Is this a sound transition strategy?

As I learn a little more about Prepar3D I am thinking why bother signing on now since, while it appears to have some real improvements over FSX, it arguably isn't offering enough to warrant moving quite yet for me and other fairly dedicated simmers. I can say I don't really have much interest in dealing w/ its inevitable growing pains, but correct me if I'm wrong: it's heading in some very positive directions and very much appears to have a bright future. If this is the case, then why not just sit back see where things go w/ Version 3 and beyond, and when it's fully rock solid and adds bunches more than fully loaded/configured FSX does, then make the jump wholesale. It all sounds very promising, yes?Noel

Hi,Because the difference (FSX / P3D) on my setup is night and day. P3D is so much smoother (even with higher graphic demands) than FSX, I have no intention of going back to FSX.

Wow, that's promising! I hope it continues to evolve well.

There has been plenty of tests to prove that P3D proves little to no benefit over FSX.

It really depends on what you are trying to do with the Sim, and what you are hoping and planning to do in the future. That being said, how about "referencing" some of these "TESTS" ???Talk is cheap.

Hi,Personally, I could care less what others have done and/or the tests they conducted on their setup/system. Nor do I have any first hand knowledge in regards to the controlled environment (or lack thereof) that was used to conduct these tests. As far as their conclusions, all that can be said is that a particular piece of software works better or worse ON THAT SETUP/SYSTEM.All I care about is my setup/system. I have seen first hand the difference between FSX and P3D on my setup/system and its night and day. I am so convinced that P3D is the way to go (for the foreseeable future), I've completely removed FSX from my SSD to my 10,000rpm drive. P3D is the only program that resides on my flightsim SSD. I have not run FSX in months and have no intention of running FSX in the future. The only tests that have any meaning to me, are the ones I've conducted myself on my setup/system. I performed these tests some time ago and the results are in, P3D out performs FSX on my setup/system and is my sim of choice.

Good thoughts. It seems if one is reasonably happy w/ FSX performance on their setup/system, perhaps there isn't a lot to gain by moving to P3D today. I think for me, this will change when P3D starts adding more than just better performance (assuming my current system performs 'adequately' which arguably it sort of does) in terms of content, future 3rd party support, and hopefully better access to modern hardware & OS features. I guess 'shader 3' support has added something in this regard. It sounds very promising, however I think for me I would be best to wait and see how much life we can see in P3D's future before abandoning FSX. I sure hope P3D has a robust future--we can all see room for improvement over what FSX can bring.

Here is a vid. I made with FSX, FPS counter at unlimited FSX maxed out but car traffic at 20%, if you can do better (smoothness + FPS) with Prepar3D I would like to see it

Have been running both sims since v 1.1 ie....for quite a while. I am unable to see any significant difference between them, outside of the GUI and slightly warmer colour tones with P3D.Out of choice I continue to run both sims so that I can divide all my scenery into two lots (their is an awful lot of it) Europe on P3D and rest of the world on FSX. This allows mw to have much quicker start up times...desktop to apron...than if I had everything within one sim only. Not into Airliners, strictly Bush/GA.So for the price of a couple of beers each month I have a more relaxed experience, to put everything in perspective.

Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

That's pretty darn smooth Alain. That's about what I see with my setup so I am pretty content at the moment. But as soon as I hear that P3D supports multi-core and latest GPU technoligy, is when I jump ship to the P3D world. They said that would take a few years but pehaps we may get lucky when version 2.0 is released. I think they have had the code for close to two years now.ClutchP.S - Those are impressive words Mike coming from you as I know you are pretty particular about your setup so to completely move on from FSX completely does say something. It can be all so subjective. FSX works great with some users - not so with others. I will say some of the new features in 1.3 do have me chomping at the bit , though. ;)
