not XPX?My place this morning, XPX looks nothing like this, end of the argument.p.s. I do like the shots, (so did Jim by the way), but lets not kid ourselves when it comes to "Winter" textures, they don't exist globally where they should, and greatly diminishes the "plausible" world. It's winter, put snow on the ground where it belongs.Glen

Thats exactly what I say ... of course NO winter textures here. The snow you see is definitely the summer representation of those areas (just like all textures are for summer now). If anybody is wondering how it is in real life, just zoom in on Alaska in Google Maps. Green in the valleys, snow on the mountains (very simplified). And about the seasons ... I think, this has been reiterated a few times, but why not let me do it again. Laminar is - as many might know - not a multimillion dollar software development shop with hundreds of employees (very, very far from that). And with the available resources, you always have to decide on priorities. Where to spend the time best ...etc. AND, especially with seasons, its a complex thing. They would need to have a complete, finished summer texture set to start with. But not even that is finished. Of course you see some texturing everywhere on the planet as we reuse textures ... even a lot from the old XP9 artwork to fill the surface of the entire planet (with halfway acceptable stuff). But if you carefully observe your updater, you will see every now or then, that it also fetches quite a few new textures too ... So, yes, indeed, the summer textures are worked on, and some areas should already look different than they were around the first release of XP10. This will continue. BUT, with this, there are not so many cycles left for seasons (neither makes it much sense to modify textures which are not even final). Finally, I fully well understand that for many, seasons are important. And yes, they are relevant. And yes, even though my region has not long snow coverage, I really enjoy winter and snowy landscapes (just see my galleries over at Flickr, then you understan - see my signature). But not even this can change our priorities ... some things have to be done before others.

Perhaps now is the time to quit hiding behind this "excuse", and expand the development team. Quite honestly I get tired of hearing / reading this. We've spent our money....you know the rest.Glen

The last thing I want to see is a much bigger development team than what Laminar has now, it will be very detrimental to the sim in my opinion, it would then draw its accompaniment of bean counters and you can then say goodbye to pretty well everything we have now."Flight" had an army of developers going for years yet go and check what is missing in it.I'm sorry you feel they are hiding behind this as an excuse, and you think you've been short changed. But seriously I think in the alternative you suggest we would end up the poorer.

jason, don't misunderstand the underlying issues here. Anytime people bring up these shortcomings of XPX, the standard predictable answer is we will get to it when we have time because were only a small group. Honestly, that excuse and it is an excuse is growing old. I'm not alone as you very well know with my feelings about this. There is nothing worse than someone offering something for sale, advertised in a particular way, and then falling pretty far from the advertised mark. Then, when the paying customer asks why they didn't receive what they were expecting, their told that we can't give it too you right now because were only a small team with limited resources, this tends to tick people off. Not too hard to understand.Don't get me wrong, I'm on board for the long haul, but I do get really tired of the excuses, there's no need for them, other than someones greed. Hire a few more people and start pumping out the stuff were expecting, and quit giving excuses why it isn't done. Nobody is suggesting they hire bean counters, get people that can expedite the process of giving the paying customer, what they were originally offered.Glen

I can agree with that.

ok I'm out numbered but I still don't agree, we will have to just leave it at that.

Hello !Great shots Andras !I'm also glad Laminar Research is a small team. That's the only way they can focus on the simulation engine in the long term (already awesome), and also focus on a decent global world, where everyone can contribute, with free and open projects like OpenStreetMap or X-Plane Airport & Navigation Data.Add more employees to the team, and everything will only be about money, no more about flight simulation. I don't want X-Plane to become something like Microsoft Flight, where add-on developers and users have nothing to say, and where they'll never be able to fly in their own country. I don't want X-Plane to become something like Prepar3D, where you have to pay every month to be able to fly. I don't want X-Plane to become something like AeroFly FS, where IFR is not possible and where add-ons or evolutions are not planned. If you want everything to look better in your hometown, or plane, just use or create add-ons ! About money, you guys have to be kidding. The advantage of hiring a few people is to get this sim to where it should already be, in a more timely fashion, that's all. You guys are too stuck on the "Laminar" way of doing things, which up till now with version 10 really didn't work. How many years have they been working on this, and it's still a long way from being complete. I hardly see how hiring a few people can hurt in getting this sim closer to completion, other than the fact it would mean having to give some money to a few added employees. Who's worried about loosing money, ironic isn't it.Glen

I think it worked better than the competition and still continues. :(

I added some comparison shots to the set! Check out the subtle :( difference between default Global Scenery and HD Scenery. (start at picture 48 - and they are named accordingly with airport name)http://picasaweb.goo...Plane10AlaskaHD
