OP Have you considered posting this Q in the XP forum? You'd maybe get some more helpful answers there...

No. I think I have all of the answers I need here. I won't really bother with the demo either. I'll give it another two or three years.....

I tried "Flight" and was impressed with the scenery, but got tired of flying in the limited area and playing "games" with a flightsim theme. Then came the cockpitless warplanes (for what reason I don't know) and I lost interest in "Flight". I bought (literally) into their game and some things were different and fun. I then began to look around and bought XPX. I had tried versions 7, 8, and 9 after finding them cheap at Walmart, but the hype told me that things were "much improved". After a long installation and then an equally long "upgrade", I have been "flying" XPX for about 6 weeks now (after waiting about 3-4 minutes each time for it to load) and have finally configured things to the point that I can get around a little, but everything is different from the MSFS programs I have been using for years. I ordered the much acclaimed DC3 and the JRollins CRJ, and they are nice, but the DC3 does not come up to the MAAM R4D that has been available for FSX for years now. The sounds are awful. The default aircraft proceed down the runway with a screeching sound that is supposed to represent what? I think bad wheel bearings. Even with all wind at 0, the handling requires your full attention because you can not trim enough to provide any stability. The scenery away from the airports is ok (and even great at dusk and at night) with some free downloads, but if you like to fly from your home town airport, you can probably forget about any buildings at all. I have fooled around with adding buildings, and, in some ways, that has been an adventure, but have found at least one major airport with the taxiways on the wrong side of the runway. The buildings just don't fit. For the last two days I have been back with FSX and have been having a ball. It's like coming back to a long lost friend. Yes, I will continue to MESS with XPX, but I will FLY with FSX! Save your $80 bucks until the X-Plane people make some real improvements.

Another FSX stock scenery shot as my 747 comes into Kai Tak airport (Hong Kong) displaying near-perfect graphics for hills, fields, trees, cities and even clouds!

Like I said, FSX is a hard act for any other sims to follow..:)
