  1. ahhh! i want but I'd rather upgrade to a more powerful computer before I get that
  2. I was flying around in circles for a good ten minutes before realizing I needed to be closer to the deck. Seeing your icon in the coast guard scheme makes me wish Flight would have more rescue missions available posted in the job board
  3. Thanks to roboray for the help with VOR. I read the tutorials when I had trouble with VOR navigation a few weeks ago. I did smack myself in the head when I figured it all out. I try to use VOR when I do some jobs just for fun and to not forget it.
  4. whats trackIR? do you need special equipment for it? I know people are happy it's not available
  5. same here. I was flying on the pali back and forth and finally asked someone for help because I couldnt find it. It was on john a burns hwy (H3)...well, just waiting for alaska now..
  6. Sounds like fun. It'd be nice to schedule a flight with a few friends to do a low level flight around an island.
  7. My wow moment was flying on k-bay. Having lived there, I flew by my old house and the hangars. I do wish I had a better performing computer to experience the lighting and shading. I hope my next wow moment is hovering in a helicopter or flying a twin engine aircraft
  8. I did my first clandestine mission and i was flying at 1400 ft with no problem. the passenger warned me only once about flying too high. It's probably because I was flying over land (Big Island)and not water
  9. What's this ^Robo? I'm gonna try out that triangulation thing said earlier, however I need to read it 5 more times to understand it completely. Has anyone posted a PDF or something with all runway numbers list, ILS, VOR frequencies so that you don't have to press M to double check?
  10. Thanks to both of you. I was so concerned with all the instruments in front of me while I practice ILS landings I totally forgot about the flaps below.
  11. I think im on the same level of learning as matt_gold here. Learning a whole lot about flying just from this forum.
  12. A ton of great information here! I was wondering in the beginning of this post, some people mention flaps at a certain percentage. How do you know how much flaps you're using? I've just been eyeballing it and pressing f5 or f6 in hopes that I have enough flaps for landing. Usually full flaps is too much and little flaps is too little. On another note, I've noticed the same thing regarding the maule landing air speed (50kt or so) vs the rv, where you nearly are forced to cut the throttle completely in order to land at a reasonable speed. Is it just the fact that in the maule you're carrying a heavy load and its a heavier plane? When I first started flying the maule, I did my best to go by the checklist but always landed short of the runway or just dropped like a rock
  13. I guess that was a dumb question but I've been taught that the there's no such thing as a stupid question. Every time I read a reply to a question, I always have a new question to ask. If I'm trying to do an ILS approach, should I just use the ILS freq or VOR freq as well?
  14. Thanks. I red DME isn't being used in Flight yet, is that true? Or am I a dummy because VOR and DME are the same thing? I noticed when I want to fly to a VOR, I see the distance annotated under the comm2 radio in nautical miles. There is an absurd (yet fascinating) amount of information regarding flying that I didn't know existed and I am a sponge and want to soak it all up.
  15. Thanks! When I set my nav1 radio to the desired freq (i.e. 110.10) I also set the nav2 radio to the same freq? I guess since this is a topic about ILS I have another question. Say Im between Lanai and Maui and want to get on the Maui ILS (I believe its 024 degrees and 115.1??) How do I go about that the correct way? I know I can always cheat and press M but would like to learn the proper way.
