  1. ahhh! i want but I'd rather upgrade to a more powerful computer before I get that
  2. I was flying around in circles for a good ten minutes before realizing I needed to be closer to the deck. Seeing your icon in the coast guard scheme makes me wish Flight would have more rescue missions available posted in the job board
  3. Thanks to roboray for the help with VOR. I read the tutorials when I had trouble with VOR navigation a few weeks ago. I did smack myself in the head when I figured it all out. I try to use VOR when I do some jobs just for fun and to not forget it.
  4. whats trackIR? do you need special equipment for it? I know people are happy it's not available
  5. same here. I was flying on the pali back and forth and finally asked someone for help because I couldnt find it. It was on john a burns hwy (H3)...well, just waiting for alaska now..
  6. Sounds like fun. It'd be nice to schedule a flight with a few friends to do a low level flight around an island.
  7. My wow moment was flying on k-bay. Having lived there, I flew by my old house and the hangars. I do wish I had a better performing computer to experience the lighting and shading. I hope my next wow moment is hovering in a helicopter or flying a twin engine aircraft
  8. I did my first clandestine mission and i was flying at 1400 ft with no problem. the passenger warned me only once about flying too high. It's probably because I was flying over land (Big Island)and not water
  9. What's this ^Robo? I'm gonna try out that triangulation thing said earlier, however I need to read it 5 more times to understand it completely. Has anyone posted a PDF or something with all runway numbers list, ILS, VOR frequencies so that you don't have to press M to double check?
  10. Thanks to both of you. I was so concerned with all the instruments in front of me while I practice ILS landings I totally forgot about the flaps below.
  11. I think im on the same level of learning as matt_gold here. Learning a whole lot about flying just from this forum.
  12. A ton of great information here! I was wondering in the beginning of this post, some people mention flaps at a certain percentage. How do you know how much flaps you're using? I've just been eyeballing it and pressing f5 or f6 in hopes that I have enough flaps for landing. Usually full flaps is too much and little flaps is too little. On another note, I've noticed the same thing regarding the maule landing air speed (50kt or so) vs the rv, where you nearly are forced to cut the throttle completely in order to land at a reasonable speed. Is it just the fact that in the maule you're carrying a heavy load and its a heavier plane? When I first started flying the maule, I did my best to go by the checklist but always landed short of the runway or just dropped like a rock
  13. I guess that was a dumb question but I've been taught that the there's no such thing as a stupid question. Every time I read a reply to a question, I always have a new question to ask. If I'm trying to do an ILS approach, should I just use the ILS freq or VOR freq as well?
  14. Thanks. I red DME isn't being used in Flight yet, is that true? Or am I a dummy because VOR and DME are the same thing? I noticed when I want to fly to a VOR, I see the distance annotated under the comm2 radio in nautical miles. There is an absurd (yet fascinating) amount of information regarding flying that I didn't know existed and I am a sponge and want to soak it all up.
  15. Thanks! When I set my nav1 radio to the desired freq (i.e. 110.10) I also set the nav2 radio to the same freq? I guess since this is a topic about ILS I have another question. Say Im between Lanai and Maui and want to get on the Maui ILS (I believe its 024 degrees and 115.1??) How do I go about that the correct way? I know I can always cheat and press M but would like to learn the proper way.
  16. After reading this thread, I am still a bit confused on VOR2 needle. If its either far left or right, does that mean I need to turn towards it (similar to VOR1needle) or do I need to do something different. I understand, for the most part, how the VOR1 needle works and using VOR and ILS but I am still confused about the VOR2 needle. How does the Nav2 radios come into play? When I tried the rv landing challenge 5, i just strictly use the VOR1 and nav1. (it also helped another flyer was about to take off on that particular runway) I am an enthusiast like AZsoccer but no real flight time or anything and would love to learn much more.
  17. Wow. I am confused now. I remember posting in another topic regarding VOR and such but for ILS, do they always relate to each other or are they two completely different things/topics/matters? I read somewhere else that intercepting a ILS you have to think heading and not left or right. Is that correct? When the word localizer is said, in the RV-6, are they referring to the instrument above the throttle with one vertical line?
  18. Wow, great stuff. Thank you so much for all this info. I am a visual learner so I need to get in Flight and mess around. When first learning about flying using the reciprocal wasnt making sense, because when you want to go somewhere, you would naturally use that heading instead of using the reciprocal so that was really messing me up.
  19. So to my understanding, say I'm in the middle of the Pacifc (no island visible yet) and want to find a VOR assuming I have the frequency already, I'd just tune my nav1 to that freq and then turn my OBS until centered and go from there or am I missing a step? Secondly, I'm also confused when people say the reciprocal of the 090 radial. Does that mean if I'm flying with a heading of 090 I'm on the right track heading to the VOR or am I flying away? I know that the the opposite direction of 090 is 270 so do I need to turn my plane around to 270? Im a beginner to all that is flying and would love to learn all that I can.
  20. Regarding antilag, would it be recommended for computers that don't have the best graphics/CPU to even run Flight? That happens to be the case for me, I don't have the best specs to run this game but I couldn't wait to get a better computer to play it so I downloaded the game anyway.
  21. so much great information! thanks a ton! as a fan of flying, I didn't know much about it until I got Flight. Though I've heard positive as well as negative things about this game, I think this is great for beginner pilots who aspire to earn a pilot's license.
  22. So I am assuming military used airports are blue or are those just major airports among the islands?
  23. thanks for this infomation. having instructions for this aerocache forces me to learn more about flying. So that I can fully understand, a bearing is heading away from a VOR and a radial is heading to a VOR?
  24. Same here. I'm gonna wait a few more days to see if anyone has any good runway list PDFs. If not, I'll probably make one this weekend
