Landing the Maule

Featured Replies

A ton of great information here! I was wondering in the beginning of this post, some people mention flaps at a certain percentage. How do you know how much flaps you're using? I've just been eyeballing it and pressing f5 or f6 in hopes that I have enough flaps for landing. Usually full flaps is too much and little flaps is too little.

In cockpit view, look down and you'll see the controls for flaps and elevator trim. Hover the mouse over them and they'll display the current setting.

There's no place like this place, so this must be the place.

Thanks to both of you. I was so concerned with all the instruments in front of me while I practice ILS landings I totally forgot about the flaps below.

Also do note that there are 2 airspeed scales on the Maule, the outer one is in MPH. If you use that scale as if it were knots, you will drop like a rock on final.

I have to use the HUD, can't see a dang thing on those instruments - I really, really need to get good glasses! Heck of a thing getting older.

Lol, yeah I know - I am holding out for the Track IR support, so I can just lean closer lol!

Man... I hope they get that in soon. It just seems so... 1990's... to be looking around with my fingers!

I agree wholeheartedly, I love Flght but it seems like I am stepping back in time several years, especially cmpared to my other flight sims, all of which have it and some pretty dated.

It would compliment it nicely, really increase the immersion, and make certain things easier and so much more realistic.

And to keep on topic, landing the Maule it would be so nice to be able to just raise up a ilttle to look over the nose, or lean left whilst taxiing. I do that now with the eyepoint movements mapped to a hat switch, but just not the same.

This certainly is a problem for flying actual taildraggers... you have to S-turn while taxiing and landing is a bit more of a chore when that nose starts to block the view of the runway when 3-pointing. Wheel-landings can alleviate part of that problem, but some taildraggers wheel land better than others. With the Maule... I prefer the 3-point landing and getting as much perspective as I can from the left side of the plane... of course "ymmv".
