Ground Services connected, but APU Engine Start and......

Using PMDG Tut2 as reference, as everyone has it!You start in cold and dark and then you connect ground services. then just before pushback you start APU and disconnect ground services. Its then an APU engine start during pushback.1. How would you set FScrew for this siuation.I have found that if you select APU start the FO starts the APU very early in his flow. Is there anyway you can control when he starts the APU.Also at what point in the tutorial would you press the 'start prefight' button in FScrew?regardsClive

For Tutorial # 2, you would start the Preflight at the end of page 9, or begining of page 10. If its not completely cold and dark, then after loading the Tutorial Flight load the cld/drk panel state and run Preflight. FS2Crew Preflight will take to you around page 79-80 of the PMDG tutorial # 2 when "Before Start" begins for both PMDG and FS2Crew.

Hi Clive,1) Just start with EXT/AC then start the APU before the before start procedure. The F/O will know what to do. (You have to start the APU yourself)2) The F/O follows Boeing SOP on when to start the APU3) At the beginning of the tutorial, where it says to turn on the battery switch, that's when you start FS2Crew (Click "PF")

Hi DamienWhen I'm in EXT/AC and I start the APU, my FO doesn't have a clue what to do next. The config panel still shows "EXT/AC" and the FO doesn't even turn the APU Bleed on in order to start the enginesDo I have to wait for a specific moment to turn the APU on? Normally I do it about 5 min before pushback and change the "EXT/AC" in the config panel to "APU". After the start procedure I ask the ground crew to disconnect the GPU and external air. Then I start the pushback. But I always have to change to "APU" manually.I'd would be nice to be able to speak to the ground crew before the completion of the before start procedures. In this case I could disconnect the GPU and externel air a bit earlier. Or would this not be possible in RL?RegardsAdrian Kranz

I could be wrong here but I believe the APU bleed switch is the trigger, so you have to start the APU manually then also turn on the APU bleed which will then change the "EXT/AC" to "APU" automatically.

Ok, I'll try that. Thank you!

This is not working. After completing the preflight checklist I switch the APU on, and bleeds on, but no change in the CFG panel.

Ok, what is the difference between Air Source and Air Conditioning? I know the first one can start an engine, where the second one can't. But what else?

Try EXT/AS instead. There is a bug with EXT/ AC that has been fixed for SP1 regarding the APU switch over.Cheers,
Thank you, I've tried and it works. Only remaining question is about turning on the generators. Should I do it or should the FO do it by it's own?

Hi Mateusz,You need to connect the generators. From the manual:

  • After starting engine #1 (the left engine), manually connect the left engine generator to the bus and switch the Ground Power Switch on the overhead to ‘off’.
  • Next, instruct the ground crew to disconnect external air and the GPU. Speak: “YOU CAN DISCONNECT THE EXTERNAL AIR AND GPU NOW”. Be sure to do this AFTER you have connected Engine Generator 1 to the bus or you will lose power.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I meant doing a startup after pushback of both engines, but indeed, since the procedure for the 1+1 after states you should connect manually the generator I assume that I should manually connect the APU Gens before poushback. Correct?
