How good is FS GLOBAL 2010?

Featured Replies

I am amazed by the file size of the software, I wonder how far it can take fs9ers to a new level of simming. I have read some of its reviews and it sounds not bad at all. I'd like to know more from users' point of views... and is earth curvature also covered by FS Global? (I know it is impossible fs2004 can be modified to depict the curvature, but i think it's fair to expect that much since FSGlobal has huge amount of file).Thank Youregards

I use FS Global 2005 and the difference to stock mesh is amazing. Can only assume 2010 will be better.Dont think curvature is part of the program.

HelloYou will not get curvature of the earth in FS9 no matter what you do. The world is a flat diskFSX is based on a round earth model though.

Okay thanx, just curious what it actually does. Does it cause conflicts when using UT and GE?guess it will be more useful for those who fly low and slow.

I'm using it with UT and GE and must say pretty nice combo. Despite the fact that there are some areas have problems with the surface.....

UT, FSG and GE perform different things so are quite compatible. FSGlobal will enhance mountains to give them far more detail than the default FS9. GE changes the look of the ground giving it a more realistic look than the default. UT adds things like roads, lakes and rivers. Whether you fly high or low the combined effect of all three gives FS a much more realistic look.

loud and clear. Another 51 pounds for ground jewelryThank you mate

Being that the product is somewhat old, do you feel GEPro is still worth the $50? Being that it is global coverage I am somewhat enticed into getting it now, although I want to use REX for the environment textures. I also considered FSGlobal but it seems rather expensive. Also, in GEPro is there a way for it NOT to install the sky textures; only ground?

There's always going the FS Genesis route. You can purchase mesh for the part of the world you fly in, or do like I did and purchase a lifttime membership and get mesh worldwide for life. You should check out what Justin have before u purchase FS Global. FS Gensis offers the best quality mesh at the best price

I do have some mesh for the parts of the world I fly in the most. However, FSGlobal seems to be more accurate detail from what I have seen (for a cost vs. region point of view).Anyway, any advice on GEPro being worth it? I think I might go ahead and purchase it, as there doesn't seem to be any other quality global textures that can compare for the price. My main concern is that GEPro will be overwriting REX textures (the sky textures), so before every flight I will have to run GEPro and install those textures, then run REX and re-install all the REX textures (which can take some time). Searching around on REX and GEPro integration, and the way I think it would have to work, and I think this sums it up - can anyone confirm that uses both?
I just went through this drill - as nearly as I can tell if you want GEP graphics you get both ground and sky whether you want them both or not. Consequently, you can run ASV and let it do its thing with GEP to get the ground textures and load the sky; then run REX and let it do the sky - don't let ASG do auto submit cloud updates by the way. If anyone has a better notion I'd love to hear it!

GE only replaces your ground textures, Yes there are options to replace sky textures, water and night textures (which REX has better looks than GE, imo), but you can choose not to install it. GE and REX work great together, as REX doesn't mess around with ground. Normally, you won't need to install anything in each flight unless you want to have different looks in every flight.

I am aware that REX doesn't include most ground textures (it does offer airport textures), but both REX and GEPro will conflict in the sky/environment textures. If GEPro offers the option to check/un-check what you wish to install, other than ground textures, than that would solve my concerns. Can you indeed confirm if GEPro does offer the ability to un-check sky or environment textures to install? Otherwise it appears we will have to run GEPro and then REX to over-write the GEPro sky textures.

Affirm. In main menu, you will see Ground Textures menu, Sky textures, Weather Control and Configuration. Each of them needs your confirmation prior to install their respective textures. for instance, when you choose sky textures, you will have to either "create" or install existing default textures, or just simply leave them as they are, meaning, you don't modify any of sky textures as REX will do the part. Same goes to Water and Ground.set your GE setting as desired before you apply REX textures, that is much safer in case you unintentionally install any of sky/water textures, REX will finally overwrite them. That's what I can remember, I could've showed you screenshots but I'm at the office now and you could always check its reviews here at AVSIM.Regards

Thanks for the information Coltrane. I'm pretty sure I'm going to purchase GEPro. I have read the reviews, however they are about 6 years old now and so I was trying to search around to see if there was anything better than GEPro by now or if it is still the best add-on for ground textures. Thanks

You can save 20USD by getting Ground Environment instead of the Pro version. I have the original and it looks fine. I'm not sure what the Pro version gives you that the original doesn't.http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=ge2006
