May 5, 201214 yr Rafal this may work for you as well BTW please back up your files before any of these changes so you can go back to the way you were prior to them. First off I assume you have AA and AF set on your XFX Radeon HD 6950 2GB video card? Ok try these settings in your FS9.CFG Change these 2 lines to be like below: TEXTURE_BLDG=3 TEXTURE_GND=5 Add these lines to the same section (GRAPHICS) FORCEFULLSCREENVSYNC=1 ForceWindowedVSync=1 HIGHMEMFIX=1 SHADER_CACHE_VERSION=1 STALE_BUFFER_THRESHOLD=2147483647 Try changing your line that reads Trilinear=1 to Bilinear=1 as I've heard that as far as the sim goes one can't tell difference when looking at it - not trying to start another setting war guys just giving suggestions. Also in your (GRAPHICS) section try changing the value of TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD to be (since you have a 2GB video card - Rafal you would have to set this to TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1048576 as you are using a 1GB video card. TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=2097152 <<--- setting for phlux For testing purposes try setting UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=24 Set these values in your (DISPLAY) section - adding any if you don't currently have them TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=25600 TextureMaxLoad=30 WideViewAspect=TRUE UseDeviceTextureCache=1 TextureThrash=1 Finally - for .CFG settings - set the following in your (TERRAIN) section TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000 TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=150.000000 TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=1500.000000 TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21 TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8 TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=14 TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1 TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1 TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=40.000000 TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=60.000000 TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=1307992 Now save your .CFG but BEFORE you try to run FS9 I've heard from people that when you exit FS9 writes back to the .CFG file and if it feels numbers are out of whack it resets them to what it feels is the highest value. This is why I have done the following - BTW please back up your files before any of these changes so you can go back to the way you were prior to them. I've saved my config - the one I want to keep as FS9.real Then for the shortcut on my desktop - instead of it just pointing to the FS9.EXE file I've created a batch file on my machine and the shortcut runs that batch file. I've called mine FS9_START.BAT and have it saved in my root FS9 directory - which in my case is C:\FS9 If you are familiar with BATCH files you will know what I am talking about - If not a BATCH file is just a text file with lines of code that you want it to run. So in Notepad create a file that reads similar to below - NOTE I'm using my directories so you will have to substitute in your directories - then save the file in your root FS9 directory - or any place you want to on your drive. The file should look something similar to this: I am using Win 7 so if you are not you will have to change the directory to where ever XP etc saves the .CFG file @echo off c: cd c:\ cd users\(Your user name here)\appdata\roaming\microsoft\fs9 copy /Y fs9.real fs9.cfg cd c:\fs9 start /high fs9.exe Now save that file and use it to start FS9 - the start /high will ensure it starts in high memory and uses as much memory as it wants not that it would hurt to modify your FS9.EXE to force it to use as much memory as it wants and not stick to 2 GB or less. as its a 32bit application. Try that now and let me know how you get along - or if you have questions or issues trying to get the batch file to work for you. Looking forward to hearing from you and if this doesn't fix or at least help your problems we'll try going from there. Thanks Paul. Paul
May 5, 201214 yr Author Paul, Thank you so much for your efforts. Looks like there is some hope on the horizon. I will test your suggestions today and will immediately let everyone know here in the thread. As for the essential addons I use, you will find them listed in my first post. I feel your pain my friend Yes, we are united in pain. I am so concerned about this problem and so tired of it that I even decided to suspend buying two great addons I was long waiting for. New Delhi Indira Ghandi (by ImagineSim) and Polish Airports vol.3 (by Drzewiecki Design). The reason is they are FS9 only...
May 5, 201214 yr Pgaudet, my PC specs are similar to yours and so I want to try your suggestions, but please, what are these entries for: [Quotation] Add these lines to the same section (GRAPHICS) FORCEFULLSCREENVSYNC=1 ForceWindowedVSync=1 HIGHMEMFIX=1 SHADER_CACHE_VERSION=1 STALE_BUFFER_THRESHOLD=2147483647 [end of quotation] and [Quotation] WideViewAspect=TRUE UseDeviceTextureCache=1 TextureThrash=1 [end of quotation] ? Thank you very much for a short explanation. Harald Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
May 5, 201214 yr I spent the majority of the morning playing with my video card settings without much luck. AA and AF are now set at 8X in CCC. I even let FS build me a new cfg, but that just made things worse so I returned to the original I was using (the one that contains the settings I posted earlier). For the record I have a very clean system that is defragged regularly, and I have confirmed both the CPU and GPU are running at the advertised clock speeds...I've attached a pic so you can see what I've been dealing with and how similar it is to Rafal's problem. I haven't had a chance to try your latest suggestions yet Paul, but I will as soon as I can and will report back. May 5, 201214 yr Ok Rafal and Phlux let me know what happens after you have made and tried out the changes. Phlux your pic doesn't look quite as 'bad' as Rafals (no offense :) ) but with your system ti should be at least as clear as mine looks on both of your systems. I'll wait to hear what you guys find out. Thanks. Paul. Paul
May 6, 201214 yr Hi Rafal, It's been an interesting thread and out of curiosity I wanted to see what mine looked like so I took off and flew close to the same area of your first screenshot and this is what I have. I do have UTE installed along with REX overdrive textures. I found the biggest improvement came from adapting Word Not Allowed's Nvidia Inspector settings form his guide to FSX and applying them for fs9. It can be found here: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/370594-read-before-posting-software-hardware-guide-for-fsx Here's part of my fs9.cfg You'll note that I'm only using 1280x1024 as I only have a 19" 4:3 monitor. My system is an I5-2500K stock 8gb ddr3-1600 with a gigabyte 560gtx ti. FS9 is installed on an SSD. May 6, 201214 yr Author HI, Paul! I have just given your post (#16) a close look. See, I already applied all those changes on Friday (#9): OK, Paul, so I have applied all your entries which were different than mine. Unfortunately it is neither better nor worse. The problem must lie somewhere else: As for the differences between my screenshot and that of phlux's, I agree mine looks worse. Blurries are deeper but the most conspicuous difference seems to be the roads. Mine are very jaggy, which lets me think something is wrong with my AA/AF. But, like I mentioned aerlier, I have them set correctly in NVIDIA inspector and AA is OFF in the sim. See one of my earlier posts: As for the jaggy roads there is one more thing coming to my head. Even though I have a new PC and a powerful NVIDIA card, I am generally not satisfied with anti-aliasing in my sim. I wouldn't say it works 100% and I also get some shimmering plus objects like posts or fences tend to look dancing. I have it set up in NVIDIA Inspector just like NIck recommended and OFF in the sim itself.Maybe the problem has something to do with the roads which, all in all, are just lines and curves. Which by the way is looking like this: What is (or rather is NOT) interesting is that I don't get these problems in FSX.
May 6, 201214 yr Hi fellas, just following this thread... mmm, I don't want to seem, well, stating the obvious, and I may be wrong, but from what I can see with all the screenies, they have all been taken with a zoomed view. Is this not the case? I may be wrong, but to me, it's simply a case of zooming in to a point where the area beyond the LOD becomes too magnified. Averyone has that problem, I too have that problem, but if I zoom out to the normal wide view then of course the blurries are in the distant and not an issue. Apologies if this is not the case, but just thought I'd drop in my penny's worth. May 6, 201214 yr Author Hey, Howard! How are you? My screenhots are not zoomed. My spot view is always at normal 1.0 view. Only my VC view (not shown here) is set to about 0.75. Moreover see my blurries often start right below the aircraft. And the damn jaggy 'roads' ###### me off even more.

Don't think I can offer up anything more than you probably know yourself. One thing you could try, and it does seem to have an effect, although at a cost of distance detail... set your filtering in Inspector to application controlled and set FSX Filtering to Anistropic. It seems this has helped a lot of guys with blurries. May 6, 201214 yr If you've tried ALL the settings I have suggested earlier (Did you try the batch file?) - then it must be either some textures you are using or your AA and AF filtering settings for your card. I use an ATI card now and not Nvidia. My Catalyst Control Center settings are: Antialiasing - 4X with Flitering set to Wide-tent Anisotropic Filtering - 16X Catalyst A.I. - set to Standard Mipmap Detail Level - set to Quality Wait for Vertical Refresh - set to On unless application specifies Antialiasing Mode - set to Quality - Super Sample AA Open GL Settings - Triple Buffering - NOT checked. I also notice that in your Nvidia Inspector screen shot that your Anisotropic Filtering Mode is set to user defined/OFF - should it not have something set there and not OFF (since i have an ATI card not I have not used Inspector) Have you tried what MattSC1 suggested which was: Adapting Word Not Allowed's Nvidia Inspector settings form his guide to FSX and applying them for fs9. It can be found here: http://forum.avsim.n...e-guide-for-fsx Paul. Paul
May 6, 201214 yr Author Hi again, Paul! And once again thanks for your commitment. If you've tried ALL the settings I have suggested earlier Yes, I did apply absolutely ALL of them. Did you try the batch file? No, I didn't But I have the 3GB switch applied, so do I need the batch for high mem use? I also notice that in your Nvidia Inspector screen shot that your Anisotropic Filtering Mode is set to user defined/OFF - should it not have something set there and not OFF True. I have followed the famous guru guide by NIck: http://www.simforums...topic36586.html It is set to User defined/OFF because it is user defined below (seen set as 16x). Other options are only: 'Application-controlled' (I don't think we want it) or '0x00000000 (Rage)' <-- I have no idea what it is. Have you tried what MattSC1 suggested which was: Adapting Word Not Allowed's Nvidia Inspector settings form his guide to FSX and applying them for fs9. It can be found here: http://forum.avsim.n...e-guide-for-fsx It is the same as in Nick's settings, so I believe Word Not Allowed adapted them too (or just came to the same conclusions). Of course I won't give up and will investigate further.
May 6, 201214 yr Hi Rafal, Word Not Allowed's settings are pretty similar to Nick N's, however there are a few things that are different from what your Nvidia Inspector settings are. I'm not sure which driver you are using, I'm on 301.24 and use Nvidia inspector version 1.9.6.5 -Under your Anti Aliasing settings, your Anti-Aliasing transparency settings are set to Off/Multisampling. Under Word Not Allowed's guide, he recommends 2x Sparse Grid Super sampling, it works really well for me. 4x Sparse Grid Super sampling gets rid of any shimmers, but you need to test it with your card as it puts a good demand on the Video Card, but looks awesome on my machine -Under the common section: Multi Display/Mixed GPU Acceleration, yours is set to Multi Display Performance Mode. If you are using more than one monitor you're good, if you are a single monitor it should be set to Single Display -The last tweak that is new to me and works pretty well is under the Common Section: vertical Sync. For example if your screen refresh rate is 60hz, under the drop down menu select 1/2 refresh rate and set the in game frame lock to 30. He explains it really well in his guide. Do not use an external frame limiter. Other than the three "new tweaks" they are the same as Nick N's. It's worth a try, you can always put them back. Good Luck Matt
May 7, 201214 yr After spending another afternoon messing with this, I have come to the conclusion that it is what it is. Paul, thank you so much for your suggested tweaks. Unfortunately I tried them all and none of them seemed to help my case much. What did seem to help a bit however were your settings in Catalyst Control Center. Most simmers seem to prefer Nvidia, so information on ATI settings is in short supply. After applying your numbers in CCC I decreased my zoom to less than 1.0 while in spot view after Rockliffe mentioned zoom level in a previous post. From a few of the responses after I posted my screen shot it doesn't sound like I have it "that bad". I'm satisfied with my investigative efforts to make it look as good as it can, so I am now going to lay down the cfg file and the GPU settings and enjoy flying.......meh, I'm sure I'll be back to tweaking one day :Liar: Thank you all for your suggestions and moral support.
