Flight interest dwindling...too bad

Featured Replies

To play devils advocate, here is an argument why MSF is being so quite about its intentions. Even if people get mad about the way MSF is being rolled out, who cares since these people are not going anywhere else. As soon as MSF flight releases DLC for items these people were hopping for they will be right back onboard the MSF bandwagon and making purchases. There is no real competition that MSF risks loosing customers to on a permananent basis if they ###### them off. Further, MSF should not do or say anything that might uncessearaily harm the current FSX ecosystem, that might cause people to stop investing in FSX and hold their dollars to wait for MSF, as this may harm or put out of buisness third-party developers that MSF will be relying on down the road.

I really hope (mainly for them) that MS don't agree with your vision.

It's very ingenous to think, in these days, that there are no competition for a product like Flight. That could be (almost) true for the old series, but nowadays casual players have tons of option for funny relaxing game (Plants vs Zombies is much higher than Flight in the Steam list Big%20Grin.gif ).

And if you restrict to flight sim/games, you have X-P, P3D, DCS, IL-2, World of Planes, ROF and others, all more complete than Flight at present. Just for an example, with IL-2 1946 you can have for a very cheap price countless WWII warbirds, with a lot of maps, mods, campaigns and working guns.

If, after two days after the latest DLC release, Flight is almost disappeared by the first 100 Steam most played games there are clearly some problems with your analysis, don't you think?

The people that I was talking about in my devil's advocate piece are not the casual gamers but the people who want more of a simulator and are mad at MSF because of the casual nature of MSF and lack of any firm communication by MSF that it desires to add simulation DLC down the road.

Yes, and your comments are disturbingly reasonable.

Just for that reason I cited several titles that are more suitable than Flight for people that like a simulator (both civil and military). And many of them are actively developed, so they are truly competitive with the latest MS offer, quite weak and slow until now.

i got bored of flight also and went back to fs9, fsx and soon x-plane 10. bye bye flight, it was a pleasure knowing you, lol.

No surprise with flight. Flight a joke selling planes with no cockpit unacceptable they not listening to casual or regular simmers. Flight wont last a year from now. Have to fire Josh Howard its oblivous hes not listening.

There are smaller software makers with piggy banks budgets like scs software making European Truck Simulator 2 that spent 3 years building realistic trucks with dashboards and interiors. In addition, 3 years spent building simpified map of Western Europe hauling goods across real roads. Xplane phyiscs and autogenerated scenery and road vfr are innovations. Xplane has remote control RC and mars to fly and phyics far suprior to fsx and its software alot easier to install than FSX is. Its willing to push ideas MS flight will not last as stated uf changes are not made quickly.

he little problem for MS is that, on one of the major general gaming website

Same thing on the MS Flight Facebook page. When Flight was released it had something like 10,500 fans or so-- and now just has over 11,000 fans. Not stellar by any means.

Well I have always liked microsofts flight sims and while my daughter and I where building our monster new kitchen computer , we talked about how good it would to play flight sim x with everything turned on to high .

Then I heard about flight and could not wait . The grapics would be so much better and it was just going to be nice.

While I like flight for what it is and the grapics , but to nickle and dime me for planes and flying area . Then give me planes that I can not sit in the front seat and look at my panels.

What made flight sim x and the versions before it was simple that I had the choice on how hard to make it . I could just jump in a plane and fly or plot my flight and fly just like I was it a real plane.

I might pay for flight but will wait a few months and just do the free play for a while .

I had the exact same thoughts as you. But I'm glad I finally got the maule and hawaii, it really opened up for me and gives a much better feel than the limited free area. Now I'll be interested to buy more if/when they add more depth.

Indeed! I can imagine someone getting fed up with the game quickly if you only have the free version. The big island is quite boring and while the Stearman is okay, the Icon is an odd bird. However, the other islands look great, have far more detail and the Maule and RV-6A enable you to actually 'sim' a bit!

Come to think of it: I usually fly on and between the DLC islands with the Maule and RV-6A...! I hardly touch the Stearman and don't visit the big island (the Icon I can do without). So a lot of conversations I had with people who only have the free version were a bit useless (not the right word but I can't think of another...) because we were talking about different things...!

I quote you.

Agreed, except that I seem to not like X-plane 10, I went back to FSX.

It seems cruel that the customers / fans (one way or the other) get the short end of the stick. Customers spend the money for the game / sim. Some just deal with the disappointment having wasted money, some engage in heated debates regarding their opinions; however, they are ultimately ignored by the developers. On the other hand, the fans that like it, sit waiting months for the next “small” update (or teaser) to keep them desperately holding on to a dev team who “seemingly” has no interest in fulfilling their fans “basic” needs. Is a VC with every plane really that hard…really?

Meanwhile, somebody is making millions.

The last six months has been a disappointment for two releases that have fell short of the expectations of many fans. Be it selling an $80 beta marketed as a full release with more bugs than the Florida Everglades, or once offering the world and now justifying an island with a lifetime of retail exploitation called DLC, there has been a blatant attack on the intelligence of consumers. However, there are fans who will argue to defend these marketing strategies, developers, and their games.

Meanwhile, somebody is making millions.

I think people will eventually lose interest in Flight because the interests between the developers and customers no longer complement each other. While MS nickel and dime fans for every piece of the puzzle that they (MS) offered in FSX., MS will make millions and the fans will be left with the short end of the stick…getting nothing for their money, wanting what was once commonplace in a MS product, and being ignored.

How could someone make millions if no one supposedly likes the product?

Why is anyone doomed to a life of buying DLC they don't want?

If there is a market for a good sim, someone would fill it and make their millions.

As I read these endless posts portraying themselves a victims of an evil corporate scheme, I have this image of people throwing themselves down on the ground and howling in mock pain like some soccer player hoping for a card on his opponent.

I like Flight, I like FSX, and I use both. I will only buy DLC for Flight if it interests me. I have sent my thoughts about the product to Microsoft, because after all, they write the software.

This is not the sim that many of us were looking for. That doesn't stop it from being fun, realistic and challenging. Who knows what will happen as new DLC becomes available. I'll let them surprise me and convince me to spend money.

Let's give it some time.

Just how much time? A month, 3, 6? a year?

It's a flop. I reckon in 6 months time it might even be withdrawn or at best gathering dust under the shop counter.

This thread is absolutely hilarious!

I wish I had the fortune telling skills of the people in this thread. In fact I think a poll is in order:

"What is your method of foretelling the DOOOOOM of MS Flight?"

1) Crystal Ball

2) Tarot Cards

3) Tea Leaves

4) Aliens transmitting via radio waves picked up by your fillings

5) Stolen internal MS documents outlining their financial goals versus their current sales performance
