FSX....and back

Featured Replies

FLIGHT solved one of the most irritating bugs in FSX, and one that I encountered replicated in Prepar3d too and was one of the main show stoppers for me regarding that new, apparently rather promissing, but at the time too expensive platform - visibility effects in FOG/HAZE.

This is probably one of the major breakthroughs in FLIGHT, and one that makes quite a difference in terms of realism...

The fog and haze in flight is amazing, but I wonder if it would hold its depiction if real world weather feeds were introduced? For me real world weather is a must, and I hope Flight will introduce it. So far I have not bought into Flight with any of my $$$ anyways, but I have found a use for it on my laptop, it works rather well and it provides pretty good entertainment when I travel and have to stay in hotels, so if Alaska is any good I might just get it, and hopefully a beaver with a cockpit.

You know, I actually prefer selecting from preset weather themes, so long as they offer realistic, plausible conditions for the area.

I don't have a lot of experience with real-world weather (dropping mostly out of sims for several years as that was becoming an option) but I do recall some weird transitions where the weather effects modeled for different areas didn't mesh together well.

I presume it's gotten better, but how well do the current "real weather" solutions combine the data? Especially when a station is reporting incorrect data like radically wrong temps or winds?

Which one of those do you mean by "slaggin it off"?

Well, maybe those words are a bit strong.I was under the assumption that comparing the 2 was a rule breaker. Tom put out quite a strong warning about the two products being discussed.

Well... I don't think those were his exact words, at least not in the sticky-warning. I don't believe his intent was to bar all polite discussion of their relative merits whatsoever, but I'll certainly respect any clarification.

There is an established tendency of any thread that mentions both to wander into the danger-zone, though. So far, I think this one has managed to skirt the edge. Let's just all remain on our best behavior and remember everyone's point of view is as valid as our own.

Real World Weather:

It rains most of the time in Hilo and Hana.

The Islands have their wet and dry sides.

We would be flying most of the time in rain.

Though I would prefer that over Alaska winters.

Bah, if you don't like the rain in Hawaii just wait 5 minutes for it to stop. Then 5 more for it to start again! :LMAO:

But yeah, certain places, it rains all the time. I rarely took the T-tops out of my car on Oahu because I commuted over the H-3 every day... and it's always raining up by the tunnels.

It actually simulates some "hard core" things that FSX does not, such as the effects of terrain on radio propagation (creating VOR dead-zones behind mountains, for instance).

As far as I know, FSX does indeed handle terrain effects of radio propagation. I've flown a lot of low and slow in all kinds of terrain, always using VOR, and I have hit something several times that I thought was mountain shadows. I know for sure that flying higher will give you a longer range to receive the VOR signal. This is without any add-ons that would affect it. I have no idea how accurate these effects are.

My piont is if i go into the flight forum and start slaggin it off...i'd be banned without warning. And my post deleted.

This IS the Flight forum.

Why is thread even still alive though?.. Fairness has to go both ways..My piont is if i go into the flight forum and start slaggin it off...i'd be banned without warning. And my post deleted.

I can only assum that somewhere along the line someone is sat in MS's back pocket. ( but thats a bit ''out there'', i know)

This is indeed the Flight forum. And I think enough has been said already, so this topic is locked.
