January 24, 200521 yr To wait 1 year and over, without flying to Kai Tak,is too much for me.so i continue to search these aerial photos.
January 24, 200521 yr Ciao Luca,as I said I have the scenery uninstalled since about a year so I cannot check it anymore, but I remember that I had framerates between 15 and 18.Re a new version of Kai Tak see Thomas Kwongs response (#3)in this thread:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchI will wait for it as Thomas' sceneries are excellent. Also Samsoft is preparing a new Hong Kong scenery but they did not know yet if they will include VHHX or not (email about 3 months ago).PeterIntel Mobo D875PBZ with Intel CPU P4 3.20GHz2.0 Gig 333MHz DDR SDRAMAsus / NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 (Omega 1.6177) (Q) (256 MB)Monitor Samsung SyncMaster 19"CH Yoke and PedalsWindows XP SP2
January 24, 200521 yr Sorry, forgot to mention that I got those framerates in FS9.PeterIntel Mobo D875PBZ with Intel CPU P4 3.20GHz2.0 Gig 333MHz DDR SDRAMAsus / NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 (Omega 1.6177) (Q) (256 MB)Monitor Samsung SyncMaster 19"CH Yoke and PedalsWindows XP SP2
January 24, 200521 yr Well...!! Glad to have stirred-up a little interest again in the wonderful Kai Tak airport!! After my previous post yesterday, asking if anyone had a decent AFCAD for the HK2004 scenery, and reading through the links off from this thread, I tried the suggestion from that Pete fellow, whereby you place one copy of the AFCAD into the Addon Scenery folder, and a copy of the same into the SceneryWorldScenery folder...well....blimey!! It works!! My AI were now pretty much where they should be, rather than playing submarines!!I used AFCAD 2 programme to then lock-on to FS9 and rearrange the parking and taxiing positions - jeez, FlightSoft moved the airport quite a distance to the right (looking down Rwy 13 towards open sea!!)Anyway, I've now got AI that sit almost correctly on the tarmac and at the gates (the wheels are still buried, but I can live with that!!), and tha now have taxi-ways that don't lead them out over water!!If anyone wants a copy, let me know here, and I'll be happy to email the AFCAD to you.....I now just need to build-up a better set of flight plans (I just rearranged a few flights to VHHH to land and take-off from Kai Tak instead!!).
January 25, 200521 yr Roger Mole's vhhx4v1.zip contains VHHX AI flightplans. Look for the TTools.txt file in the TTools folder. It's meant for his VHHX scenery but works certainly also with any other VHHX scenery.Peter
January 25, 200521 yr Hello Yarvelling,Glad to read that you managed in getting a more or less acceptable "adventure" of old Kai Tak, be it after some artificial tricks you had to figure out. However, this doesn't take away that anno 2005 we still have not a package to remember this unique and illustrious approach of rwy 13 at old KaiTak and I mean a software-package, being adapted to the features of MSFS 2004, the new high performance CPU's and the bulk of memory available at present. And when I read the different reactions in this aspect, I wonder if we will ever get this in future....Cheers,
January 25, 200521 yr Well i think the ultimate Kai Tak dream would be for Fly Tampa to do it.Given the incredible FPS these guys get out of big airports like KSFO,KMIA and the awesome Dubai these guys would do the ultimate version. Now if we could only convince them how many they would sell if they did.We can always dream of Kai Tak at 25FPS!!SeeyaDarren
January 25, 200521 yr Yes Darren, the entire Kai Tak approach to rwy 13 showing not less than 25 FPS. I fear your dream will amount to be an Utopia....However, why not contact Fly Tampa to explain the matter and await their reaction? They can check the entire thread over here at AVSIM to get the impression it's worth while to bring out that software package for FS9.
January 25, 200521 yr hey guys, what do u think about?we could:1. make a poll to know if and how many people appreciate a new kai tak scenery (this can be useful for the next phase);2. contact one or more developer, show them this thread and the poll, and see what they think about (not only FlyTampa, but also Andras Kozma,Cloud9,Simwings,Simflyers,Gary Summons... );3. contact all free kai tak developers, such as Roger Mole or Thomas Kwong, and investigate the possibilities to have photos of airport and downtown,to give to developers.for the big airport of the story,a big work from professional developers and enthusiast together...Luca
January 25, 200521 yr I don't buy a lot of payware stuff, but I would definitely buy a good Kai Tak.KP
January 25, 200521 yr I second that! And yes Luca, let's start up a poll and having finished that take action as indicated under your sub 2 and 3. Good idea! If we do nothing, we will get nothing, I fear.
January 25, 200521 yr Luca,When I first tried Roger Mole's Kai Tak and found poor FPS I did email him to see if he had any suggestions and if he was working on completing the scenery and didn't get a reply.Thomas Kwong has already stated his position on Kai Tak I understand. So an email to Roger I fear will get zero response and I suspect an email to Thomas will only confirm what I'm sure he already knows, that lots of us appreciated his Kai Tak for previous versions of FS and would like to see a version for FS9.I think Thomas is in college so dependant on where he is in his course he may not have as much free time as he used to have.It would be interesting to see if FlyTampa would consider doing Kai Tak though but I wonder if the possibility of a new version of FS being released this year would make commercial developers hold off until then?
January 25, 200521 yr I think Vulcan's view at this matter makes sense. There could be still another possibility: to start up a poll like Luca proposed and lay down the result at the MSFS-designer's team with our request to re-incorporate the approach to old Kai Tak "as it was" in their next version of flightsimulator. How about that?
January 25, 200521 yr i agree with you considering all the obstacles, but Paddy say "If we do nothing, we will get nothing".so,i suggest to start a poll, and the ask to FlyTampa. Cloud9 guys yet tell me that Hong Kong was not in their future, and, eventually, the absence of the airport will be a big obstacles in collecting photos.roger mole:ok for his zero reply (to me too),however i could send him an email regarding original photos.instaead, i could not consider FS team:i think they will never do a detailed scenery of Kai Tak as default...no no,impossible.considering my basic english,it's better if one of you start the poll ;)Luca
January 26, 200521 yr Having just installed Thomas Kwongs' brilliant CLK over the awful FlightSoft attempt... I severely hope that he does get a chance to update/redo Kai tak...the levels of detail with high fps in CLK are amazing; this guy knows his stuff!! :)Given the current lack of any competition, I'll keep the FlightSoft Kai Tak...it is bright, lively, and does look very much like Hong Kong, although flying in over Kowloon hits fps something rotten!! This scenery has not been optimised in any way! Shame really, because with a bit more development work to bring it upto FS9 standards, and a bit of polish, it could have been really good...the potential is there! So, how 'bout it Thomas?? After what, four years maybe, And there's still no 'really' good Kai Tak available, please work your magic!!Kai Tak is such an important airport to many of us...and like the Concorde, it may be gone...but it's never fogotten!!
