March 11, 201214 yr My Basic SystemCore i7 2600k @ 4.6 GHz8GB DDR1600 Ram2 EVGA GTX570 Superclocked edition in SLI w/295.73 driversTrue 120 Hz MonitorPlease note, I am not knocking Flight, I was in the beta and I absolutely love the sim. I just have a couple questions/comments.Why is it that EA can release a game (Battlefield 3) and I can get 80+ FPS at max settings with no stutters, great graphics, and unbelievable immersion with DX11 mind you.Microsoft releases the game which I play at max settings, CPU is loaded to 30%, cards are never loaded past 80% and I get stutters and framerate issues. I should not have to switch back to 1 card or install a framerate limiter to alleviate this issue.Am I missing something?
March 11, 201214 yr Flight appears to be DX9 only, which cuts off a lot of cool options right there.I can just imagine what they could do with juicy options like tessellation and some other modern post processing effects.I would say though, that your setup should not be having those issues, as I am very smooth with max settings even in multiplayer.I would check to see whats running in the background, and also if your HD is properly defragmented etc. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. March 11, 201214 yr Disabling SLI might be necessary in some games, not just MS Flight. My ATI 6990 runs the game worse in Crossfire than it does a single GPU also. Some games handle sli/crossfire well, some don't. March 11, 201214 yr Because Flight is "based" on the same engine as FSX......like my father always said..."You can't make something new with something old"They are working on it, can't go into details but let just say that Flight was prematurely released...
March 11, 201214 yr Hey Juicehead,I run an I7 920 cpu at 4.1 ghz, with 6gb of DDR3 1600 mhz ram and a GTX 460 1gb video card.At max graphic settings, mine is still very smooth and while I have not measured them yet, appears to be very decent framerates.I should think your system would easily run it better than mine - the one difference would be that 120 mhz monitor, I run a 24" wide screen led, at 1920x1080 - 60 mhz monitor though. Not sure how much the newer 120 mhz monitors cost in performance.styckx may be on to something there, I would definitely try it without sli. Also check your vsync - if not enabled in the graphics options, try enabling it.Barring that, try reducing Shadow Quality and Scenery Density from Maximum to High. I think these two are the bigger hitters on performance, and the gain visually from going from High to Maximum is not that great... Don B
March 11, 201214 yr As mentioned, SLI might be hurting your performance. And I think the developers did mention that in the Discussion Area, so you should have noticed it.Flight is most likely not using the same core engine as FS X, for the simple reason that the graphics rendering was handled in the software and therefore by the CPU in that game. By shifting this to the graphics card in Flight, the developers probably had to rewrite most, if not all, of the code. So, it is new, if that means anything. However, there are a lot of the same performance enhancing techniques that were used previously, such as Level of Detail Radius for display of ground textures and autogen, LOD models for all objects, etc. And they come with the same issues that we faced before. The solution is also the same: turn down settings. Although with your system, that is not the problem. I have a much less powerful computer than you and get 60 FPS almost all the time. And if Flight relies on DX9, it is for the simple reason that about half the computers in the world are still running Windows XP, and the game has to sell. There is no point in shutting out half the potential market by shifting to a more advanced version of DirectX.Best regards.Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
March 11, 201214 yr Just did some experiments I actually found Crossfire method that works well.. Was forcing AFR but decided to give Optimized 1x1 a go and it's performing as I'd expect Crossfire to perform now. It's been years since I've put a Nvidia product in my machines so excuse my lack of knowledge of them but does Nvidia offer different methods of SLI you can use? For example ATI I can force Default, AFR, or Optimize 1x1.. If Nvidia has different methods I would cycle through them and see if one yields different results. Sometimes `default' isn't always the best. I realize that SLI has had issues in the past but "Flight" is a new title and SLI should perform like a dream IMO. As it does in DCS A-10, RoF, and other titles. I hope MS will release an update to fix the SLI issue and not just tell me to "use one card" as a fix. As for the 120Hz monitor, it just "opens the pipe" so to speak for frames above 60fps, also prevents clipping, one of the single best investments I have made. Even on the windows deskop, the cursor movement is very fluid.
