June 2, 201214 yr Hi all, I would really appreciate you help here. The rain textures in FSX are really bad. I feel like I should try and replace them? Maybe tweak them in a DXT editor of find some other textures. The dome around the aircraft really is naff. Even if the rain was completely transparent this would be better than these white streaks. And the dome which intersects the wing. I have heard that this problem is caused by the DX10 DX11 upgrades. But in all honesty DX11 is working fine apart from the rain problem. Where are the elements that control the dome and the rain textures themselves kept? Everything is hiddern away in this version of windows 7 and FSX? Maybe a hidden file or something? I really miss the rain drops you used to get on the window. Will this work in FSX too? Also will the latest active sky produce a better rain experience? Many thanks Julian J u l ia n D i a m a n d i s
June 2, 201214 yr I have not tried it myself but this file for FS9 also works in FSX http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=vcrain.zip&CatID=root&Go=Search Switchboard - Track Your Simulator Add-ons - Throttle Quadrant
June 2, 201214 yr Author Funnily enough I downloaded these before. But my question is where are the texture folders for these? Many thanks J u l ia n D i a m a n d i s
June 2, 201214 yr VC rain is not possible in FSX natively. The ONLY way to see it is to use an addon like PMDG JS41 or Lotus L39 Albatross (among others) which use some model & animation trickery within the plane itself to create the effect.

Yes I have the PMDG NGX. My question is if I want to tone down the textures to make them less visible, where are the textures in the FSX folder? J u l ia n D i a m a n d i s
June 2, 201214 yr Moderator fs9 has amazing rain textures on some planes, why can't fsx? The rain effects are rendered differently in FS9 than in FSX, thats why. In FS9 they render as an animation and in FSX rendered from shaders, two totally different situations, thats why some plains in FSX like the ones molleh mentioned have the rain effects built into the vc model and operate as effect animations. June 2, 201214 yr Where are the elements that control the dome and the rain textures themselves kept? On the dx10 rain dome, this should help. http://www.realenvir...an-anyone-help/ You have to edit a fx file. It looks odd when the rain starts some feet away from your plane.

That looks like a great hack. But I must admit I do struggle with finding files on this system. Where is the file Rain40.fx? It's as if files are hidden. I have unchecked the hidden files option in windows 7. Do the makers of this program not want us to find these files? :Phbbbt: Also the other suggestion of disabling the preview in FSX for DXT11 in my case means the VC displays in the PMDG NGX do not show up. So I can't disable the DX preview. Thanks J u l ia n D i a m a n d i s
June 2, 201214 yr Should be in the FSX folder \ShadersHLSL\misc. Make a backup and try you luck. As far as I'm aware, the NGX should work in dx9 and dx10.
June 2, 201214 yr Author Thats the problem. I am in the FSX folder but I can't see this folder? I have SimObjects , controls and substitutions. but not \ShadersHLSL\misc?? Many thanks, J u l ia n D i a m a n d i s
June 2, 201214 yr I think you are looking at the wrong FSX folder. I'm talking about the one where FSX is installed, not the one at appdata\roaming and so on. You know, the folder with 'Addon Scenery' and things.
