April 2, 201214 yr Hi folks! After a LONG time away from the FS scene, i decided to reinstall FSX last week and get back up to speed with this hobby which has caused me so much joy (and pain) over the years. Having done my homework on the latest tweaks and such on how to get the most out of the sim (the CFG tweaker is amazing, not to mention the external FPS limiter!), i got down to the business of installation. Not just FSX, but all this too UTX USA UTX Canada UTX Alaska UTX Europe GEX North America GEX Europe Ultimate Airport Enviroment Fly Tampa St Maarten Fly Tampa Grenadines My Traffic X and Active Sky 2012 (newly bought, and i am using the textures included in this addon to largly replace FEX) and Flight Sim Commander(which goes on the 2nd monitor for a nice map view) not to mention a bunch of freeware planes from avsim and other sites total installation time was a good 4+ hours because after each install and confirmation that whatever i installed was working in FSX, i did a reboot. And the end result is aviation bliss...im getting good FPS with it all cranked on, it only gets a bit stuttery when AS2012 decides it is cloudy outside, but i think you would have to have a CRAY to make it smooth. Im really enjoying this sim again, and i wonder what others have experienced with install and having the satisfaction of it all running well... Also any tips or suggestions or questions are welcome.... Tramps like us, baby we were born to run......
April 2, 201214 yr Might want to check out AccuFeel from A2A to breathe some more life into your aircraft. Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
April 2, 201214 yr Author Oh yes i forgot Accufeel...bought that last night and thats a wonderful little addon Tramps like us, baby we were born to run......
April 2, 201214 yr Real Evironment eXtreme (REX) is also quite good and coming with a new update soon. Mogwaisoft Shade is also very good. -Damien Damien Furtman Hovering Hellion
April 3, 201214 yr You need to buy a really good airplane to go with that scenery... RealAir Turbine Duke if you want a twin, or BayTower RV7 if you want a personal sized single, of Carenado F33 Bonanza for something more luxurious. Bert
April 3, 201214 yr Moderator Im really enjoying this sim again, and i wonder what others have experienced with install and having the satisfaction of it all running well... Yeah, its really a lot of fun and can bring a lot of joy when it all comes together. My ah-ha moment in FSX came when FSDT came out with my home aiport of KDFW and I was finally able to have that airport with a ton of traffic and get great FPS unlike what I got at the stock version. I think we all love it when we have our home airports to fly from. But I was still missing my favorite a/c which was a 737 for FSX, but now that I got the PMDG version I feel I am pretty much in sim heaven. Aside from a few more key airports I am pretty much done adding on to the sim and can basically just concentrate of flying and figuring out where to fly. I'm kind of glad Flight turned out not to be something of interest for me since I finally have just about everything I want in FSX and wasn't really looking forward to starting over again. Glad to see your happy with your sim :-) Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
April 3, 201214 yr I'm kinda surprised your system can run the game well enough for you with all those addons and traffic?!! Long as you're happy, that's what matters.
April 3, 201214 yr Moderator I'm kinda surprised your system can run the game well enough for you with all those addons and traffic?!! Long as you're happy, that's what matters. Me? If your replying to me, yeah you would be surprised if you came over and saw how great my rig runs FSX with all that stuff. A friend of mine who lives in Dallas comes over once in a while to fly my sim and is utterly surprised to see me flying into JFK with loads of traffic, UT night lights turned on and still get 25 to 30 FPS in the VC of the NGX. Frankly it runs so well that its really the only reason I haven't upgraded my rig in 4 years, not to say that I wont at some point, but it performs so well that its not that necessary. However, when I am flying FSX I dont do any multitasking on the same computer like watching movies, browsing the internet or things of that nature. Plus i've I spent many hours reworking some addon sceneries that dont perform well out of the box, don't run 32bit textures or use 4096 or 32 bit cloud textures (partly for peformance and cause I dont like "sharp" looking clouds) and on and on. Basicaly a lot of work the average user doesn't do or know how to do, especially when it comes to decompliling scenery .bgls and fixing things contained in them, so for that reason its why I can go head to head with a lot of new rigs and have FSX perform just as well and look pretty much the same. Granted its a lot of work, probably more than whay the averade simmer would want to do, but now that I have combed thru FSX fixed a lot of jacked up addon sceneries, it runs smooth as a babies butt. I can only imagine when I do upgrade at some point and move a lot of my re-worked sceneries to the new rig it will run more or less like a hot knife thru butter. One of the problems with FSX and addon sceneries in general is that people buy and install but then when performance is bad they dont know how to fix it, theyu just take it as it is and roll with it. Thru some study and experimenting there's a lot of improvements that can be made using various texture tools, scenery tools (modelconverters, compilers/decompilers) and thing of that nature, that there isn't much that can't be tweaked to give great performance without sacraficing looks.
