PMDG 737. What a great buy! and Value

Featured Replies

I purchased the B737-600/700 a while back and was delighted with the quality but disapointed in the fps to say I dont even have a slow computer.Since PMDG have released the 800/900, I feel slighty angered that this so called "new" product should have been a patch to the first/overall B737 package and therefore I regard the release of the 600/700 version as a quick release by PMDG to start earning money while they complete the rest of the package. I am not moaning that I should get the 800/900 for free, infact I don't even want it because I still need to use my computer while all this quality is available, I just think it should be a patch. After all, why aren't the new improved gauges being offered to existing customers as a patch, since they are improved?Although I know some people are happy with this product, I, on the other hand am not and therefore I am not paying another $22.95 for a patch - I'll save that money for the FS2006 patch that is to come ;)Just my 2 cents!

Well, Like I said, I think the 800/900 should have been a stand alone for the same $35 - $40 with the $22 upgrade price offerred to customers who already had the 600/700.That way, everyone would have been satisfied.1. The people who just want the 800/900 will pay just $40 for it.2. The people who want all four, will obviously buy the 600/700, then get the 800/900 discount thereby paying the $62. That said, I will again say that the $62 is a really great value for what you get in terms of systems modelled and also in terms of customer support. Also, a lot of people fail to realise one other thing here: There is no piracy protection measures whatsoever in the PMDG737 series. You buy it, you get a download link in an email, and you install. There are no registration codes, no piracy gimmicks. Naturally, some will take advantage of this and send the install file to their friends. I'm sure PMDG has taken that into account when determining the price. Had there been registration codes to send in, etc. I'm sure the price would have been cheaper. So you get great value, great customer service and hassle free installations. Tell me that ain't worth $62.On the other hand, I would of course be hard pressed to fork over $62 in one shot just to get the 800/900 which is what I really want (putting myself in the shoes of the non 700/800 customer). So I can understand the angst of some here. I will not call them "whingers".

All,it has always been stated quite clearly from PMDG that the 800/900 was an "add-on" which means additional cost. I paid hard earned money for the NG and was very happy with the product. Incidently that product did have 3 patches to it which fixed any issues that customers were having. I had a crappy little laptop initially using FS2002 which was getting pretty good frame rates (18-20) for what it was. Those of you complaining about frame rates...you must have a lot of stuff on your PC running in the background, or taking up memory, if my laptop could achieve those FPS.I'm now running a P4 2.8 1gb ram Radeon 9800 pro with HUGE FPS and FS9 and the new 800/900 and have no issues. The "ADD-ON" is well worth the additional money IMO. I didn't think the 737NG could get more "real" until testing the 800/900.Those of you who can't afford it, but really, really want it??? SAVE!

That some people may pirate it we other shouldn

HiIt's incredible how some people can say that the 800/900 are only streched versions from the others! You think that it's only the model, right? If so, just don't tell things you don't know about!!! Be informed first!Sorry if I'm wrong, but I thought to see elsewhere that they would implement some of the improvements in a stand alone patch, for those that want to keep only the 600/700. I maybe wrong. if is that the case I ask to PMDG to not offer the TCAS on that update, because THEN, I might think things are unffair for those like me paid for the evolution/revolution!!And to those that don't know the PMDG737, and think that PMDG Express B1900 as some bases to evaluate PMDG work, you too, don't know what are talking about! They simply cannot be compared!! Completly different product line!In final: If you are not prepare to evalute how much it's worth a programmer job, simply don't compare what you haven't see.If they asked me to pay another $40, I'll do it. And I can't wait the 747!!Another 2 cents.MiguelPS: Still nobody told me how much it spent last month on tabaco!

All you whiners out there. Get a life, deal with it. If you don't agree with paying the extra $23...DON'T. It's as simple as that. I purchased the 800/900 and I'm happy as a PIG IN S__T!!!!!....LMAO! Do us all a favour and stop your complaining.OK, I'm done...Off to jump into my brand new PMDG 737 900...Enjoy your 600/700....Tom

Hey Tom, I don't agree with paying another $23 and I haven't - what's your point? That we're whiners? I don't think so, and I think we can deal with it just fine. Get a life? Now, who's the one paying $63 to fly a virtual airplane? Sure, what's a few bucks here and there on a hobby we all love and share, but we all have the right to be surprised, dissapointed even outraged at the cost of something that is being offered as a special-one-off upgrade to existing customers for a short time only! I'd love to get it but it's the principle of the matter...Happy flying...Best RegardsBoone,[email protected]"Flying a plane is no different from riding a bicycle. It's just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes."

So, will the BBJ be offered as a stand-alone? I could go for one of those...

>Get a life? Now, who's the one paying $63 to fly a virtual airplane?:-lol :-lol :-lol Exactly!

One thing that often fails to get mentioned in price war arguments in geographic and socio-economic status. American dollars vary wildly even IN the US. I live in an expensive area of the country, and I make adequate compensation that is generally dictated by demand. For example, doing what I do in India would probably pay dollars or pennies a day, whereas living in New England generally means I make more in 1 hour than many people in many parts of the world make in a day, or even a week. Although everyone has a birth right to express their concern, I don't fault the company because they to have to provide for their existence. While I don't have money flying out of my pockets, I feel that it was enough of value for me to justify paying that price for it. For someone who does not have as much disposable income (if there really is such a thing :) it can be a frustrating limitation. You can't blame Ferrari for charging $120k for a car because you work at McDonalds.Software pricing has always been a difficult commodity to quantify. Development costs, insurance, corporate fees, and other factors can influence price point, but sometimes it seems very arbitrary. I used to work for a large game developer, and there was a very justifiable reason to charge $50. Development costs could be upwards of a million dollars. Depending on the publisher, distributor, and distribution channels, you could easily spend $2,000,000 before you saw a dime. Now figure corporate taxes are in the high 30% range. You basically have to sell 70 thousand copies to break even. X-BOX games, even a decent one, will sell that easily. PC games are lucky to sell over 30,000- with off-the wall success being 200,000. No wonder PC developers are leary of niche markets. Now, these guys may only sell a few hundred copies- so this price might very well be justified. There is too much time and effort into this for them, and obviously there are costs involved. One thing people take for granted as well is opportunity cost. Free time, as we know, is not free. The guys who spend 800+ hours developing add-ons for us could very well have spent their time traveling the world, improving their golf game, or competing in triathalons (not to imply you couldn't do those things as well- just not as much). Just something to think about, I'm not defending or attacking any particular position on this matter.

"Get a life? Now, who's the one paying $63 to fly a virtual airplane?"Boone,Actually, I have a great life, thank you and I'm enjoying my PMDG 737 800/900. It's worth every penny. It's my right to stand in awe of this fine piece of software and as you say, you have every right to express your feelings on this subject, as you see fit. My apologies for the "whiner" remark directed at a few in this forum. I see you own the 600/700 as well. Just curious, you thought enough of the product to purchase it at $40, which I personally thought was kind of high at the time, but again, turned out to be well worth the price to me, after using it. I'm sure you felt the same way. So, to each his own. It's just my opinion, but I feel the upgrade price is fair considering the obvious long hours and technical knowhow that went into improving the addon for the enjoyment of the customers. Anyway, looks like this thread is really starting to become a war of words...LOL, so this will be my last post on this subject. Regards,Tom

"That way, everyone would have been satisfied."Dream on!!! No way will this debate ever be satisfactorily addressed so that everyone will be happy. It just ain't gonna happen.Personally, I could care less what a any vendor charges for any product. If I decide the value(usefulness/enjoyment) of the item exceeds the cost, and I want it -- done deal. If it doesn't -- no deal. The entire evaluation process takes less than 5 minutes, then I get on with my life. ;)And before anyone shoots back whether I'm flying the newest PMDG offering, the answer is no. But the reason has nothing to do with the quality or price. I don't fly any of the big birds except on very rare occasions, and so am not interested in the level of detail and learning necessary to properly fly any type of heavy. So it failed the "and I want it" criteria. On another note, I must admit reading the myriad comments, pro and con, has been quite entertaining. Reminds me of some of the I/T product marketing meetings I have chaired in the past. Some folks really need to get a life. Reading "Marketing for Dummies" might help as well. Get it at your local library so there will not be a discussion about the price. :) :)-------------------Racartronit means something, but I just can't remember what

Simple as, the 800/900 kicks serious ####. It can NOT be beaten in the terms of advanced airline packages. Also, the 800/900 is not just different in length, it also has some different elements to the pneumatics, it's not much, but coupled with everything else now available in this one its SERIOUSLY worth it. If any of the people whinning about price who own the 600/700 were able to try the 800/900, they may still whine about price...but it doesn't mean they wouldn't buy it. The Atmosphere has just been generally improved a metric s_it load! I agree, some of these additions should be made to the 700 free of charge, but I would of still bought the 800/900 even if they were made free of charge to the 600/700, to the fact the 737 is basically the only thing I fly now. the Dreamfleet 737 packages will be added when they are released, and pritty much anything pmdg decides to make next. I am 15 years old, and I am not one of the people who has their mum and dad pay for everything. Infact, they refuse past about anything. If i want something, I buy it, and coupled with my other expensive hobby which has cost me

There's almost>nothing that you can do in the real 737NG that you can't do>with the PMDG model. I really find it very amusing that often the same people (often the developers themselves) that write sentences like this BEFORE you buy add-on XYZ will tell you "what do you expect from a 40$-add-on, you can

Is the PMDG 737-800/900 going to be available as a standalone product, like the -600/700 is? I want this plane so bad, but Im not willing to pay $62.00 for the -800. I have no doubt about the top notch product, but offer it at $39.95. I'll bet a lot of people are going to jump on it. PMDG should reconcider their pricing structure. Give it to me for $40... thats all I ask...EdPS I'll probably end up liking it so much, that I'll buy the -600/700 for another $22. Hey they still get my 62 bucks...
