A new connection to Hawaii

Featured Replies

I found out over the weekend that a long time family friend moved to Hawaii to retire. I asked for the specific address since I have spent the past few weeks "researching" Hawaiian islands. From a Mapquest search, I found that he's just across from the Ala Wai Golf Course on the island of Oahu, situated between HNL airport and Diamond Head State Monument. I now have a personal connection to Hawaii & will think about him when I pass over his residence in Flight.6994415071_bca59b5fe7_b.jpg

With Flight I've learned more about the area and really want to visit. I wonder how many Golf courses are in the state of Hawaii. From flying around they seem to be everywhere.

Amazed to hear he gave you his address and not an aerocache for 5000xp ;-)Seriously I like buzzing around these islands too. Was there 1 time with wife and kids on Maui and had a great time

I spent a full week once in Hawaii when I was fourteen and my family was on "Home Leave." My dad worked for the FAA, but was on contract loan to the USAID program and posted to Tehran, Iran (1962 through 1969).I regret to this day that I spent nearly the entire week mooning over some silly girl I'd left behind in Tehran......especially when three months later after getting back I found out she barely remembered me. :fool:

I was a navy brat and lived on Oahu from 1953 to 1958 and then revisited more than once in the 1980's and 90's. One of my more "formative" moments was in 1957 or 1958 when my dad took me to watch stock car races at a track somewhere back of the canal and toward the mountains ( have been a junkie ever since). I have flown more than a couple of times over the area in Flight and have found no evidence of the track or stadium where those were held. I assume that the track or stadium did not survive into our century. Anyone of the older persuasion that might know of the track or stadium and the stock car races held there?

Hi Tom.. Did some research for you.. It appears Hawaii Raceway Park (the one you are speaking of) closed down in 2006 then the zoning committee rezoned the land from agricultural land to industrial land thus killing any hopes of it ever reopening. A new raceway "Kalaeloa Raceway Park" opened in 2010 to replace it but it's only about 1/3rd the size of the old park and no stock cars. All sand drags and offroad stuff.http://www.kalaeloaracewaypark.com/This isn't in the game either. The location in MS Flight is just forest. :)

No more stock car racing in Hawaii? Blasphemy I say!Being from the south, that is just sad man, sad...

Thanks for the effort on my behalf. Sad news indeed. My dad will be rolling over in his grave I am afraid.
