March 23, 201214 yr I don't know FSX, but this must be an awesome GPU for X-Plane... Is this the first PCI Express 3 graphic card ?http://developer.x-p...g-about-anyway/http://developer.x-p...ame-rates-pt-1/ I believe the ATI 7970 was the first... Cheers! Iain
March 23, 201214 yr I believe the ATI 7970 was the first...Correct. Reviews have found the PCI 3 does little and so far has been underutilized. http://www.anandtech.com/show/5261/amd-radeon-hd-7970-review/10It was found folding/computing would take advantage of PCI3 but games don't yet.BTW NewEgg is sold out again. :LMAO:
March 25, 201214 yr NewEgg had 2 in stock this evening - I got one :Money Eyes:I'll report how FSX performs once I get it.
March 26, 201214 yr Agreed Word Not Allowed - I think it will show up by Wednesday this week. I've been jotting down my FPS and smoothness experience in certain areas from NY to Seattle. I have things like Aerosoft's Manhattan and ORBX PNW installed along with numerous FSDT and other payware airports. Using PMDG 737NGX as the base aircraft. I made the purchase mostly because of the overwhelming positive response to the 580, since I already have the 480, I waited it out till now to upgrade.
March 26, 201214 yr A comparison to 480GTX would be a neat thing!Considering that it is now only 250 bucks on Newegg!!
March 30, 201214 yr Received my GTX680 yesterday. Overall this card is definitely an upgrade over my GTX480. I'm still tweaking FSX but at this moment I can't say it has dramatically improved my FSX experience. Again, this may be simple tweaking still underway but I don't want to mislead anyone. Where I do see some major differences is in Heaven2.0 benchmarks ( see results below ) and other newer games which take advantage of this newer technology. I have a feeling ( IMO ) that the real FSX benefits will not be seen until you upgrade to a PCIe3.0 motherboard and CPU.Heaven2.0GTX480 - default settings - Avg FPS - 25.8 Score 650GTX680 - default settings - Avg FPS - 41.9 Score 1056GTX480 - 8xAA - 16xAnti - Avg FPS - 16.5 Score 410GTX680 - 8xAA - 16xAnti - Avg FPS - 23.8 Score 600
March 30, 201214 yr That was much expected. A boost in everything else, but not so much in FSX. I believe you'll be able to crank up the IQ more than on the 480, without much of a performance loss and you should be seeing a little boost though.

Less? More?Try running PoolSize=0 with both cards and do a comparison, would be great! Also try UsePools=1 and RejectThreshold=131072. This MIGHT improve things with this card. I think we need someone with a SB PCI 3.0 board to test this for us, I think 4.5 GHz is bottlenecking the card a little bit. Arjen Vandervelde

March 30, 201214 yr These cards have less ROPS than Fermi's. If it's about AA, they may well perform worse than a 580, unless TXAA is really that great Received my GTX680 yesterday. March 30, 201214 yr Never really looked up ROPS. Now did in wiki. Understand quite little of it. Why are they important for AA?I'd like to see a comparison of 8xS + 4x SGSS vs TXAA in FSX.
March 30, 201214 yr Did anyone notice a difference in image quality? For example when I have FSX entirely zoomed out in the VC, the FMC of the 737 NGX shimmer a little bit, shame for all other displays. Any difference with the GTX 680? Arjen Vandervelde
March 30, 201214 yr Arjen, for that it's not the GPU responsible. The quality in this kind of thing is same from 8800GT up to GTX580. It's the driver, and the setting in it. The only new thing in the 680 is TXAA. You have to run with TXAA on, to see a difference. Just wanted to clarify.
