Agree with the links. But! They were not having a problem runnung FSX. I would still do what I suggested to see if it fixed your problem. If that did not fix it, then move it back and try something else.

 

I tthink I will have a new computer, or a pine box, long before my SSD dies.

Hey paul, not sure if you meant me or not, but ive got an intel 6850 oc to 3.6, p5n32esli mobo, 8g(4g installed) corsair xms2 800 6400c5 ram, @5-5-5-18 nvidia 8600gts, single card but dual monitors, i am going to be upgrading my rig, as this is now 5 years old, but 1k doesnt come easy when on benefits!

Yeah... pretty low-end, FNoob... I guess the card has only 256MB of video ram? If so I'm not sure it would handle any change from the default BufferPool setup, seeing as how the pools are created in th gpu's memory. I think you need somewhere like a gig or more before you can experiment with the direction to go in.

 

Yup - $1k is up there: Thing is - this is our hobby. we do this day in, day out. My wife wanted a pool a few years back - seven grand - but she uses it all summer while I'm "stuck down here in the basement playing with the sim...". (sigh)

I hear you - all hobbies cost, don't they - my wife tells me "you only live once". I reckon you can get by with a proc - an i5 2500K, Newegg $225, an ASRok Z68 Extreme 3 mobo Newegg - $150, and a GeForce 560Ti - Amazon $250, plus taxes/shipping.. $625, and you'll get some performance that will blow your mind. The SB's will oc like nobody's business, and still keep cool with the stock fan. The Asrok board is ok, and one item a month is not too bad.. Once you've committed, the pain will disappear pretty quickly!

Hi paul, thanks again, yh it only has 256mb, but thats kind of what im going for, my ram im oing for samsung green 12800, which can easily be clocked to 2133/even 2400, and is 20nm profile(whatever that means) so it sits under an nh d-14 cooler, but with the wifes birthday tomorrow and the daughter turning 3 in october, doesnt leave me much hope for a system this year(i guess ill have plenty time for ivy testing to be done), i can still fly md11 with utx, at medium settings and get between 10-20, even though the default 172 doesnt give me much more, and my system is clocked to 3.6 - any higher and its constant bsod's. my board is apparently notorious for having ram compatibility issues, even though (at the time) it was supposed to be one of the best clocking boards.

That was my culprit - all the AFCAD's for every airport in the world, or so it seemed. Deleted those and my problems went away. See http://forum.simflig...pc/#entry442287

As stated before though - even with AI set to 0% there was no noticeable difference.

Doesn't matter. Even with 0% AI, those AFCADs are in your scenery folder, doing their damage.

There's my CFG - had another OOM last night doing a quick hop between EGNX and EGKK - OOM occured somewhere over london - memory usage got to 3.2GB (I thought a 32-bit program could use up to 4? been a while since I looked up the technicals though to be honest.)

Ok I've localized my OOMs to around the london area - I suppose its full of Autogen and I have two UK2000 Xtreme airports and the VFR airfields too....

 

Still I fail to believe that this is causing OOMs - I've sorted the FPS issue by deleting the [JOBSCHEDULER] entry in my FSX CFG -

 

Certainly my system should be able to handle this scenery. Other people I know for sure can and have no issues flying quality payware aircraft. I'm testing using the Eaglesoft Citation 2.0 at the moment and its driving me batty!!!!

James - I believe this issue might be as a result of the way in which FSX behaves when in the vicinity of the prime meridian: i.e. 0 degrees, so Petaeus may have a point. Stevejp has done some research here:

the slow down has nothing to do with the London scenery, it’s fsx implementing traffic for the next three squares located 2 degrees west. That includes Southampton, Birmingham and some other midland airports.

He's a new firefighter in the FSX world - something like Bojote was three years ago, but doing wonders in making DX10 Preview work! His Avsim post is here.

Could someone tell me what AFCAD's are? If I delete them will all my traffic stop working?

Also I've tried searching my C drive for *.afcad and can't find anything, so unfortunately sounds like thats not my problem :|

OK - Have looked at your config, and there are a few changes that you should try: Just copy your existing cfg. (rt-clk - copy/paste in the same folder - it will automatically rename it) then add or change what I have below. Your traffic is a serious killer. All else in the cfg looks ok, but try limiting to 30fps, and when doing that, you should reduce your reduce your TextureMaxLoad to 6. Try it.
