Cannot Un-install FS9 in Windows 7

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm trying to uninstall FS9 from the Control Panel in Windows 7 64 bit, but I'm not getting the correct menu that pops up. When I click on Uninstall, this is message that comes up:

This Program will uninstall WestWind CRJ-200LR from you hard drive.

What's the problem?

Ken.

Just a quick thought...

Are you using the "uninstaller" option included in the FS 2004 Installation Disk?

Insert FS 2004, Disk 1, and follow the instructions to uninstall the program. (The safest way!).

I've tried that but the uninstall screen does not come up. The install screen comse up instead. I've even used the Uninstall.exe in the root folder and it does the same thing. What I don't understand is why the message is wrong when I try to uninstall it. That's what the problem is. When selecting the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 in the Control Panel and click Uninstall, it should say, "This Program will remove Flight Simulator 2004," not "This prgram will remove WestWind CJ700LR." That's what I don't understand. I see why everyone is saying not to install FS programs in the Program Files 86 folder. I also tried to uninstall the PMDG 737NG using the PMDG Uninstall 737 Utility and it would not uninstall it.

Ken.

Hi In your flightsim folder how many fs9exe do you have?

Somehow youer resgisty got screwed up. Reinstall FS9 from the CD and then uninstall either from CD or control panel. Then reboot.

Ken, I believe I may know what is causing this problem. When you installed an add-on aircraft (A WestWind CRJ-200LR), the installer for that aircraft overwrote the FS2004 UNINSTAL.EXE with an UNINSTAL.EXE for that aircraft.

The FS2004 UNINSTAL.EXE I have is 4.15 MB in size, last modified 10/12/2004.

Hi Frisky57,

I think you may be correct. It seems like I installed this aircraft but I'm not for sure. Apperantly, I must have. I tried to look for the WestWind CRJ-200 in the Aircraft Folder and it wasn't there. What I was going to do is try to un-install the WestWind but I couldn't find it. My brother had a strange issue. When he tried to uninstall an aircraft add-on, it unstalled FS9 enstead. I can't see how something like this can happen. Anyway, the only thing I could do is to delete the FS9 Folder in Windows Explorer, but this is not the way to do it because it doesn't uninstall it. I didn't know anything else I could do. But I created a new folder and named it FS9 and installed Flight Simulator 2004 into that folder. But I ran CCRegistry Clean before I did that. If this is what happened, how do I correct the problem?

It usually happens because of bad practice by some developers who don't know how to create an installer.

Yes, That's one of the things I thought of. I guess I should report this to the website where I downloaded the WestWind?

You could, but I suspect it would be a waste of your time.

You didn't, by any chance, uninstall FSX at any time did you?

That will stuff up the registry entries for FS9.
