ATI Anti-Aliasing Settings

Featured Replies

Before I begin, let me say that I have searched around this forum and found a bunch of posts detailing settings for ATI cards in the CCC, but there isn't a consistent option that most people use from what I can tell (ie: Nvidia users have Tab's guide in the PMDG forum). I was wondering what everyone's ATI settings were at the moment. I know it isn't the ideal card for FSX but I have one for other reasons as well (I have an Radeon HD 6700 series). What settings give the best performance, the best graphics, and the best combination of both? I'm just curious to see everyone's settings and what people are having success with. Thanks!

6950 here and I've set Catalyst Control to override application settings and generally all sliders to max or 3/4. You have to find the combination that best suits your system. Personally, I haven't found the sweet spot yet, so everyday I try a new combination. And I really don't get when people say "ATI cards aren't ideal for FSX". Maybe will have to work harder on the tweaks, but you'll eventually achieve a very satisfactory performance.

People say that the ATI cards are not ideal for FSX is due to the older shader model in FSX and I think ATI does not support the old shader model.

Upgrade to Shader Model 3. Then in CCC under AntiAlaising, set it to max AntiAlaising and Edge Detect.

But aren't the shaders only for water? Not going to help at all if you are inland most of the time or am I missing something? My 6970 ran any override AA setting with no issues. Only super high AA cause some frame rate drop.

I'm sure I've seen a posting which indicated there was a boost in the cloud textures as well !bob

I installed the Shader 3 mod and I noticed an improvement, nothing significant but at least something. I can get the AA pretty high now. One question though.Does anyone know how to get anisotropic filtering to work like on Nvida cards. I turned it all the way up in the CCC, but I get nothing like Nvidia results: This is what bad AF filtering looks like, similar to my ATI cardfsx_trilinear.jpgNvidia AFfsx_16xaf.jpg

@FSXHD For Nvidia you should follow Nicks Guide for FSX

I would suggest downloading RadeonPro and using redline's settings (maybe turn down the AA to 4x or so). They worked fantastically for me.

Yeah Radeonpro is good but it has given problems earlier, but I will use it again
