Hi Mike,I make that claim because of this: there *IS* nothing that hasn't already been disected inside and out when it comes to setting up and tweaking the PC. Hardware is a known quantity. Windows is a known quantity. Drivers are a known quantity for the most part. FS is a known quantity. The developers of all these pieces know more about them than FSGS does, I promise you. The worldwide internet has enough experience with all of the pieces in all there combinations. If you think otherwise, you are sadly mistaken. The information is out there: scattered all over the place. Guarenteed.I see no copyright on "session" content or patent on ideas or indeed, anything else at FSGS's site. Heck, the company hasn't even attempted to patent any "method" they use. If you do see any of this, please point it out.Take care,Elrond

Hi Elrond,it's good to see you too. 'Bollocks' must be one of the most versatile words in the English language - it really befits any occasion. A few years ago, there even was a beer in Britain called 'The Dog's Bollocks' - I leave it up to your imagination what the label looked like ;)...Cheers,Gosta.http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2betateam.jpg

"I think the obvious course of action if one is `massively disturbed` by reading something is to go and find out about it, not perpetuate the myth and the vitriol. No sign of that here, is there?No-one who has not subjected their computers to FSGS examination have any right to criticise what this company does, or whether it is value for money. Seems like YET ANOTHER round of conjecture, anecdote and subliminal slagging, and I really don't understand why the forum moderators tolerate this kind of thing. IT TRULY goes against the spirit of the `community`.In other words, this thread, and the mock concerns, are yet another waste of simmers time and about as useful as rumours of the decline of the FS franchise. If you really want to slag the operation off, try it first, and PROVE to the rest of us that your genius at tweaking extends beyond merely wittering fruitlessly at others expertise. I suggest appointing an independent examiner not linked to either party but with a reputation in the community. Andrew Herd springs to mind. The you self-styled geniuses can prove beyond all doubt that you're not actually talking out of your rectums. Until then your just waiting your time, and ours."Say, Allcott, you're beginning to sound very much like... Simon. :-hmmm Greg

>Hi AllCott.>>No one here has yet said FSGS does not deliver what they>claim. I'd be shocked if they don't!>>This discussion was centered on the ethics of charging for>ignorance, and indicating that the cure for this ignorance>should be kept secret.>>As far as genius, I'm nearly so, and Elrond is. Others can>fend for themselves.>>And as far as wasting time or bandwith, thank you for your>helpful observations. I look forward to your next contribution>to the hobby.>>DickOh you really crack me up, Dick!By your self-imposed mock values, mechanics should not be paid for fixing my car, because they don't do anything I couldn't do for myself, after a period of study and research. My window cleaner will be surprised when he not only doens't get his Christmans tip, he doenst even get recompensed for climbing up ladders in all weathers, simply because it is something I could do for myself. And I'm never paying for a burger ever again! And all this written on a PC utlising an interface that you could easily devise for yourself, but didn't.The nature of most service industries is that they manufacture nothing, they disseminate accumulated wisdo in a form and manner that makes it worthwhile paying for - in this case the FS-GS `solution` gives you that which you didn't have before - a better running system, or NO CHARGE. So why haven't you taken up the challenge of seeing whether your tweaks and tips, acquired freely from all over the web and the world, stands up against a technician offering a service solution that you only pay for is the solution is to your benefit?Everything else is waffle - and I see that already those that have taken advantage of the service have had to put you right on certain points, which undermines the merits of the rest of your argument.Have you contacted FS-GS? Yes or no? If `no`, then we can all draw assumptions as to your motivations.Allcott

>Say, Allcott, you're beginning to sound very much like...>Simon. :-hmmm >>GregWhat?Allcott

Hi Elrond,I agree with your thoughts in this thread. There may be something else other than "proprietary information" (which it isn't, as you correctly say), or the best intentions for FSGS and their business future (whoever they are). Sometimes it's human nature that, if you have to pay for something, then you don't want someone else to get it for free- particularly if you tell them (as you've now provided someone else with something freely that cost you something). Of course, if that was a valid reason, then the free help that you and others provide here that you no doubt learnt at some monetery or time cost- well you might as well ask why you bothered.Bruce.PS. I haven't seen the original thread (yet).

Hi Allcott.Again, I have never stated or indicated FSGS does not deliver what they have stated they will deliver. Nor do I think their fee is absurd. You are missing the point of this thread. I can only asume this is done intentionally, as Erond and I have made the point several times over. If you pay a window washer for his service, then it is because you are lazy, ignorant, have not the time, or have not the capability to do this yourself. I do not criticise you for this... or the window washer. But if the washer claims to have secret knowledge that he will share for a fee, that will allow you to clean your own window, and requests a modest fee and a non-disclosure, and guarantees a very clean window.... ( get off your rear and use some glass cleaner ).As far as my motivations: I support freeware and the free exchange of knowledge concerning the flight simulator series. As far as your motives? I think you've already lost all of your credibility with the readers of this thread.Dick

Guys,I just finished the session with Michael/FS-GS and suffice it to say I am more than impressed. I'm going to take my time in writing a full review of the experience but here's the end result - FS2004, PMDG 737-800 VC/CAB, 100% Ultimate Traffic at KPHX, building storms weather theme, all siders, (yes including weather) to the right, 1280X1024X32, 6X Antialising, 16X Anisotropic Filtering, and this is the best I've ever seen FS run. Ever. It is super smooth - no stutters, no blurred textures, nada and my video card image quality settings are now DOUBLE what they were before. I've been on this forum for years and you all know I wouldn't lie about this - afterall I was skeptical myself going into this. The difference is really really noticable from what it was before.Elrond and rhumbaflappy,I *REALLY* resent your insinuations that anyone who would use the FS-GS service is somehow less of a computer enthusiast or has less knowlege than people such as yourselves. "That's the price for inadequacy, laziness, or ignorance." - that's one of the most BS statements I've ever read on these forums. I've been building my owns systems since the 8th grade, I actually perform computer tech work as a job, and I pride myself on knowing all I can about Windows, my hardware, and the ways to optimize my gaming experiences. With all the years I've spent doing so, there were still MANY things that happened during my session this morning that I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT! I've tried all the tweaks suggested on these forums - almost none of those were actually done today. Did I already know about some of the things that were done? Of course, I'm sure a lot of us do. What made this different was the comprehensive way that each action complements the others in a way that is specifically designed to get FS and other games running as smoothly as possible. This service was NOT a bunch of tweaks from these forums thrown together into one big mess and applied. It is a carefully reasoned out list of steps tailored to MY machine - if any of you were to do the service you might have any number of those steps removed or other ones added. As for the subject of giving away what specific actions took place during the service, again, I'm going to tell you that I believe it would be HIGHLY unethical to do so, especially now upon seeing how impressive the results are. Michael and his partners at FS-GS spent an incredible amount of time coming up with a very organized and custom tailored method for providing this service - for their clients to turn around and post the most important information for free would undermine their entire business. Of course FS-GS doesn't "own" ideas or tweak methods, but they do have an intellectual property right over the service itself and the way they add everything together to create the final result. They developed their system, and as such it is not mine nor anyone else's right to give that system away for free. All I can tell you is that it works and I highly recommend giving it a try.

>But if the washer claims to have secret knowledge that he will>share for a fee, that will allow you to clean your own window,>and requests a modest fee and a non-disclosure, and guarantees>a very clean window.... ( get off your rear and use some glass>cleaner ).I happen to know the very best hting for cleaning glass. It's no secret, but I will share my knowledge with you for a small fee. It's called free enterprise, and if there are people willing to pay for that information rather than seek it out for themselves, then that enterprise will be successful. And deserves to be treated with at least some respect, whereas right from the get-go the thread title made me question the motivations of opeing the thread.>As far as my motivations: I support freeware and the free>exchange of knowledge concerning the flight simulator series.>>As far as your motives? I think you've already lost all of>your credibility with the readers of this thread.>>DickHave you contacted FS-GS? Yes or no? If `no`, then the only motivations in question are yours. If you don't answer, or can only answer `no` then what is the point of this thread? If you admit you don't know what FS-GS do, how are you in any position to judge them or how they pass on information? If they look at this thread and decide that the trouble just isn't worth it, how will YOU have served the community? Why must a company which not only provides a valuable service, but also seems to have a handle on things in a users system that even experts don't have, put up with this kind of heckling?Allcott

And thanks for posting Ryan. It's the only real counter to the accusatory posts of detractors who seem to have the egos put out of joint by any suggestion that someone knows something about Flight Sim or computer systems that they don't.Allcott

Hi Ryan,I don't even know where to begin. Dive in, I guess."I *REALLY* resent your insinuations that anyone who would use the FS-GS service is somehow less of a computer enthusiast or has less knowlege than people such as yourselves."Where *do* you all get these misstatements and confusion from? Talk about taking stuff completely out of context and ignoring other context!Did you not read: "There are many aspects of operating systems, hardware and programming of which I am ignorant... and I have neither the time or inclination to learn everything about my computer system or FS9. In this regard, I'm inadequate, lazy, and ignorant."Wow. You're way off base, Ryan. Not a good way to start.--"This service was NOT a bunch of tweaks from these forums thrown together into one big mess and applied."Who in the world ever said anything like that? Only you. OF COURSE the people at FSGS have done their homework! They wouldn't have much to sell otherwise, would they? And you're calling yourself objective with statements like that?--"Michael and his partners at FS-GS spent an incredible amount of time coming up with a very organized and custom tailored method for providing this service - for their clients to turn around and post the most important information for free would undermine their entire business. Of course FS-GS doesn't "own" ideas or tweak methods"Now THATS the issue right there in a nutshell. FS-GS has a method. FS-GS has a business to sell that method. What FS-GS doesn't have, as you so clearly state, is ownership of the content that the method and business relies upon. That ownership comes from the public domain.Yet, you think its ethical to withhold such "ideas or tweak(s)", even though that content wasn't created by them, isn't owned by them, wasn't derived from them, but *was* researched, organized and well presented by them? You made my case for me. There is absolutely nothing wrong with them providing a service that helps others who don't have the time to do the same research. What there *is* something wrong with is subsequently not sharing anymore the content of the information that was provided by others to begin with. It is exactly the attitude that is the slippery slope which disturbs me.Take care,Elrond

Hi Ryan.Apparently, you also missed a point I was trying to make. Here it is again."This is a hobby, and done for fun. We have a long history of sharing our knowledge and experiences. I feel bad that simmers feel the need to use this consultation at all. I do understand the frustration. The FS series will get MORE complicated in future versions... and tweaking it to the max will become even more obsessive ( and competitive )."The statements I made concerning ignorance and laziness were not meant to shame anyone, but to express, in as blunt a manner as possible, the source of FSGS' income. In fact, I freely admitted my own shortcomings. But I don't need their service. FS9 runs well for me, and if it didn't, I would make it so... or stop using it. I used tweaks discussed at AVSIM to get my sim running well. This is not a race. No one wins or looses based on the FPS counter or the "smoothness" of the sim. If it takes a service like FSGS to allow you to enjoy FS9, then that's between you and FSGS, and no one else's business. But, I still feel bad for the FS community. We shouldn't have to throw more money at FS9 to feel good about the simming experience. We shouldn't feel the need to be better tweaked than the next simmer. We shouldn't need to feel CPU envy... It should be about a guy, and his computer, and his imagination, soaring in flight. Elrond and I think this can be done for free ( other than the cost of FS9, Windows, and the PC ). Apparently, you do not.Dick

Ryan:Congratulations!Elrond and Rhumbaflappy:Amusing thread... The more you type, the more obvious it becomes that you are SCARED TO DEATH of this concept. You're in good company... every time a new idea comes out, there's an esteemed group of people who see their world crumbling before their eyes. What's really so "disturbing" to you is that you're coming face to face with the realization that you DON'T know all there is to know... how sad.
