June 13, 201213 yr I would love to have jetways utilize door 2L when Im at the gate. I don't have any airport add ons so I'll be using default airports and the usual CTRL+J. Would this be something PMDG does on their end? Or is it something we'll have to figure out ourselves? Would any changes affect the which door the jetways go to on the NGX? Obviously if the jetway uses door 1L its not a big deal, I just thought I'd ask. PS, this is meant to be a post that gets a friendly discussion on THIS topic. It seems like every other thing I or others post gets taken out of context... usually in the "you cant expect PMDG to model everything". If you are someone who doesn't care about which door the jetway uses, then don't start bashing the topic etc.Let's not even go there. Does anyone else get frustrated by the "well I only fly from the flight deck, so I dont care about x,y,z" type of comments? I digress. Mitch Brown Private Pilot | Aerospace Engineering Major

I think it has more to do with the length of the T7 and keeping the premium cabin happy and not having 300 people walking through the forward cabin. The doors on the NGX won't change. The MD-11 boards at 2L and the 744 boards at 1L. Kenny Lee"Keep climbing"

June 13, 201213 yr The door the jetway goes to is defined by the aircraft.cfg file. Easy enough for the user to modify if required.
June 13, 201213 yr What about the new Boeing 747 v2? How will we board the second deck? Will the passengers just have to climb the stairs? :P :LMAO: i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB

Is the upper deck first class only? On the A380 as well? I mean, on the A380, it compromises the entire length of the airplane, while on the 747 it's only a little piece of the front. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB

With Delta, it's business class since they don't offer First on international flights. With Lufthansa I think the upper deck is first. You pay thousands of dollars for a premium ticket. With Lufthansa a First Class ticket from ORD-FRA on a 744 will go for about $15,000. I don't know if that's an upper deck seat though. However, a DL 744 upper deck seat from LAX-NRT will be about $5,000 so it depends on the airline. EDIT: Got my airlines mixed up. Lufthansa ticket sold through United. Kenny Lee"Keep climbing"

Depends on who you fly with - however, I know that Virgin Atlantic on a few of their 747's (mainly based out of Gatwick) have premium economy upstairs, which is a it more palatable in cost when compared with the cost of a business/first class ticket. For the record, it's very nice up there and so quiet you can start to really notice the wind noise increasing as the aircraft accelerates above 10000 feet. :) Andy Andy Hedges I7 2700K @ 4.8GHz OC, H100i, 8GB Ram, GTX 670 Proud owner of the PMDG NGX, JS41. 747X and MD-11
June 13, 201213 yr The 747 upper deck door is an emergency exit only while the A380 can board from both levels at once. The 747 upper deck has no meaning as to what class it is it all depends on what seats the airline wants to use up there. Personally if the flight is 8 hours or shorter (such as a pond hop) the first or biz class is not worth it unless you are getting a great deal. Alex Jevdic --- KORD A<380-----Love at first flight
June 13, 201213 yr I don't use the default jetways in FSX. Only AES at EGLL which is my "base". - Luke Pabari
June 13, 201213 yr Thanks Andy and Kenny for the explanation. Luke, do you think that with payware add-ons from FSDT or FlyTampa for example the 747 will be able to have an upper deck jetway? i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
June 14, 201213 yr Author The door the jetway goes to is defined by the aircraft.cfg file. Easy enough for the user to modify if required. Can you explain how exactly to do that? Do you specify it for each aircraft ? Mitch Brown Private Pilot | Aerospace Engineering Major
June 14, 201213 yr Can you explain how exactly to do that? Do you specify it for each aircraft ? You have to do it for each aircraft.cfg file, so basically each aircraft variant. Open the aircraft.cfg file in a text editor (such as notepad) and search for the section beginning: [exits] For the PMDX 747-400 the code looks like this [exits] number_of_exits = 2 exit.0 = 0.4, -31.1147, -9.5702, 1.11891, 0 //openclose rate percent per second, longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet), type (0=Main 1=Cargo 2=Emergency) exit.1 = 0.4, -62.2539, -9.6109, 1.1891, 0 //openclose rate percent per second, longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet), type (0=Main 1=Cargo 2=Emergency) The comments (after //) identify what the various numbers mean. Longitudinal, lateral and vertical offsets are in feet from the 3D model origin for each door or hatch which interacts with the scenery animations. There's also a code number to tell FSX what the door type is. Unless you know the exact measurements of the aircraft and where the model origin is (usually at or just ahead of the nose) making changes is a process of trial and error. Save the original aircraft.cfg file just in case, but it's hard to go wrong.
June 14, 201213 yr If you want to fly upper deck for a lower proce, fly Air France 747-400s. Their upper decks are all economy. However, you have to pay an extra 60 to 70 Euro. You do get some few extra inches of leg room and seat reclining. Returned from LFPG to SBGL this past Sunday like this. Totally worth 60 Euro. Cheers,Victor M. Lima
