Virgin atlantic flight 15, right over me!

Featured Replies

Saw Virgin's midday flight to Orlando just now, it goes straight over my house, climbing out from Gatwick, you can see where it is right now! http://uk.flightaware.com/live/flight/VIR15Not sure why, I just found it quite exciting, I was on that flight in July last year, and it's always cool seeing flights and wondering where they're going. We get lots of the flights approaching both Gatwick and Heathrow so on a clear day you can see one every minute, or around that. It's great. Makes me want to be flying one of those birds, one day. :( Just wanted to post it somewhere LOL

I know exactly what you mean. When I was living in California, a rather affluent friend of mine would host a "Friday Club" party every week at his Hawaiian grotto and we'd go back and forth from the spa to the waterfall pool all night long with cold cocktails in hand playing some Alfred Apaka playlist and other Hawaiian music. Our favorite part was when it would be a very clear night to look up to the sky and see the airliners flying above asking the very same question you think of "I wonder where they're going."Imagine the ambiance of a large rock waterfall crashing water while lounging in a comfy pool, all the while looking up to see the night stars, with a big round starch white moon hovering above, illuminated palm trees catching light reflections from the water making them glimmer just like the stars above, and best of all seeing beautiful airliners decorating the sky flying above all lights lit up ready to land. It really made it a pretty awesome experience that never got old.

Sincerely,

Chase

Awesome. It does make me think of all the people in the world when you see all these planes, lots of them with over 100 people inside, going off to different places, leading different lives.

I live a few hundred yards from the end of R22 at EGOW - RAF Woodvale. It is home to the Liverpool and Manchester University Squadrons, pilots in training for the RAF.I've flown from EGOW, as freight with a PPL colleague - and now I'm flying in FSX over my own scenery of EGOW and over my own house. I often sit in the garden, wondering every time a Vigilant/Grob/Jet Provost flies over on takeoff or approach (every few minutes) how that student is doing, and where will he or she go to from here ?..and quite often my ears ###### up when I hear a sudden throttle opening due to a slight misjudgement on approach ?I'm a little too old now to take on anything new, but I often wish myself in their seats...to be part of what aviation in the near future may hold in their lives ...sigh.On some days when they appear I just cannot resist the pull of the NGX and they often tempt me to fire up FSX.I must content myself with the 737NGX and my dreams...

No major airports anywhere near me sadly, but I'll go hang out at the local bus station :LMAO:We've had this going on around us recently though (the pics aren't mine, I hasten to add)...http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=167586

I'm on the other side wishing sometimes I was over there...I see (and hear) BA and Virgin quite a bit on arrival to Newark, especially when I'm outside.

In the early 90s I had the pleasure of flying Virgin round trip from Orlando to Gatwick. It was without question the best coach flight, in both directions, I have ever had in a life time of commercial air travel! Simply marvelous!I was, however, while deplaning at both ends, put off by the way the passengers totally trashed the airplane. I never saw anything like it before or since. What a mess they left!

Yeah, I never understood that either brucets. Why do people have that feeling of entitlement to trash something that's not theirs? I always make a "clean escape" in the airplane and even the movie theater, haha.

Sincerely,

Chase

Chase -Like I said I was just shocked. It was really disgusting. All types of debris and garbage everywhere. Brits are generally my favorite people, but this had me wondering what the heck is going on here? I never saw clutter like that while visiting England, which I have done at least a dozen times. My teenage daughter even commented on it while de-planing.Back on the main thought of this thread---- my wife and I spend many summer evenings on our deck which faces west. We are pretty much on the departure path for west bound flights from KDEN. I am constantly looking up at all sorts of ac glinting in the setting sun as they climb out over the Rockies wondering and wishing--- SEA, PDX, SFO, LAX, SLC, LAS, SAN, PHX?????Bruce

You clearly haven't been to the rougher areas of London or Manchester or other cities then, LOL!That must be amazing, to have the Rockies in the distance with the flights climbing out into the sun. Awesome!

Will--No, I have not seen the seedy side of England. One night In the mid 70s myself and another guy walked from the Tower Hotel to the Prospect of Whitby in Wapping thru the deserted streets of the wharehouse district. That was a bit unnerving at the time as it was before all the recent development.I can't actually see the mountains from our deck. They are about 8-10 miles distant and there are trees and houses that block the view. All the westerly departures have to climb to over 14000 ft fairly quickly and when the sun catches them just right they look like a shooting star.Bruce

I've flown around there quite a bit on exercise. Before I became aircrew I was an LPC, so I spent many a night camped out at Carlisle airport supporting my aircraft (AAC Apache). Beautiful area and friendly folks.

Yus, London can be a little dodgy to walk around at night...!That's a shame, it'd make the view even more fantastic!
