FSX....and back

Featured Replies

I loved them all! :LMAO: I have never hated a single flight game in my entire life and can't understand those who do.

Loved the entire FS series, although the version with the plane maker (what was it? FS 4?) was my favorite.

Loved Falcon, the most realistic flight game by far. :LMAO: Just%20Kidding.gif Needed all of three clicks to start the airplane!

Loved Elite, Fly, the FU series, the Propilot series, loved Gilman Louie's Spectrum HoloByte titles a lot! And the Microprose titles, all those combat aircraft. Have never used XPlane, but I have great admiration and respect for Austin who has come so far with such limited resources - long may he live!

6 years ago, I was defending FS X (because I loved it!) against many of those who have recently attacked Flight (and now claim that they will never leave FS X! :LMAO: )

Why hate flight games? They are all good, each in its own way. We should stop hating and start flying! :Peace:

Best regards.

Luis

Well after not touching fsx in months, I thought I would try it out again, and go fly somewhere other than hawaii. Well, I loaded up a free flight in a cessna, and wow!!! I immediatly noticed how unrefined everything looked.(no addons) the scenery and autogen-yikes! And the cockpit lighting-wow! I doubt I will ever use fsx again since I would need lots of addons to bring it anywhere near flight. Also, the performance....yuk. Anyway, I know lots of people hate flight. ( haters gonna hate) ,but I say it's a 100% improvement over fsx in so many ways...just be patient and positive and more will come to flight in time...all in good time.

You are wrong from the moment you start comparing them, since they are pretty different things. As the tittle say FSX is a flight simulator, MS Flight is just a video game.

Pick the one you feel most comfortable with. :Peace:

Actually they are all videogames. These particular videogames we discuss here, simulate flying.

I don't care how serious and complex the sim, at the end of the day, we are playing video games on our computers. Some very complex ones no doubt though.

Don't you have an autoland to go sit back and watch with the rest of the passengers?

Plus, the amount I have learned about navigation via flight is totally insane. Major shout-out to RoboRay, J van E, and my wife's enduring patience for what appears to her to be the dullest looking thing in the universe, a Maule cockpit. I gotta get her flying!!!!

Same here! Love it!

I understand the original poster's position. Happened to me too when FSX came out couldn't go back to FS2004 despite my having invested in addons for it. It's happening again with this MSF, the sloped runways and having to struggle to find the strips is an immersion factor that isn't there in FSX.

Where are these sloped runways in Flight, I have yet to see them?

Thanks

Mauna Kea-Honolii on Hawaii, just west of Hilo is the most extreme example of a sloped strip. There are others, but I can't remember them off the top of my head. A quick check of Hilo 26/08 shows it flat. According to airnav.com there should be a 1% slope, so one end should be about 10' higher than the other. Over 9,800', I wouldn't notice that.

Hawaii island has a couple on the northeast side, and one on the southeast side, as I recall.

Then again, there's no AI in Flight so they could probably model them easily without chucklehead jones smashing into the mountain side with his AI C172

Well as a new user to flight simming ( this is my first) I can`t really comment on what Flight is like compared to others. But what I can say is that I am very impressed with the graphics in Flight, even using it on a three year old laptop. Yes you will have to pay for add ons , but you do the same in most other flight sims/video games (take your pick) . What is great is that I can finally use a fliight sim at all. With FSX etc.. I just would not be able to afford a computer powerful enough to enjoy them properly. I have really enjoyed learning how to navigate using VOR`s , ILS`s etc.. It has not only been a pleasure to use, it`s been an education as well.

So in that respect alone I think the devs of Flight have done a superb job , I just hope we get the opportunity to expand it sooner rather than later. Of course my biggest disappointment , along with everyone else, is the lack of cockpits in the warbirds. But that has been talked about so much I won`t continue here.

If I'm not mistaken most are on the big island.

If you have the Maule, you'll see plenty of them on the landing challenges. There is one challenge were the runway slopes up a hillside and then abruptly drops down the other side. You can't see the whole runway from either end.

A couple of the Stearman landing challenges also use sloped runways.

Yet, none of the main airports appears to have any sort of slope, unless my eyes are not giving their best :-)

Slopped rws are only available on those small airfields.

When you're building a "big" airport, you can afford the heavy earth-moving equipment to smooth things out.

Usually.

There are many many around the World with very noticeable "bumps"... :-)
