June 18, 201214 yr Pretty subjective, as everyone has a different combination or version of hardware, software, running software, stopped and running services + settings of CCC or of Inspector - and then there's the settings inside FSX and the addon mods that make up the cfg.., so I can only give you my pc and how I run FSX: Windows 7 Pro, SP1, Auto Update, with patch approval: system as below, 4.9 gig, 8 gig ram, CL8/1600. GTX580 stock: TripleHead2Go 3840 x 1024. Controls all homemade through FSUIPC except yoke X & Y. C:is 200 gig WD SATA w/75.6 gig free: just the OS w/100MB PagingFile: E: is 1TB SATA 470gig free: contains all apps, a 12gig PF, all downloads, textures, RC4, tools, pics, music, licensing, etc.. F:\ is a faster 500gig SATA, containing FSX only: 372 gig free. I start FSX by launching a small bat file which enables or disable EZCA, then launching Ken Salter's Alacrity, closing down unnecessary services and other processes, doing a memory defrag, and then launching TrackIR. Once TIR is up and paused I launch a second bat file (converted to an an exe) menu, which copies an fsx.cfg file configured to match the menu: i.e. 1). a single, piston, vfr, DX9 flight, or 2). the same flight, but DX10: or 3) and 4). - the same flight but altered for solid IFR, ceiling 400 - 1000 ft, DX9 and 10. The last items are Helis, the Maddog and the FSX original default cfg. The DX10 items are upermost at this moment because of Steve**'s fixing of DX10 runway flashing in a parallel thread here on Avsim. The vfrdx10 cfg is here, the Inspector cfg is here, and the 4.9 settings are here. The TIR-EZCA bat file is here. So, to answer your original question - she's locked at 30, and, when watching the % framerate variance - it is almost always 30 or 3% less basically - 30 to 29.9. Yours ought to be at least 27 - 30 with those same settings with your hardware. With AG, SC and traffic wound back a notch or so - she should hold 30 pretty solid in the KORS/PNW area. I have to say - at 1500 over KSEA with the new DX10 mods mine will hold 30 consistently smooth frames with excellent detail, flying Milviz's new Baron. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.

So where is the best place to start with respects to getting the right performance. There are so many different tweaks and settings out there from so many people its rather confusing! I've been a Sys Admin within the IT industry for nearly 10 years now but somehow the most confusing to me is FSX with its myriad of different settings and tweaks! haha Thanks, James James W
June 18, 201214 yr Haha.. .Nothing like a Sun/Oracle M5000 and a big SAN, though, is it!!! 10 years as a SysAdmin ain't enough!! Well - a clean cfg with the music playing, I suppose, James.., then kill the music and that flying birdcage, set the sliders at about 3/4 with no traffic, Trilinear, let CCC work the AA, setup a decent default flight at your favourite airfield, save it and quit. Then add the: [Graphics] HIGHMEMFIX=1 // must [Main] FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.1 // could be higher - but under .2 [Display] WideViewAspect=True // if necessary Pools - later.. Get it flying - there are not so many tweaks needed above 4.5: Your fps should already be higher with your system and settings. I think cleaning the pc before startup is essential, but you know how to setup a pc for sure: I don't think it's FSX, though, but possibly bad memory, bad ram socket/pins, or some other area. 17 fps is definitely not normal. Let's see your cfg. No doubt others will pipe in here, (I hope) with other ideas. You might also look at Nick Needham's threads: has a very good FSX background - http://www.simforums...gy_forum29.html and will give good - albeit (I feel) sometimes a bit dated advice on the whole pc setup. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
June 18, 201214 yr Jim, Here is more about this FSUIPC4 OOM warning feature: http://forum.simflight.com/topic/71348-oom-warning-given-by-fsuipc/ The version I have hasn't documented this feature, so I need to download a later version of FSUIPC4 to see if it is documented there. Bill Clark I did misunderstand. Thanks! I wasn't aware of that feature in the FSUIPC. June 18, 201214 yr Author Thanks Paul - I'll run Memtest for a bit tonight just to be sure and post my cfg James W
June 18, 201214 yr Here is more about this FSUIPC4 OOM warning feature Thanks Bill for that. I learn something everyday. Guess I should read the FSUIPC manual.... I bought the dll when Pete fixed the g3d.dll CTD for all of us. Best regards, Jim
June 18, 201214 yr James The FIRST thing I would do is set "System Managed" on the C: drive. You are losing a big advantage of the SSD. The SECOND thing is follow Paul's advice. Dave
June 19, 201214 yr I would like to apologise to everyone for the language that I used in the post that Stephen has deleted. It was not my intention to cause offence to anyone in particular, but I appreciate that it was not warranted, and that I could have delivered my message in a more mature manner. It will not happen again. Sorry, guys. Please note that the original comment was not directed at anyone on this thread, or at AVSIM. It was supposed to be a reaction to the general opinion of the flightsim community as a whole. June 19, 201214 yr Author Dave, I wouldn't ever want to do that! Due to the nature of an SSD, having the page file on it will kill it quicker than anything. Plus I'm still on the bench that a system managed (in my case it'd be around 16GB) page file is far too much and in fact inefficient if you have plenty of memory. See this link - http://lifehacker.com/5802838/how-to-maximize-the-life-of-your-ssd Back in the old days of 64MB of RAM then sure a large page file was indeed necessary but in the age of 4GB+ ram its becoming more and more unneeded! June 19, 201214 yr can i butt in and add to this? i dont see where my bufferpools gets added, do i have to actually make the [bufferpool] section up? r4gards Hi FNoob: You need to add it manually, as Julian posted above. I left it out because he needs to get the system running at a modest speed - say 25fps without BP. This should be achievable as long as he doesn't have a hardware problem, and, since tuning BP is a long process - I recommended doing it when James was satisfied with the overall 'normal' performance, hence my note at the bottom of post #34's short recommendations. A BP equal to zero should be set only when a balance of proc speed is equal or less than GPU speed. If the GPU is slower then BP should equal '1', with a PoolSize and a RejectThreshold set . This involves a fair amount of frustrating work, that James doesn't need at this point. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
June 19, 201214 yr My sincere apologies, i didnt realise there were 2 pages to this post, i'll re-read again, although for me, i havent seen much/if any improvement following kostas guide, - i know every one else has. lol im assuming its either usepools=0 or poolsize=0 under bp other tweaks ive done is highmemfix, the vsync windowed mode, the aero part got me though, and the nvidia setings, other tweaks didnt seem to work at all. regards Paul Westcott
June 19, 201214 yr Yeah - there's a lot of reading needed, and then evaluating your system - then applying the right tweaks!
