Why would you set the engine to idle at altitude?
Why would you set the engine to idle at altitude?
Yes, generally if one is at altitude and you turn the engines off then there is a tendency for the a/c to fall out of the sky!!!!vololiberista

Really? Even if you're not a pilot it's simple common sense isn't it?Powered a/c need power to stay airborne else they become bricks with wings!vololiberista

More to the point - why does FSX have a "freeze altitude" option?Best regards,Robin.

I'm very confused about what were are trying achieve here.

You want your autopilot to: 1) hold a level altitude on short final AND 2) cut the throttles AND 3) keep the aircraft from stalling?

If this is correct, then I'm not quite sure what kind of landing you are doing. What I usually do in same situation:

on short final I'm 1) descending with a constant rate, meaning that the altitude is constantly decreasing but my vertical rate of descent stays the same AND 2) only cutting the throttles after crossing the runway threshold to keep the plane from stalling AND 3) well ... not getting into a stall :)

Is this something you are trying to achieve as I don't understand what altitude freezing means. Altitude hold maybe (wich would be odd on choice when on short final)?

Well it doesn't, and nor does FS9.

But you do get the "Resurrect the Thread from the Deep Freeze" prize... 8 months is a long time to dwell on this matter if you have been crashing every landing due to "No Freeze"!

Perhaps you have been doing it wrong, in which case the post above will sort out all your problems.

Welcome to FS9, the Hot Sim with No Freeze!
