another little place to land on ( with pictures)

Featured Replies

Neat! Almost looks as if the aerial photo the land class is based on happened to capture a small ultralight field!

I wish people would stop using that stupid hud, I see that and just the site of it reminds me of the game preview before I tried the sim... I don't blame people who haven't tried Flight for hating it seeing that big eye sore on top of the screen.
Well, MS can't sell cockpit-less planes without a HUD. So yeah, I also wish it didn't even exist. But, back on topic, I guess I need to start grabbing some pics of the "fun" places I find to land.

I use HUD in crosswinds. I know I shouldn't, but it helps a lot... Has anyone tried to read the wind from movement of trees?

Hawaii!

I didn't find nor the airport (Hilo?) nor the runway (8 26 3 21 at Hilo). Please help.Found Puu Waa Waa Ranch (HI13) runways 2 and 20.

I want to be a VFR simmer.

its a piece of landclass .
Ah ha! Those bits of landclass pretending to be airfields are still out there :) Tricky little things...

Hi AlbaranPuu Waa Waa Ranch HI13 is located on the East side of the Island of Hawaii, it has one runway 2-20. (That is where you land on some Hamburger runs.) (Pink marker on the 5th pic he posted) Close to a big airport Kona Intl PHKO.Hilo International Airport PHTO is the largest airport on the Island of Hawaii, located to the West North West (WNW) corner of the island;it has 2 runways 8-26 and 3-21.

Time, is the one thing no one can buy.

Can't edit previous post.Correction: Waimea-Kahola PHMU is where you land on some hamburger runs, NOT Puu Waa Waa Ranch.

Has anyone tried to head out to French Frigate Shoals? I think I might give that a shot tomorrow and see if they dropped something there.

Hi,I never tried for French Frigate Shoals but my guess is that those pictures I posted previously in this thread are at a location about as close as you get get.Jim F.

That's probably Nihoa or Necker Island, about 1/3rd and 2/3rds of the way there, respectively. Looks pretty detailed, and that gives me hope!

Hey AzureWX,I may have given you too much hope! I was at a location about the same distance from Nihoa as Niihau is. Even though a wild goose chase might be in order here I don't want to be responsible for sending you on one.Jim F.

Yes, styckx flew up to French Frigate Shoals and took some screenshots of the untextured speck of land. See this post: http://forum.avsim.n...ost__p__2288386I've been thinking since then about looking for Johnston Atoll with the Maule, but I never seem to find the time. That'll be a long trip, but I think it can get there.

Tried the OPs spot in the Icon, no problems landing and getting out, just getting turned around, since the Icon is impossible to turn on the ground. Had to taxi around for a bit to get lined up for take off :).

...And found another instance of the same landclass, same little "bush field" with the same trees. Fly radial 209 (ish) from the Hilo (ITO) VOR for 5,1nm, and it's right below you.
