March 11, 201214 yr They are there to aid the flight crew's memories. Captain's yoke: how many times he needs to use the rolled-up newspaper. First officer's yoke: callsign or next controller's frequency. Just kidding. Please don't hurt me... Kenny Lee"Keep climbing"
March 11, 201214 yr If you're talking about the ones on the inboard horn of the yoke, yes, they're used as a "scratchpad" for important numbers. Some, but by no means all, PNFs/PMs (pilot not flying/pilot monitoring) use them to keep track of the flight number they're on. If you were flying AS 1 from KDCA to KSEA, you'd have a "001" dialed in.If you're talking about the ones across the top of the housing over the hub of the yoke, they show control deflection. With controls centered, the peaked area just aft is on "0". Try adding aileron trim on the ground and watch the wheel rotate in the appropriate direction. You can also see the aileron deflect from the over wing view. Herman Ross Seattle, USA
