April 6, 201214 yr Shame the frame rate hit is so harsh. Looks like mostly auto-gen but these screens are 2 different fsx.cfg; one very pimped out, the other set to about high on most. Obviously best to open each in a window and quickly switch between the 2 to see the differences.
April 6, 201214 yr Commercial Member Forget about framerates. They are a waste of time and energy. Just get the sim tweaked where it runs smooth and you will be alot happier. Regards, Dave Opper HiFi Support Manager
April 6, 201214 yr As above, chasing FPS is an exercise in frustration. There are too many variables at play with FSX that effect frame rates and you will just end up chasing your tail. Bryan.
April 6, 201214 yr It's a valuable tool. To dismiss it as "chasing framerates" is oversimplifying its purpose. Yes, actually obsessing over framerates is a waste of time, but ignoring the FR counter while working out the give and take regarding sliders, features, addons, etc is like holding your finger in the air as a tornado warning device instead of monitoring doppler radar. As far as "visuals worth the frame rate", I say no. In my opinion nothing is worth frame rates that low. It may "fly smooth" at 11 FPS, but tell me, how about view panning? Dreadful isn't it? August 21, 201213 yr Hello I came from an E8600 @ 4.0 to an I5 2500K @ 4.6 and the jump in frames was amazing, The NGX runs smooth as silk and I doubt that I will build another machine now for a good few years. For the first time in many years the hobby has finally stopped costing me a fortune.

For the first time in many years the hobby has finally stopped costing me a fortune. I so agree. Thats cause...there is no new FSX coming out. Now, we have only the FSX and we can accumulate Addons and at each new CPU, FSX gets better and better. When I went from FS9 to FSX, I was bummed that my addons..scenery in particular would not work in FSX. and that I had to rebuild my inventory for FSX from scratch. Imagine if a FSX11 came out now and voided all my addons.... sheesh! :P Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

Bologna! ^_^ How else can one measure performance increase/decrease? A more accurate thing to say, IMO, is "don't fixate on framerates". Get within an acceptable personal goal and then stop monitoring it too frequently. Every time I'm tempted to buy a new system, I just look back at my OP here. Amazing to think how even the absolute fastest systems in here STILL can't hold a min. of 20fps maxed out, in all conditions with the dozen popular addons. Since when? I know UT2, UTX, and GEX look and run great on my rig. Never under 23FPS (that's my record minimum) in the NGX at FSDT Airports with 100% traffic, road traffic, very dense autogen, extremely dense scenery, 2xhigh water, and every other slider MAXED. Very fluid, and my sim is pretty with all of the bells and whistles. 90% of the time I'm at my Nvidia FPS limit of 30FPS. By the way, I ran a rig very, very similar to yours. It was overclocked to 4.2GHz at 1.34v. It did not appease me in regards to FSX performance, so an i7 960 rig at 4.5GHz was my next upgrade. The difference was night and day... From the latter rig to my current one, the difference was very noticeable. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
