Aerosoft 'Diamond Katana....'

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone,

About a year ago I purchased the diamond Katana 4X from Aerosoft.

At the time it was version 1.00 and it had some issues. In the mean time The aircraft has been updated to version 1.03a.

However updated, I still can't run it.

After I install the lasted version (freshly downloaded) as administrator, I still can't run the aircraft. Everytime I select the Katana from the menu, it loads but it shuts down FSx almost immediately after loading.

I read the forums over at aerosoft and found a few threads concerning the RXP430 GPS but even after following the guidelines presented there, I still can't run the aircraft. (slashing out the RXP gps line in the panel.cfg doesn't seem to help)

I do have the RXP430 GPS installed on my system but I didn't add it to the katana yet.

Is there anyone with some other ideas to get this bird running?

All help appreciated

Luc,

I do have the Katana 'flying' but I also have difficulties whence it gets up in the air. Without touching the yoke or the pedals, the virtual yoke starts shaking like crazy and the airplane banks to the left and crashes. Since I now this behavior I roll the plane to the right when it gets airborne. I then am able to keep climbing and eventually I can make a more or less normal flight, however the plane keeps drifting to the left and needs constant corrections. I put this problem on the aerosoft forum, but no response. I also bought the RadioStackX package, but couldn't get that to run on my iPad 3 (it ran à couple of times on my iPad 2 with a lot of effort beforehand). I put that problem also on the aerosoft forum with the same amount of response (none). I now have HD Radio running instead without any problems. I don't think I will be buying another Aerosoft product in the future, mainly because their ominous lack of support.

Theo.

haha, hahahaaaa, haaaa!!...Aerosoft and poor support does NOT go in the same sentence. That is utter rubbish.

Keeps flying to the left...trim tabs..read the manual yeh?..good idea! (Hint : can ONLY be adjusted when the aircraft is on the ground and engine off.)

Shaking like mad : have you checked to make sure there is no damage to the controll surfaces?..This is modelled.

As for it crashing to desktop, i have no idea.Make a post of your own explaing the problems and you will get a response from Aerosoft.

Hi Luc,

In asmuch as you haven't yet added RXP instruments to your Katana, make the following small addition to your Katana's "panel.cfg" file, and this will resolve the condition you describe:

In the [Vcockpit00] section of your panel.cfg file, add two forward slashes immediately before the line beginning "gauge47=rxp..." The line should read as follows:

//gauge47=rxpGNS!GNS530, 1245, 1140, 790, 570

You will be good to go upon making this small modification to the file.

Why AS hasn't addressed this often inquired about issue is bewildering for sure. I too have the AS Katana, and have made the panel.cfg file modification so that the airplane works wonderfully for me (and it is absolutely a terrific model). However, had I instead been a prospective AS Katana purchaser having read your initial post and unaware of the .cfg file fix, I would otherwise stay away from the AS Katana for sure. Nonetheless, make the 15 second file modification and, once again, you will be good to go!

I flew everytime with the option 'brand new' (or something like that, it's been a while now). So there will be no damage to the plane whatsoever. The shaking (and veering to the left) only occurs during the initial climb, not in normal flight. If the plane should have some damage, the problem(s) would persist. I have bought two aerosoft products sofar, had problems with both products, put both problems on the aerosoft forum and both had answers along the line 'no problems here'. If that is your opinion of good support, that's fine with me, sofar I have a different experience. On the aerosoft forum is a separate entry for the Katana with almost 400 entries. Hardly what you can call à troublefree airplane.

On the problems with the systems. Have you tried using the reset.exe in Aerosoft\Diamond DA20-100 Katana 4X? Run it as admin.

Do you get the shaking and veering when you use the plane in the simple mode? Just means that all system failures aren't modelled at all so they can't interfere Maybe try a flight in that mode to check.

On the problem with the RXP panel.cfg entry. I'm running a RXP unit in the Katana. I saw that some folks using the default GPS had trouble with the RXP entry though, but I don't know if this is a general flaw or some system dependant thingy. I think the Katana dev was waiting for some reply from RXP on this one.

Rusty,

thanks for the info (and the bumping...)

In my original post I was referring to the solution you mentionned in your answer. However, that solution doesn't work for me.

At least not to the extend that I can start flying. Without the slashes, The plane only loads halfway through before FSX is ended. With the slashes in place, the plane loads just fine and at the moment the cockpit shows, fsx is ended.

So my guess is that, besides the problem with the gps, there is still some other item I am missing.

I read the manual but I can't find anything in there that points in the direction of the failure I am getting.

As CoolP suggested, try the reset. Also, and this may be a long shot, but try running the aircraft in simple mode. If it is run in advanced mode and you have done some damage on a previous flight, it will carry that damage with it until repaired. If it runs in simple mode, each time you load the aircraft it will be in top flyable condition. Sorry if I'm trying to teach my grandmother to suck eggs, but thought I'd mention it.

I checked my settings, they are: operation mode - simple, initiation mode - automatic, controls - proplever (fsuipc) & flaplever realistic, avionics - com/nav simple & transpond. simple. After take-off the problem was still persistent. I closed FSX and ran reset.exe als administrator and selected remove all data. After starting FSX, selecting the Katana and with shift-3 going to the settings I again set those to the ones mentioned above. This time after take-off the plane acted NORMAL!!! I flew for à little bit in utter amazement. Now I can finish the plans I had for this plane (preparing for my club a VFR around the Netherlands with a map on the knees).

I suppose the tric with reset.exe is somwhere in the manual, but I never came around to that option because it misbehaved as described the moment I installed it. Thanks for the tip (I still wonder why no one at the aerosoft forum came with that tip).

Happy flying,

Theo.

Well done

That's great news, Theo. Would have been a shame if you had to leave the Katana out of your GA flying plans.

Thanks for the tip (I still wonder why no one at the aerosoft forum came with that tip).

I think the reset.exe came with a later patch, so the introduction manual doesn't name it. But I think the aerosoft forums actually do in some threads. Or Marcel himself pointed the tool out on some occasions. However, the important part is the fact that you can now use her as you've planned, right?

Well,

I certainly leave the Katana in the hangar.

Not because I want to but because I have to.

The plane refuses to load, whatever I try, whatever solution is offered by the guys at Aerosoft.

I have flown it when I came out and that convinced me that I made a good buy.

But now, after several reinstalls, modification of the panel.cfg, and all the other suggestions that were made in the last couple of days I can only send it to the scrapyard...

A shame but nonetheless true.

If you have a problem that Aerosoft cannot remedy then the product is worthless, in that case I suggest you ask for a refund.

Man, that's strange. I also had a problem with RXP gauge crashing my FSX but after I commented out that line all is good.

If you reinstalled it several times and you always get the same error than there must be some files left on your computer after uninstallation and those could cause your sim to crash but why, that's beyond me since it appears like you are the only one with this problem. If I ever learned anything about software is that if you're the only one with a problem than you're the one that caused it and not the "faulty" software. Of course, there are always exceptions..
