May 16, 201214 yr So I was flying the missed approach for the ILS runway 29 at PAKT, and at first I thought wow, the NGX just enters the holding perfectly, and then it started its outbound leg in and odd heading/track, and the same thing happened on the inbound leg. I thought it might just be the first holding, but it continued that way til I exit the holding! So in short, it flew a perfect holding, but no where near the right holding as published in the procedure or as shown in the CDU on the the Navigation Display!? I've posted a picture to show the odd track :) Anders Weber ATPL(A) Student EKBI - Billund, Denmark
May 16, 201214 yr Author Okay, I've just tried to enter a holding without any missed approach, just enter a simple holding, but the NGX, does weird things as soon as I try to fly a Holding in LNAV. I can't get it to do a normal holding! Anders Weber ATPL(A) Student EKBI - Billund, Denmark
May 16, 201214 yr I don't find charts for ILS 24 at PAKT, only RWY11. If it's that one, you should enter the holding via ANN on Radial 388 (if I understand the US charts correctly). So you need a parallel entry. Did it do that? Even the PMDG 737 for FS9 was able to fly holdings and entries correct so I wonder if it's not you? Bert Van Bulck
May 16, 201214 yr Author Sorry I meant ILS RWY 11 its the holding at ANN, VOR. Anders Weber ATPL(A) Student EKBI - Billund, Denmark
May 16, 201214 yr Never had a problem holding. You absolutely sure it isnt doing what its supposed to? --Peter Fabian
May 17, 201214 yr Author Hi Peter! I am positively sure its not doing as it should. It is like it did another holding pattern with 30° of the one in the navigation display! The current track on the picture is what it flew as the outbound leg instead of the magenta line as in the FMC. It did a perfect direct entry into the holding, and then continued passed the outbound course and flew this "new" not right holding! Anders Weber ATPL(A) Student EKBI - Billund, Denmark
May 17, 201214 yr I've also reported this on this forum, the holding seems to not work properly. I've noticed it has a particularly hard time with parallel entries. There is something definitely wrong with the holding.
May 17, 201214 yr Just tried it: spot on. And indeed I can't read US charts :Phbbbt: Direct entry is required and correctly executed by the NGX. Best Regards, Bert Van Bulck
May 17, 201214 yr Did it fly the hold properly after the entry. Don't confuse the initial entry as the hold. What happened after it came by the holding fix after the initial entry? Brad Rich
May 17, 201214 yr Hey Brad, It followed the holding completely as it should. Some adjustment about the track size it did (sounds like the green fellow from Star Wars...) but that's normal. On the turn towards the inbound leg at litle overshoot but perfectly normal since I flew it faster then what the holding was programmed to. The entry was a direct entry. The plane made a right turn to track 309, the holding became visually bigger (I flew it at 210 kts while it was programmed at 202), flew 1 min outbound, turned and intercepted track 129. I did 3 holdings, no problem what so ever. The holding exit was also correct. I flew this mostly on LNAV and LVL-CHG mode but also LNAV and VNAV were not different. I played with the speeds and everything was as to expect... Best Regards, Bert Van Bulck
May 17, 201214 yr Author Did it fly the hold properly after the entry. Don't confuse the initial entry as the hold. What happened after it came by the holding fix after the initial entry? It flew a Direct holding entry, but instead of following the magenta outbound leg, instead of levelling out it continued the turn passed the outbound leg, and proceeded at a random heading. I just tried in Amsterdam, to program a hold over Schipol VOR, but again there were some problems. The entry was fine, but when I told the plane to exit the hold via the FMC, it did not complete the second turn in the holding, but just flew a random heading again. May 17, 201214 yr I flew the ILS and missed approach procedure. It seemed to work perfectly. Direct entry was good. It got outside the magenta line on the entry but well withing in the protected airspace on the holding side. Not seeing any problems. Brad Rich
May 18, 201214 yr I've noticed that the NGX will fly some strange entries during holding. It finally makes it into holding, but doesn't always fly the expected entry. It's worse than a G3. Rick D http://g5flyer.tumblr.com/
May 18, 201214 yr Author The last couple of days I have tried some different holdings (5 different times), and I have not seen any flown correctly exept a correct direct entry. I love my NGX bit this is really bothering me. Especially when it works for some. Anders Weber ATPL(A) Student EKBI - Billund, Denmark
May 18, 201214 yr FWIW I've never had a problem with entry, the hold itself or exiting the hold. I did a hold over LAM approaching LHR earlier and it was fine in all aspects. Thanks Matthew T Gardiner
