Would you Fly FSX Differently if....

Therefore most commercial planes have anti-ice systems. And some GA planes also do.
The one thing that disappoints me with MSFS-based anti-icing systems is that they feel like they work "like magic." Just flip a switch and presto the systems are immediately running at 100% efficiency.IRL, I've always had a very healthy fear of flying anywhere near possible icing conditions - mainly because the a/c that I can fly aren't qualified to fly into such. But in the simulators, not so much. That's one reason we're looking to add an extra layer of trouble with our Hazard Pack.

Travis, I appreciate your efforts to bring simulation of icing effects to FSX in a more realistic manner and enable this simulation even for those aircraft addons that don't simulate this by themselves.Your product sounds very interesting. But I have another question:I have some aircraft addons that already simulate icing effects. Is it possible to turn off the hazard package on a per-aircraft basis?

Regards,

Tom

I can answer that for travis.yes you can turn off the hazard package.or disable some of it.ie turn off the icing and leave on the turbulence option or viceversa.this as far as i know is not aircraft specific.so if you turn it off it's OFF for all aircraft. steve-0

Tom,You can globally choose to include thunderstorm turbulence, enhanced icing, and slick surfaces for all aircraft.Further, you can declare that your a/c's anti-icing signals are INOP and the FS Captain "icing enhancements" would be negated. (Some aircraft don't set the MSFS anti-icing signals, so it's not fair to penalize users of those aircraft.)Likewise, you can opt out of dealing with slick surfaces on a more granular basis via the FS Captain "load map" option. But as of yet there's no per-aircraft option to turn off "CB bouncing." That's a good idea to mark up for a future version....

If they had been single pilot in that thing, he wouldn't have made it out.
Amazing stuff. I imagine going through that would scar you for life... You'd have the ee-be-gee bees around clouds from then on.My Dad and Brother do fly.. I got stuck in a thunder storm with my brother once in an Grumman cheetah in 1976. I still have scars on my hands from having a death grip on the bottom of the seat! It was the only time I saw my brother a little scared... He is definatly a "Wind in his hair, silk scarf, worn leather" flyer. On Topic: My eaglesoft Citation X warns of icing... the flight one mustang shows icing... and my Carenado's lose power until you hit the carb heat. It would be nice to have all three in an add on with rain effects on the windshield like the Duke has.Sounds hard... but.. that's why we pay for it right?

Thanks for the info, Travis!I see you have a demo version of FS Captain, so I'll check it out on the weekend.

That's all we could ask; it could be your cup of tea - or not - and there's no better way to tell than by trying it out. Unlicensed, FS Captain allows for unlimited flights from KSEA, KPDX and KOLM to anywhere... in any aircraft. If you have any support or "what do I do now" questions, feel free to post here or in the FS Captain support forum.I'll advise that for the first few flights, that users fly in "ferry" mode to not have to deal with loading pax or cargo. "Ferry flights" are a simple I-want-to-go-from-here-to-there flight.I'd also note that some NGX owners have found that a manual install of the FS Captain gauges (as opposed to using the auto-installer) avoids some conflicts with other gaugy add-ons.

About five months ago, FS Captain added a "Hazard package" which attempts to simulate in-flight icing and other wx-related conditions
I've never heard of FSCaptain - I'll have to try the demo. I would only be using it for GA stuff...
Yes, but it's not always possible. Or do you want your next holiday flight be cancelled just because there is a thick cloud layer in the skies? Therefore most commercial planes have anti-ice systems. And some GA planes also do.
I should have been more clear... I fly 99% GA - the only time I touch big stuff is PMDG NG. Most of the small planes I fly aren't certified for FIKI. If I was flying for real I might cancel my vacation plans if there was a lot of ice forecast...

FS Captain is primarily a career simulator, but it's also interesting for the hazard package and to have an all talk, no control co-pilot onboard that will help to warn you of any 'rules-of-the-air transgressions' that you might make.Nearly all of the optional functions can be switched off so if you don't care to be flagged for not having your landing lights on under 10000ft, or if you're taxiing too fast, that can be done, etc.

I fly it differently when I have an airplane equipped with weather radar. Smaller planes that I put in the RXP WX500 like the beautiful Carenado Super Cargomaster, but flying my favorite big iron, the PMDG 737 and 747, since it doesn't have WX, then I unfortunately do not think about ice. I do turn on anti-ice when I'm supposed to though, but I don't deviate for weather.
